Reflection.

Summary:

Thin Man isn't human anymore, not psychically
But
He has one human trait left, compassion
He wants the children of The Pale City to be safe
He wants Six to be safe.

Work Text:

And then you wake up
You feel damp grass against your face

You don’t know this yet, but this is not the first time you’ve been in this situation.
You will continue to wake up like this, what was before only seeming to be a dream
You forget it quickly
In the future, Deja vu will come
You will shake it off
But
You will quickly learn not to

Dreams can come true.
And
All of this
All of this will.
You’ll know it soon
And eventually
You won’t be able to tell what is real and what a simple dream

Then you’ll give up
Deciding that, what is real and what is not does not matter
For, anything going forward, will not matter
The you, your view and opinions
Will.
Not.
Matter.
For you are a tool for The Tower
And you do not care
It hurts too much to do so.

To you, at first, all The Flesh Walls are is comfort
You were already a lonely child
You already feared that no one loved you
She confirmed that.
But
They convinced you that it was all in your head
That They, and only them loved you

You believed them.

They weren’t lying, in a way
But
You both view love differently.

Over time, you could feel it
Like a parasite, their thoughts wormed into your skull
First, you thought nothing of it
That they simply spoke to you
And
That your thoughts reminded your own
Changing when they interjected.

Your skin itches, but no amount of scratching will change it.
Your flesh moves, not of your own choices
You no longer have your own choice
You believe you do
But
You know better by now.
There’s only one choice now

To hate her.

Sometimes you reflect, when their voices quieten
You reflect of the rage of your youth
How it’s turned you
A bitter old man, warped by their thoughts

They love you, that is true.
And love to a lonely man is a drug.
But they love you for what you can do
They love you because you are so willing to listen
They love you because you’ll find her
You’ll bring her and countless others.
It’s safer, after all
It’s the only place children will be safe

Don’t you understand, Six?
Time may have turned you into someone completely unrecognizable
If you were to compare your child self with your current self
But
You still have one thing in common
You care
About her
You want her safe

Come home, Six.

Notes:

So many thoughts about the manipulation of The Flesh Walls, so little time.
