Work Text:
Tina got back from her work trip late last night, climbing into bed quietly as to not wake Quinn who woke up anyway, curling into Tina’s familiar coolness and whispering sleepily, “Can’t sleep as well without you here.”
Tina huffed a laugh and Quinn felt her soft hand on her cheek, then combing through her hair, body pressed against Quinn’s and cooling the heat radiating from her body that was typical so close to the full moon. “Go back to sleep, love,” Tina whispered. So she did.
It’s morning this time when Quinn wakes up. She relishes for a moment in being back in the arms of her lover after so many days apart. Well, only four days. But she’s a werewolf. They’re clingy… but it's also how they fit together. She's missed having Tina to cool her down physically, to warm her up, figuratively.
It takes her sleep-addled brain a few minutes before she realizes something’s different - something’s wrong. A couple more minutes to confirm it…
Tina’s scent isn’t right. Not as… warm as she usually smells, despite being a vampire. The only other time Quinn remembers this scent so strongly was when Tina was turned, several years ago, and refused to feed for a few days before finally giving in and letting Quinn, werewolf of (at the time) 4 years, help her hunt for the first time.
Quinn finally opens her eyes, squinting slightly against the sunlight flooding the room. There’s the telltale faded, almost metallic quality to Tina’s usually vibrant skin that confirms Quinn’s suspicion. She shakes Tina gently to wake her up; she’s always been a light sleeper.
“What?” she groans irritatedly, but Quinn can hear the joking note in her voice.
“How long has it been since you fed?” Quinn asks firmly.
Tina rubs her eyes, thinks for a moment. “Shit.” She looks at Quinn sheepishly. Her irises are also dull and discolored as a sign of the lack of blood in her body. “Whoops. Sorry.”
“Yeah, sorry,” Quinn says, sitting up and crossing her arms. “You look like shit.”
“Thanks, babe.” Tina yawns. “It’s fine,” she says, pushing the blankets away. “I’ll just go hunt - ”
“No, wait! I’ll do it, you stay here.”
Tina looks at her questioningly.
Quinn thinks back to the last time she remembers Tina feeding, the day before she left. “Have you not eaten in five days?” Quinn asks softly, grasping one of Tina’s cold hands between her own.
Tina rolls her eyes but smiles. “I got busy. And it’s not as easy to in a big city where I don’t have a forest in my backyard. I’m fine, I can hunt.”
Quinn rubs her hand a little. “Just… let me, okay?” she murmurs, brushing a strand of hair back from Tina’s face. “You really don’t look good, I’m worried.”
“Are you sure? It’s the full moon tonight…”
Now it’s Quinn’s turn to roll her eyes. She grins and says, “In 14 hours, T, I’m good.”
Tina raises an eyebrow, no doubt reminding her of the day-long full moon incident of a couple years ago. Quinn shoots her a firm look back that says, I’ll be fine.
Giving in, Tina smiles and leans in to kiss her. “Love you,” she whispers.
“Mmhmm, is that a yes?” Quinn sings as Tina presses more light kisses to her cheek and jaw.
“Fine,” Tina says. She drops her head to Quinn’s shoulder. “Thanks, love.”
Quinn kisses Tina’s hair quickly and hops off the bed. “I’ll be back soon.”
