Chat's iridescent fur rippled down his body as he leapt through Kagami's open window, landing on his forelegs in a graceful, supple movement. His bones shifted under his skin, crackling as he shifted from his feline form to his human form.
He never enjoyed shifting--it was uncomfortable at best and painful at worst--but wearing a human skin was the only way he could kiss his wife. He spat the cloth sachet of herbs he'd picked up for her out of his mouth so he could do just that.
Seated at her desk, the witch turned to him with a radiant smile, holding her hand out for the potion ingredients. "How's my favorite familiar?"
Chat's chuckle rumbled from his chest, where his wedding ring rested on a chain. "I'm your only familiar." Depositing Kagami's sachet in her small, outstretched hand, Chat waggled his brows. "Unless there's something you're not telling me."
Kagami gave him a self-satisfied smirk, waving the cloth bag under his nose. The pungent herbs tickled his nose and almost made him sneeze. He'd sneezed plenty on the run back to his and Kagami's apartment.
"You'd think I'd tell you if you have competition?"
Chat sniffled and dug his palm into his nose, wiping snot on his clawed hand, one of the only parts of his body that wasn't covered in silky black fur. "Ugh. I had hoped you would, but clearly, despite being your favorite, I'm not worth you telling me anything."
Kagami's giggle bubbled up past her lips. "Don't sulk, Adrien. It's not becoming."
That was it. Chat couldn't stand how precious her laugh was; she was too cute and all he wanted to do was kiss her. Placing his hands on her shoulders, he gazed deeply into her bright, amber eyes and leaned forward, gleefully watching as she closed them in anticipation.
But rather than planting his lips on hers, he whipped his head aside at the last moment and closed his sharp teeth around her ear. He jerked his head back, releasing the lobe in a sharp nip, forcing a gasp past her lips.
“Hey!” Kagami’s eyes shot open and her hand flew to her ear. “You brat!”
Chat released her shoulders, backing off lest she take a swipe at him. She didn’t ever swat him for nipping her, but he figured he’d be better safe than sorry.
When he glanced at her under his lashes, her expression was pinched, with her lips twisted up in a scowl. “Don’t make me tell you to scat, cat.”
Chat’s ears drooped. “Oh, no, don’t send me away.” Crossing to her immediately, he rubbed his cheeks all over her face, a purr rising from his chest in a thunderous rumble. “I can be useful to you.”
Kagami tossed the herb sachet on her desk and gently gripped his bare cheeks, staring deep into his eyes. Chat raised his brows, wondering what she had to say. “Adrien,” she murmured, stealing a kiss from his lips. “You know you’re more to me than being useful.”
Chat furrowed his furry brow, nibbling his lower lip, but Kagami loosened his plump flesh from the grasp of his teeth with her fingers. “Don’t cut your lip.” Kagami’s lips turned up at the corners, and the expression was so beautiful, Chat’s heart slammed in his palate.
She pitched her voice low, lighting a fire in his blood. “I plan to kiss those lips tonight.”
Chat’s purr flooded the room, the sound cocooning the two of them in music known only to them. He stepped forward, straddling her thighs in her seated position. “Well,” he said, rubbing his nose on hers, “if it’s all the same to you, I’d like to get started on that.”
Using a feather-light touch, Kagami rested her lips against his and spoke, doing terrible things to his composure. “As you wish.”
He couldn’t take it anymore. Chat slammed his mouth on hers, demanding all that she offered. Tongue darting out, he licked her lips, seeking entrance into her mouth. She gladly opened for him, but then closed her lips over his tongue to suckle, forcing goosebumps to his arms and legs.
Gasping at the sensation, he sat down in her lap, grasping her shoulders and pulling her chest flush to his, pinning his wedding ring between their breastbones. His clawed hands roamed down her back, scratching gently enough that he wouldn’t rip her robes--like he’d done so many times prior, before they’d practiced kissing.
Kagami mimicked his purring, vibrating her tongue in his mouth and making him suck a breath over his teeth. She’d never done that before, and he was overwhelmed with love for her.
Love, and no small amount of lust.
Kagami cupped his cheeks, dragging his face even closer to hers. Her tongue flicked against his, and as she pressed the wet muscle across his palate, Chat saw stars. He rumbled against her, murmuring sweet nothings, dragging a laugh from her chest.
Then she bit his lip. Chat panted against her, crashing his lips onto hers and forcing them open again. He swept his tongue across her teeth in a pace he could only describe as feverish.
Kagami’s groan stirred something deep inside Chat; heat curled in his belly and shot through his chest. His cheeks flooded with warmth; it wasn’t often that she could make him blush, but her forceful kiss, matched by his own, showed him how much she craved her familiar.
Chat knew she loved him. He knew that. But it was moments like these that showed him how much she did. He was always concerned that she’d tire of him or that she’d up and decide she didn’t want him around anymore. Despite the ring bouncing around on his chain as she moved against him, Chat was always insecure about their relationship.
He didn’t have any cause for that. Kagami had been a true and faithful wife, and she had always shown him that she loved him through both big and little things, like trusting him to come back when he roamed away for days satisfying his wanderlust, or not throwing shoes at him when he caterwauled on their fence.
Chat jerked his head back from her. He had to tell her how he felt, panting though he was. “I love you.”
Kagami’s eyes glittered with amusement. “Giving how you were kissing me, I would think that’s obvious.”
Chat shook his head. “No. You don’t understand.” He pressed an open-mouthed kiss to her flushed cheek, admiring her red and swollen lips. “I love you like I love sun puddles on a warm day. I crave you like I crave food. And I need you like I need oxygen.”
Kagami’s warm, lovely smile was all he'd ever wanted. “I love you, too, Chat.”
And with those simple words, all was right in Chat’s world.
