A Hard Day's Night

Summary:

A look into Bakugou's life after coming home from a 20 hour shift.

Notes:

Here, have some soft Bakugou. I hope you all enjoy!

Work Text:

Bakugou let out a disgruntled sigh. He leaned back in his chair, raising his arms high to stretch his back muscles. He brought them down with another long sigh.

He looked over to his phone, touching the button to turn it on and seeing the time. 6:36 am.

"Damn it."

He had 24 more minutes to go until he could call it night...or day? Whatever. He was too tired to correct himself.

He unlocked his phone, opening his messages and tapped on the first name on his list of conversations. The latest message had been 7 hours ago.

Warmth welled up in his chest. It didn't matter if it was said through text or in person, as long as it was you delivering that sentiment. He quickly began typing back. You were most likely already awake and making breakfast for yourself and your son. He only waited a few seconds before your reply came back.

He looked up as the door to his office opened up. Kirishima poked his head in, his eyes just as tired as Bakugou's probably were, but his smile just as bright as always. He pointed out to the hallway with his thumb, "Hey man, morning shift is starting to trickle in. We should get ready for the hand off."

Bakugou nodded and stood, heading over to the door, swiping up the reports he had already prepared as soon as the team had come back from an emergency mission. Thankfully, hand offs usually ran smoothly. It was rare when he'd have to be called in after finishing a 20 hour shift. It'd have to take a huge disaster to have him called in so soon.

He and Kirishima headed to the open office space where many of the newer employees were situated. A few other of Bakugou's sidekicks that had helped with this mission stood at his side. The morning shift stood opposite of them, neatly lined up at the sight of their boss. Kirishima and he quickly gave the run down of everything that happened the day before and throughout the night. Kirishima handed out a few files to some of the others that would be tasked with filing the documents. Within a few more minutes the two groups were done with the hand off. The morning shift saluted them, scattering to their assigned desks and tasks.

Kirishima let out a long exasperated sigh, "Phew. Man, I'm beat! Let's get outta here."

The two heroes went back to their respective offices to gather their belongings before meeting back up in the lobby. Both of them walked outside of their agency building. Kirishima let out a yawn as they walked out of the double doors, "You gonna take the train?"

Bakugou looked at his phone before answering, "Nah. Too tired to deal with the morning rush. Takin' a taxi."

The red-head scratched his head, "Ugh, I totally forgot about morning rush. Maybe I should take one too."

"Well, you're not taking it with me, stupid hair."

"Haha! Come on Bakubro!"

"Get off of me!"

Katsuki closed the door to the taxi after paying the driver. He looked up to his home. It was a modest house, nothing as big as the one he'd grown up in, but it was comfortable and one he and you had decided on and lived in for about 7 years now.

He walked passed the gate and opened the front door.

"I'm home," he said quietly.

"Welcome home Papa!"

The pattering of little feet followed the high-pitched greeting. Katsuki quickly bent down to catch his son as he threw himself off the step of the genkan entrance.

The boy's arms wrapped around his father's neck as he squeezed tight, face nuzzling into his neck, before showing him the radiant smile on his face, "Papa!"

Katsuki couldn't help the small gentle smile that formed on his usually angry face as he shifted his son so that he could hold him with one arm and use his other to remove his shoes at the entrance, "Hey kiddo."

"Welcome back, Katsuki."

He lifted his head up to you. Standing there, with a smile on your face, you looked on warmly as your husband held your son in his arms. He walked over to you, and quickly dipped his head to place a peck on your lips, as he whispered, "I'm back."

You placed a hand on his cheek, caressing it gently, before kissing him back and moving to the kitchen, "Wash up before you sit down, breakfast is almost done. You too, Natsuki."

Katsuki nodded and looked down at his son who stared up at him with eyes that shined bright crimson like his, "Come on squirt."

He set down the boy, taking hold of his hand, and they both walked to the bathroom.

You focused your attention back to plating the dishes and setting them on the table. You turned your head up to the sound of your son's energetic voice.

"A-and then, I tol' Kaori to not go too far, cuz she maybe get hurt if she falled!"

You bit your lip to hold back your giggle. Natsuki had been so proud of his deed from yesterday at daycare. He had gotten a "Hero of the Day" sticker from his teachers for keeping his classmates safe, and he hadn't stopped wearing the star-shaped sticker, proudly tacked onto his shirt today.

Your husband placed a hand on his son's head, mussing up his already messy spikes, a grin on his face, "You stopped your friend from possibly getting hurt, huh? Already on your way to being a top hero, right squirt?"

The young boy's eyes lit up, cheeks flushing at his father's praise, before he smooshed his face into his father's pant leg. You melted at Natsuki's reaction, "Aww, baby."

You walked over to him, kneeling down and taking him into your arms. You cradled him up into your arms, rubbing his back and kissing his temple, "Don't be embarrassed sweetie."

Katsuki moved over to his seat at the table, turning away to cover his own softened expression at his son's action. The kid was pretty damn adorable, which of course was to be expected, especially since he got that trait from you. He quickly dug into his breakfast as you seated Natsuki next to him; the boy's face still burning.

The three of you ate with most of the conversation coming from Natsuki as his father inquired more about his day at daycare yesterday. Soon the plates were taken and being washed by your husband while you were upstairs in Natsuki's bedroom, putting together an overnight bag. Natsuki himself was jumping around the room, excitement radiating from the child, "Mama, can I take Red Riot?"

"Sure baby. Just don't forget him over there. You forgot your Deku action figure last time."

He nodded eagerly, "I won't forget this time Mama! I promise!"

You continued getting together his items into the bag. Katsuki looked into the room, leaning his body onto the door frame, “Are they gonna be keeping him all of tomorrow too?”

You turned your eyes to him for a moment before continuing but responding, “Only up to midday tomorrow.”

Natsuki bounded over to his father, “Gramma said that we were gon’ go to the a-agu...arquemium.”

His father’s large hands ruffled his hair. “Aquarium,” he gently corrected.

The boy grinned, “Yeah, the arquemium!”

You giggled at his mispronunciation, lifting up the bag and walking over to Katsuki, “I was going to ask if you wanted to come along but you’re probably still pretty tired, right?”

”Yeah, sorry,” he muttered softly. You shook your head, brushing off his apology, “No, babe. No need to apologize. Go to bed, I’ll see you when I get back.”

Natsuki’s crimson eyes looked up to his father worriedly. He softly tugged at his pant leg. When his father looked down at him, he lifted his arms up to him, the universal sign of “pick me up”. Katsuki didn’t question it and took him into his arms only to be surprised by the small hand that pet his head and the sweet words from the boy, “Sleep, papa. You did good.”

What did he do to deserve this kid? That was all Katsuki could think as he shut his eyes and touched his forehead to the boy’s.

”Thanks, kiddo.”

He said it so softly, you almost didn’t catch it. You hadn’t known it was possible to fall deeper into love with your husband nor your child but it happened at that moment.

With Natuski still in his arms, both you and Katsuki walked down to the front door. Your husband handed off the boy to you as you gave him a quick kiss goodbye. Natsuki waved to his father as you strapped him into the backseat of your car. And soon, the both of you were off to Mitsuki and Masaru’s home.

"That damn idiot son. Doesn't even take a moment to say hello to his parents," Mitsuki muttered, annoyed.

Masaru gave her a wry smile, bringing his arm to her opposite shoulder and holding her in a side hug, "Now, now dear. He's a busy man. You know that."

You bowed you head apologetically to your mother-in-law, "I'm sorry, Mitsuki. I'm the one who told him to stay behind and rest. He worked a 20 hour shift due to an emergency."

Mitsuki gave you an embarrassed chuckle as she waved away your apology, "Oh, no, it's not your fault at all sweetie! I didn't mean it like that."

"Papa was really tired Gramma! So I tol' him to go sleep," came the voice of Natsuki, who was tugging at the pant leg of his grandfather. Masaru smiled down at the small boy and lifted him up to his arms. Mitsuki looked over at Natsuki and sent him a gentle smile, her eyes softening before patting his head, "I see. Thanks for looking after him Natsu."

The boy grinned widely and saluted his grandmother.

You chuckled before lifting up the overnight bag you had packed, "Well, here's all of Natsuki's things. I hope I didn't forget anything."

Mitsuki took hold of the strap of the bag, "That's okay, we do have a few of his things here anyway in case there is something missing."

You nodded and stepped up to Natsuki still held firmly in Masaru's arms.

"Okay Natsu. Be good for grandma and grandpa okay?"

You gave him a quick peck on the cheek and he reciprocated the gesture, bringing his tiny arms up for a quick hug around your neck, "I will mama!"

You went in and gave a hug to Masaru and to Mitsuki before you headed out the front door; Mitsuki seeing you out to your car, "We'll call you if anything comes up."

"Thanks. Oh and send some photos of your trip to the aquarium!"

Your mother-in-law grinned, "I'm gonna flood your messages with them!"

You just laughed and entered the car. With a quick wave to her, you headed back home.

Arriving back at your house, you carefully closed the front door. Quietly you whispered, "I'm home," so as not to wake your husband in the event that he decided to sleep on the couch. You toed off your shoes, placing your car keys in the entrance bowl. As you turned the corner, you dipped your head into the living room to see if Katsuki was on the couch. Seeing that it was empty, you made your way up the stairs, being as quiet as you possibly could. The door to your shared bedroom was half-way open. Peeking in, you saw your husband laying on his side, facing the middle of the bed. You walked into the room, seeing his relaxed face made you reflexively smile as you shed the thin cardigan you had on. Slowly, you placed it back onto it's hanger in the closet before climbing into bed.

The movement caused Katsuki to breathe in deeply, his eyes blinking lazily, not yet fully open. "Sorry," you whispered soothingly to him, "Go back to sleep babe."

He groaned a bit before relaxing a little at your voice. He lifted his arm in a clear sign of him inviting you into his space. You could feel your cheeks heat up a bit. Your husband was so cute sometimes.

You quickly turned your back to him and slid yourself back until you were pressed up against his chest. His arm came back down around your waist, his hand finding it's place against your stomach where he began to gently stroke small circles on with his thumb.

"How are they?" Katsuki's gravelly tone asked.

"They're doing great. They miss you, though."

You felt him let out a 'hmph' of acknowledgment. You closed your eyes, your hand finding Katsuki's and intertwining with it, "Mitsuki didn't say it out loud, but she's worried about you."

He let out a long sigh, "She doesn't have to. I'm friggin' awesome."

You giggled, "I know that babe. But she's still your mom. Of course she's gonna worry. If you get a bit of extra time off work, you should drop by sometime. Tell her how you're doing face-to-face. Both she and your dad would appreciate it."

He didn't say anything for a while before dipping his head down a bit to kiss the crown of your head, "Yeah, whatever. Now, just keep quiet, I wanna sleep some more."

You couldn't help but laugh softly before snuggling back into him a bit more, his arm tightening it's hold around you, his hand remaining in yours, as you both drifted off to the sound of each other's breathing.
