Work Text:
To Lumine, Amber was just like her vision, a fire. She was passion, enthusiasm, energy, and warmth all in one beautiful package. Her passion for her job as an Outrider shined in her eyes as she talked about the work she did. Pride practically oozing out of her as she mentioned helping this person or that person. It never failed to take Lumine’s breath away with just how excited Amber was to talk about the Knights and the work they did.
It also certainly never failed to endear Amber to herself even more than she already had.
However, Amber wasn’t just passionate about her work, she was pure passion in practically everything she did from attempting to cook a steak to perfection, and usually failing, to the simple act of having a conversation; Amber seemed to give her all to everything she did, easily filling in the silence when Lumine had nothing to say.
The energy that Amber had was apparent from the very beginning, right from the get-go when Lumine met her, the girl was practically bursting at the seams with it.
However, more than anything else Lumine associated Amber with warmth.
Not warmth in the sense of temperature, although due in large part because of her vision Amber was much warmer than practically everyone Lumine had ever met. No, warmth in the sense of contentment that Lumine felt whenever she was around the girl. Warmth in the fact that Lumine could always count on feeling cozy, of feeling happy in some sense or another when Amber was near her.
To Lumine who had met thousands of people on her travels between worlds this feeling of warmth, although strikingly similar to the way being around her brother felt, was markedly different in key ways than anything she had ever felt before. It was a feeling that Lumine craved, so much so that she sought out Amber at almost every opportunity she had.
This feeling, so new and so beautiful, something that Lumine treasured above almost all else. This warmth that had nestled itself so deep within her heart that it felt it would never in her entire life ever leave her body, not that Lumine would ever want it to. Quite the opposite in fact, it was something Lumine wanted to feel everyday for the rest of her life.
This feeling of warmth is what brought her back to Mondstadt, whenever her travels allowed her to come back, and if anyone ever asked Lumine to describe out loud this feeling, Lumine would liken it to home.
To Amber, Lumine was like that of a soft breeze. She was there somedays and then some not, sometimes she would liven up to a whirlwind of personality and other times you would barely be able to tell she was there; this was apparent to Amber from the very first meeting she had with the other girl.
As Amber got to know her better the comparison became more and more apt, from the way that Lumine would run around like the wind itself, never really staying in one place for more than a couple of hours and then moving on to something else, to the way that whenever she would enter a battle she would change into a hurricane of a fighter, moving and flitting about the battlefield with a speed nigh unheard of and then calm down to a gentle gust after the combat was over.
However, above all else to Amber, Lumine was comfort.
She was the kind of comfort that you felt when a light gust of wind slowly rustled your hair. The kind of comfort you feel when lying on a hill while the wind blows the grass around you and the sun bears down on you warming up your body. She was the kind of comfort that made everything seem right, that made you happy to just drown yourself in it.
It was this kind of comfort that made Amber fall in love, it was this comfort that brought her back every time to search and find Lumine, to talk with her for as long as she possibly could. She would use every trick she had to prolong a conversation just so she could see her face for longer.
For Amber, this feeling of comfort, of safety, of feeling so happy just being around somebody was something she adored, something she wanted to feel as much as possible, which just played into her need to talk to Lumine whenever she possibly could.
And if anyone were to ask Amber to vocally describe this feeling, she would liken it to the feeling she gets whenever she comes back to Mondstadt after clearing out Hillichurl camps, she would liken it to the feeling of coming back home.
