Chapter 1: A Kiss On The Cheek...

Chapter Text

Bucky was at that point in life where he thought he would never be able to start a family when modern day dating was a flop. It wasn’t until Sarah stated finding a surrogate could be an option, or even adoption; Bucky had thought about it for a while before coming to the decision that surrogacy was the way to go.

Now three years later he had his beautiful twin boys, Frankie and Wesley, they were everything to him and he loved them to no end. Sam was happy to be an uncle, he was already an uncle after all, and AJ and Cass were always begging Sarah to have the twins over so they could show them new things and teach them about the world through their eyes; Bucky was happy to comply knowing that his children are getting a semi normal family presence even without a permanent mother figure. Frankie and Wesley had begun to ask questions about AJ and Cass having a mother and why they didn’t, as well as why the Wilson boys didn’t have a father. Bucky had a hard time deciding on how to explain it to the three-year-olds, coming up with nothing but telling the truth. He had told Sam about the situation,

“Have you thought about getting back into the dating game?” Bucky shook his head,

“No woman wants to take on kids that aren’t theirs, not that I care. Being just me and the boys is fine.” Sam rose an eyebrow at bucky brushing off the topic,

“You know not all women are like that right? In fact, I know a little lady that’s been dying to get back in the dating game!” Bucky rolled his eyes, of course Sam was trying to set him up… again.

“Look man all I’m saying is I know for a fact that she would adore you, and your boys would be a breath of fresh air for her. Give it a try, please? If not for yourself, do it for Frankie and Wesley.” Bucky was silently mulling it over,

“I don’t know man, the boys would need to be looked after and I’m sure you and Sarah are busy, I-“ Sam cut his friend off,

“I’m looking after AJ and Cass on Saturday night, drop them off and I’ll set you up to meet her then.” Bucky sighed, knowing he had no way out of this he nodded and replied,

“Fine, I’ll try.” Sam cheered before walking away to make a call, all bucky could think was ‘what have I gotten myself into?’. Saturday had come around far too quickly for Bucky’s liking, the blaring red ink on the calendar was mocking him; tonight was his date with a woman called Y/N. Sam had told him a few things about her; like she had recently left the army and had been trained by him when she started; but Sam said he didn’t want to give to much away stating that he would allow first impressions to take course. Bucky was nervous what if he completely messes up and says things he shouldn’t. his mind was so preoccupied that morning he ended up putting orange juice into the boys cereal instead of milk,

“Daddy you messed up.” Frankie stated, always the forward one of the pair,

“Yeah daddy, and I wanted blackcurrant squash not orange juice!” came Wesley’s input not long behind, bucky sighed,

“My bad, daddy’s a little out of it at the moment.” He picked up their bowls and placed them into the sink,

“It’s okay daddy! Uncle Sam told us you were going to see a lady today, why?” Bucky stopped pouring cereal into a new set of bowls at Wesley’s mention of Y/N,

“Uh, you’re a bit young to understand right now buddies, but me and the lady are going on a date.” The boys giggled at the mention of a “date”, AJ and Cass had been teaching them more then he knew it seemed,

“Hey no giggling! Eat your breakfast so we can get you ready for Uncle Sam’s!” the boys gobbled down their food – excited to see their uncle , AJ, and Cass.

While the boys were distracted with playing with their toys Bucky decided that it was best to get ready no; a black top, black jeans, boots, leather jacket and sunglasses – along with his leather gloves to hide his arm – and he was ready. The hair gel he had put in kept his hair in the right place which seemed to be the only thing he had control of that day, as the boys were quick to start arguing over a toy,

“Hey, what are you two doing?” Bucky’s stern voice was quick to catch their attention.

“Frankie wants to take this toy,” Wesley held it up, “but I want to take it!”

“Yeah, but I want it!” Frankie shouted,

“Hey, come over here,” Bucky said kneeling on the floor by their bedroom door,

“You’re both going to the same place so you can both take the toy together. How about that?” the boys seemed to take a moment to mull the decision over before they nodded simultaneously,

“Good now come on, grab your bags so we can get your coats on and go.”

Dropping off the boys was easy so now Bucky had even more time to panic about the date. Turning up to the restaurant early he got sat down with a jug of water which he had managed to drink by himself before Y/N walked through the door. While the waiter directed her to the table all Bucky could think was that she was beautiful. He was quick to notice the way she moved her right leg as if it was stiff, though it was a minuscule thing and if he was any normal person and not the former Winter Soldier, he wouldn’t have noticed,

“Hi! You must be Bucky, Sam’s friend.” Y/N spoke, pushing out her arm for a handshake. Bucky responded quickly,

“Yeah, I’m Bucky. Sam didn’t mention that you looked like this! I mean you look beautiful… I didn’t mean that in a bad way, oh my god… I’m so sorry.” Y/N just giggled thinking how sweet the man in front of her was,

“Why thank you, Bucky. You look great too!” the pair sat down,

“So, Sam said you were a part of America’s world war two effort.” Y/N stated, Bucky groaned,

“What else did he tell you, every time someone mentions the fact I was in the war it just means I’m old.” Y/N laughed again,

“I think it’s cool, well not what those evil people did to you but the fact that we have a living war veteran who doesn’t look a day over 33.” Bucky laughed at that,

“Yeah, most people don’t look at me in the same light doll.” The nickname made Y/N’s heart swell. The rest of the date went just as well, they got along more they had thought was possible. At the end of the date, Bucky had dropped Y/N home with his number, the promise of another date, and a kiss on the cheek.
