A Sunny Day
A figure stood in front of a tombstone. His cloak whipped behind him as the wind buffeted it. It’s blue cloth frantically swaying as if in a dance. The figure gripped his blue conductor’s hat as the breeze attempted to snatch it off his head. His white mask reflected light from the sun that peeked through the clouds. It’s rays beaming down upon the scenic landscape. Green grass, some mountains in the distance, and the big, blue, glittering sea that lay beneath the cliff that the tombstone was set on.
Upon the tombstone were words etched with care, written by a certain angel, a friend of the departed this very tombstone lay for.
“In loving memory of our dearly departed friend and comedian, our favorite shitposing dragon: Kiryu Coco”
The figure didn’t know the dragon all too well, at least not as well as some. He barely watched her streams to be honest.
But that didn’t make the throbbing pain in his heart hurt any less.
He removed his hat and brought it to his chest as a sign of respect. He made sure to hold firmly to it, lest he lose it to the unruly weather. He could feel the wind blow through his now exposed dark brown hair.
He looked up to the sky, letting the sun peeking through the clouds illuminate his mask and hair. He did not shed any tears. There was no need for it.
Despite the burning pain in his heart, despite the anxiety of the future that plagued his mind, despite the fact he would never get to see his favorite dragon review Reddit shitposts on stream again.
Despite all that, he smiled.
“Some would say that it’s a terrible day for rain,” The cloaked figure spoke to no one is particular, “but I think that despite her death, the future shines bright with a sun high in the sky.”
“Isn’t that what she would have wanted after all? At the very least, I’ll try to see the silver lining in the clouds. To laugh, to smile, to meme as we did with her while she was still here. All in her memory.”
As he made his dramatic speech to the very large audience of zero people, the clouds blocking the sun had moved away, letting the big ball of flame shine in all its glory. It’s blazed with even greater luminance than before, making the figure put his hat back on to avoid its blinding gaze.
“The future shines brighter than ever I suppose.”
His gaze moved to the great sea. It’s waves lapped against the cliff, the blue water glittered like a sapphire gem. Reflected light colored the rocky cliff with a tinge of blue. The salty smell of the sea was brought to the conductor’s nose.
“I don’t know if you’ll ever hear this, but I just wanted to say: Wherever you are, where you go, Kaichou, I wish you luck. Truly, the future still burns bright, just as you did for many of us. A light to make our day, even in the darkest of times. Honestly, some of us were so lucky to have you during quarantine. Truly, I thank you for that, and all that you’ve done.”
The figure saluted. A dramatic gesture, maybe, but he wanted to have a little fun. It’s what she would’ve wanted, right? To have fun even in saying goodbye. Some would have called it disrespectful, he thought he was just making well on his promise to keep smiling in her memory.
“Till next time, you beautiful motherfucker.”
