Work Text:
Purchasing that star projector off of Akuzon a couple of days ago had been kind of on a melancholic whim. You had been missing home a to recently, and you thought that seeing some stars, even if they were fake, might help you. Not to mention, there was also a very handsome demon boy who also happened to love the stars that you were hoping may join you.
With that in mind, you pop open your DDD and start to text Belphie. Hopefully he’s awake right now, or else this may have to wait for another night. “Hey, wanna see some stars with me?” you type out, hoping for a reply. You see the bubble signifying him typing out a response pop up. You shouldn’t be too surprised, whenever it comes to the night sky or you, Belphie is there in an instant.
“You do know we don’t have stars down here right? Or are you that sleep deprived that you forgot? Maybe you should get some rest,” reads out his reply. You simply type out a reply telling him to come to your room, knowing he’ll show up at least from curiosity, or maybe concern for your sleep schedule.Within a minute you heard soft knocking on your door. You opened it to see a sleepy Belphie with a pillow in his arms. “You need a sleeping buddy?” he asks.
“I wasn’t kidding about stargazing,” you say, holding up the little star projector. Belphie eyebrows rise, and you see excitement spark up in his eyes. You grin widely and lead him to your bed, then begin setting up the projector while he gets comfy.
“I didn’t know you liked the stars this much, I thought you were just humoring me when you accompany me to the atrium,” Belphie said after you stood up from prepping the the projector. You smiled at him and then flipped off the room lights, flipped on the projector, then crawled into the bed beside him. You watched as the stars slowly swirled and danced across the ceiling of your room. After a few minutes, you turn your head to look at Belphie. “I do genuinely love the stars too, and even if it were just to humor you, I do cherish my time with you too,” you say to him. You’re not used to feeling so bold with your words, but right now things feel so comfortable that you don’t feel so weird saying them.
Turning your gaze back to the whirl of constellations, you continue.“Back home, my grandfather and I used to camp out in his backyard in the summers. He would teach me how to find constellations and their names. Sometimes, he’d even tell me the tales behind them too, if he knew it. The stars hold a lot of stories, it’s comforting to know that the sky isn’t just filled with empty space.” As you finish, you feel Belphie take your hand in his. You look over and see him looking at you, a small smile warming his face.
“Could you tell me those stories?” he asks. You know he already knows some of them at least, he’s talked about them before, but you decide to indulge him. You know he just wants to see you happy and hear your voice. So you start pointing at constellations as they fly across your ceiling and telling the tales and where they originated from to him. After a few stories, you feel him shift and his breathing even out. Looks like he finally fell asleep. You yourself have to admit you’ve been feeling a bit sleepy yourself, so you curl a little closer to him and close your eyes too. You don’t even realize your hands are still entwined together until just before you fall asleep, protected by the veil of drifting artificial celestial bodies above you.
The next morning, you both had ended up sleeping in, and when neither of you showed up to breakfast, Satan was sent to check on you. Opening your bedroom door after a few soft knocks, he sees you both still fast asleep, curled into one another and holding hands still. The swirling stars and their stories still making patterns across your ceiling answer any questions the others may have had. He just smiles and quietly shuts the door, deciding one day off of school won’t hurt you, and surely the others will understand as well.
