Ω
Omega glowered at the wall, the featureless white surface reminding her of the medical lab on Kamino. She hated the Medical Centre, yet it was a place that was becoming more and more frustratingly familiar to her. This time, she was here because of a fruit.
That’s right, a fruit.
Was it poisonous?
No.
Had it been poisoned?
Not according to Tech.
So what was the problem?
Well, apparently, her body just didn’t like it. That was it.
A food allergy, that’s what the nurse had called it. Her body had thought that something in the fruit had been a foreign body, and it had caused her to stop breathing. The experience had been terrifying, the feeling of her throat closing up wasn’t something she ever wanted to feel again. Luckily, they’d manage to get her to the Medical Centre in time, and now the whole incident just seemed like an annoyance to her.
Hunter was sitting in the room with her, reading a datapad. She sighed and sunk into her pillow, wishing that she could just leave already. She felt fine!
Hunter looked up from his datapad, giving her a sympathetic look.
“I know you’re bored kid. Try to sleep it off, and we should be able to leave when you get up.” He said.
“Why can’t we leave now?” Omega whined, giving Hunter her best puppy dog eyes.
“The doctors want to wait and see how your body reacts to the medication they gave you. Clones don’t usually have allergic reactions, at least that I know of, so we have to be careful.” Hunter explained.
Omega sighed again and flipped over onto her stomach, trying to block out the blinding whiteness of the room.
“I hate being here. It makes me think about the labs and Medical Ward on Kamino.” She said into her pillow.
“You helped out around there, right? I can see why you aren’t excited to see these white walls.” Hunter said, putting a hand on her shoulder.
“I don’t actually know how I was helping. Mostly they just took blood or tissue samples from me. Maybe they were trying to figure out how to make more clones like me. You know, with the Force sensitivity?” Omega questioned, pulling her head up and looking towards Hunter.
“They took samples from you?” Hunter asked, pissed at the idea of the Kaminoans experimenting on Omega. He didn’t like the idea of clones with functioning inhibitor chips using the Force much either.
“Yeah. You get used to the pain after a while.” Omega moved a hand towards the base of her neck. “Usually, they took samples from my lower neck and back. I think once they might have taken some from my spine? I don’t really remember because I’m pretty sure they drugged me with something.”
She blinked in surprise when Hunter’s face scrunched up in anger.
“Hunter?” She asked softly. “Why are you mad?”
“Because it wasn’t right of them to do that to you, Omega. You don’t exist to be used as a tool for others.” He said sternly. “Your body belongs to you, and only you should be able to decide what happens to it. Never let anyone try to tell you otherwise, okay?”
“Okay Hunter.” She nodded in understanding. Hunter ruffled her hair, causing her to smile. She was quite for a moment, then asked Hunter another question.
“Did Echo ask to be changed?”
Hunter’s eyes widened a bit, like he hadn’t expected the question.
“No, he didn’t. He was captured by some very, very bad people and tortured. He never wanted to be like he is now.” He explained.
“Oh.” Omega said, turning the information over in her head. “What should I do if I get caught and someone wants to change me?"
“Fight. Fight until we come and rescue you, and we will. We’ll never leave you to that fate, I promise.” Hunter replied.
“What if I can’t? Would you still love me if I was different?” Omega asked quietly.
“Of course. We love you, and nothing will ever change that.” Hunter’s response was instant and sure, and Omega felt a rush of affection rush through their bond.
She leaned forward and hugged him, smiling as she felt his arms wrap around her. Hugs had been a thing she’d learned about after they’d fled Kamino, and she still thought that they were one of the best parts of life.
Allergies might suck, but she’d deal with them every day if it meant that she got a hug in return.
