Work Text:
Heather pulled the covers up over her head, groaning.
She didn’t want to wake up. She didn’t want to go to work. She wanted to stay here where it was warm and cozy.
Sunlight poured in through the curtains, reminding her that she would need to get up for work soon. Ugh, capitalism, making her get out of bed before noon.
She heard Valencia roll over and grab onto her waist.
"Morning, Sunshine," she greeted.
“Don’t go. Stay here with me,” Valencia mumbled, burying her face into Heather’s hair as she spooned her. Heather smiled and carefully rolled so that she was facing Valencia. She hugged her back, holding her to her chest gently.
Heather combed her hand through Valencia's hair. It was tousled from sleep but as soft as ever.
“I don’t wanna leave you either, baby.” Heather laid a kiss on top of Valencia’s head. Valencia snuggled in closer.
“Then don’t.” Valencia was persistent. She hated being all alone in the large house when she didn’t have any gigs booked and Heather was working. Heather let out a small laugh.
“Okay, I’ll stay here with you for ten more minutes, then I need to get ready.” Heather wrapped her arms around Valencia’s midriff and rolled her over so she was laying on top of Heather, her head resting on her chest.
“Twenty.” Valencia tightened her grip around Heather.
“Then I won’t have time to get ready.” Heather cradled Valencia, holding her close. She never wanted to let this girl go.
“Just don’t wear makeup,” Valencia argued back. What she was saying was insane, she almost always wore makeup, but for Heather, she was willing to be a hypocrite.
“You’re one to talk,” Heather snorted.
Valencia buried her face back into Heather, ignoring the younger girl.
“C’mere.” Heather rolled over, picked Valencia up, and finally got out of bed. She carried Valencia downstairs and into the kitchen.
Valencia liked being the smaller one. She always had hated being small until she met Heather. She was small enough that Heather’s hoodies were oversized on her and perfectly comfy. Heather could carry her easily too.
Heather opened the fridge and grabbed a Tupperware box of leftovers.
“Fruit salad? Is that really breakfast?” Valencia looked at the blue box Heather held. She and Rebecca had made it for game night a week ago, and somehow the fruit was still good. They had mixed in chocolate chips and powdered sugar to make it extra sweet. It wasn’t something healthy to eat for breakfast.
“Sure, why not? Anything for you, sunshine,” Heather smiled at her and Valencia smiled back. She loved Heather’s pet names, she really did. Her heart always sped up ten times as fast when Heather referred to her as “princess” or “sunshine”. Seeing Heather being gentle and soft and comfortable with her was her favorite thing in the world. She loved the version of herself that Heather only let her see.
They walked back upstairs to their shared bedroom.
Heather tossed Valencia down into the unmade covers, the smaller girl breaking out in giggles.
They ate their breakfast in comfortable silence, forgoing separate bowls and instead just sharing the tub. Valencia reached over and locked her fingers in with Heather’s free hand. She hummed happily. Mornings like these were her favorite. She moved over to press into Heather's side. She rested her head on Heather’s shoulder.
“I love you,” Valencia muttered, pressing a kiss to Heather’s temple.
“I love you too, babe,” Heather responded, wrapping an arm around Valencia and kissing the tip of her nose before giving her a small peck on the cheek.
Valencia smiled, falling backwards onto her back, the sheets getting tangled with her legs. Heather reached for her fuzzy blanket, draping it over Valencia.
“Okay-, princess, I need- to go get- ready,” Heather told her between soft kisses.
“No.” Valencia grabbed Heather’s wrists and held her in place.
“We can cuddle tonight, it’s Friday. You get me all weekend. But right now I need to go to work.” Heather laid one more kiss on Valencia’s lips before she climbed out of bed and left to go get ready. Valencia sat there, sulking. She hated when Heather left her, even if it was for something mandatory like her job. She wanted to be selfish and keep her all to herself.
But oh well. Heather was right, it was a Friday and she would get to have her all weekend. For now though, she’d just have to sit on the bed and finish the overly sweet fruit salad.
Valencia hugged her teddy bear to her chest, the one Heather had won for her at the state fair. It reminded her of Heather and she was already missing her, even if she was just in the bathroom brushing her teeth.
When Heather came back out of the bathroom, she was dressed with makeup on and her hair sort of tamed. She pulled off the messy look. Which was good considering she loved to lay in bed with her favorite girl until the very last second.
She sat down next to Valencia on the bed. She ran a hand through Valencia’s bed head.
“If you really don’t want me to go I won’t. I’ll stay here with you if something’s wrong, baby.” Heather was always so sweet it made Valencia’s heart swell up. God she was so weak for her.
“No, go. You have to work. I’m okay, really. Just have a good day.” Valencia smiled at her and Heather smiled back. They exchanged one more kiss before Valencia let Heather go.
Valencia sunk back into the bed, reaching for her phone. Heather made her happy like nobody ever had, not Josh, not even Father Brah. And somehow she had her all to herself. She got to love her and cherish her and be happy with her like nobody else did.
Her phone buzzed. A text from Heather. Valencia’s eyebrows furrowed.
Heather 🌈 🥰 💜: Have a good day, sunshine. Short shift today, see you tonight ;)
Valencia giggled, giddy like a dumb schoolgirl.
Yeah, she was pretty damn lucky
