The Reveal
Chapter One-Scott finds Out
Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski were used to sleeping in the same bed together. That had started when they were young, and Scott’s dad had walked out on him and his mom. His career came first so he had decided that he didn’t want to be a ‘family man. Raphael McCall was determined to follow his own dreams. That night, a 6 year old Scott couldn’t get to sleep due to his own mom’s crying and his best friend’s mom, Ms. Dia, otherwise known as Claudia’s quiet reassurance in his mom’s room. So, he hopped onto his new big boy bike and peddled the 2 blocks to the Stilinksi’s house, so he could see the one person he really wanted to at the moment. Even as young as they were, Stiles had always known exactly what he needed, whether it be a distraction, a hug, or just to hear, “‘you’re okay, Scotty.” That night, all he wanted was somebody to cuddle up to and cry like he used to do to his teddy bear, but his dad said that he was too old for that now. He just wanted Stiles. It was almost 2 hours before Deputy John Stilinksi found them clutching onto each other with quiet tears rolling down both their faces.
After that, it wasn’t uncommon to discover one of their impromptu sleepovers; their parents had quickly learned not to panic and to just call the other one’s house, if they couldn't find their son. Every nightmare, every bad day, and every sad thing that happened to them more often than not, had one of them running to their best friend. Stiles’ mom died when they were 9, so the two became inseparable. They were co-dependent on each other which would never truly go away, no matter what life threw at them. Now that they were older, those impromptu sleepovers rarely happened. Even with their occasional nightmares, they just called each other. They quickly found out their sleepover usually ended up with awkward moments, aka, they discovered what morning wood was. Now, their sleepovers usually only happened during their monthly ‘Scott and Stiles’ night where the two stayed up all night playing video games, eating junk foods, and watching terrible movies.
But tonight was different; tonight, a 17 year old Scott was uneasy and restless. Allison and he had broken up, and he was sure that this time, it was the end. He would always love Allison, she was his first love after all. He had been thinking that they would probably be better off as friends. That night, they had finally broken up and decided to stay friends. Neither of them really seemed to be that invested in their relationship. Allison had been getting close to Isaac Lehey, a werewolf in Derek’s pack and Scott’s friend and house mate as the teenager was living with the McCall’s. Scott had trouble sleeping that night as his wolf just seemed uneasy. It was getting closer to the full moon, so his wolf was already restless. But right now, his wolf needed his best friend’s quiet reassurance that everything was going to be okay. His best friend and brother, as well as his mother were his anchor. Stiles had always been able to calm him down and that hadn’t changed, even after the bite.
That is how Scott found himself running to the Stilinksi’s house. He had tried calling him several times, but for some reason, Stiles hadn’t responded. The sheriff must have been at work as the patrol car was gone. The jeep was gone too, but he could hear one heartbeat at rest coming from the Stilinksi house. Stiles and his dad were the only two that he knew who would be sleeping, so he figured that Stiles was sleeping and the jeep was in the shop again.
He climbed through the window, as he didn’t want to wake Stiles up by knocking on the front door or letting himself in with the key he had received when he was 13. He settled in Stiles’ bed, and settled into sleep, curled up into his best friend, reminiscent of when they were little kids.
“Good night.” Scott heard the sleeping man mumble from beside him. The voice sounded deeper than his best friend’s, but his own sleep-addled brain dismissed it. He opened his eyes to the sunlight peering through the window. He tried to lift his arm in order to attempt to block the sun’s bright rays this early in the morning, only to realize that it was lodged beneath something.
“I missed you.” Scott heard a sleepy voice mumble from beside him as he felt an arm tighten around his waist.
“I missed you too buddy. But, I think you need to wake up because your hand is headed into an uncomfortable zone.” With that arm said, the arm let him go and the body connected to it shot up out of bed. Scott, now fully awake, recognized his Alpha, a 22 year old Derek McCall.
“Scott, what are you doing here?” Derek asked as he got out of the bed and grabbed the blanket. But not before, Scott realized that Derek was only wearing a pair of Batman boxers, he was pretty sure belonged to Stiles.
“I think the better question is, what are you doing here? Sleeping in my best friend’s bed, wearing nothing but his boxers.” Scott stood up from the bed and faced the older man.
“Der, get up. It’s almost 7 and dad wanted to have breakfast together, then after I catch a few hours of sleep, the rest of the day is going to be just us. We can have a relaxing day together.” They both heard Stiles run up the stairs and yell.
“Get up my cuddly wolf.” Stiles opened his bedroom door and said. He instantly saw his boyfriend with a blanket wrapped around him, glaring across the room at Stiles’ best friend. He could tell by the expressions on both of their faces that this wasn’t good.
“Der, why don’t you shower and change while I take care of Scott.” Stiles prodded his boyfriend gently into the other room. He knew his best friend well enough by now that he needed to defuse the Scott bomb first before he soothed his boyfriend.
“Okay, call me if you need me.” Derek agreed and kissed him on his cheek before practically running to the bathroom.
“Explain.” Scott demanded of his best friend.
“Dad was working on a case and brought me in to assist him.” That wasn’t really surprising since Scott knew Stiles was planning to follow in his dad’s footsteps. Since Stiles was 18 now, the sheriff occasionally let Stiles assist in some of the cases.
“Okay. That still doesn’t explain why my alpha was in your bed wearing what I’m pretty sure is your boxer shirts. While you’re at it, explain what’s up with the kiss, roving hands, and the fam…” Scott started saying before Stiles cut him off. Stiles could tell that Scott wasn’t handling this unexpected surprise very well.
“Derek and I have been dating for almost a year now, and my dad has known since a little after my 17th birthday. We told him together and although he was against it at first, he came around. He approves now, and he and Derek are really close now which is a little unnerving.” Stiles told him.
“Why didn’t you tell me, Stiles? We’re best friends; I thought that we told each other everything.” Scott said with a hurt expression.
“Scott, we are. Nothing will change that, including how big of an a**hole you were to me. Scott, you were…” Stiles started to say.
“Stiles, I get it. I’ve apologized for that.” Scott reminded his best friend gently. His best friend had a tendency to ramble on and all though he loved him for it. It could also get tedious and long, so he had started to refocus his best friend to the real conversation.
“Scott, I was scared.” Stiles explained.
“Of what, you must have known I would have accepted you. I’ve told you before that I don’t care who you like. Even when you had that crush on Jackson in the 1st grade.”
“You swore you would never bring that up, Scott McCall.”
“Stiles, you’re my best friend. I don’t care who you date. I am hurt that you didn’t tell me. You’re my best friend and you couldn’t even trust me enough to tell me who you’re dating.” Scott told him.
“That wasn’t it. I will always trust you, no matter what. I didn’t say anything at first because I wasn’t sure if it was just hormones or the lure of the forbidden because I was underage at the time. It was about 6 months before we both realized that we were falling in love. We told my dad at that time, which was about 2 months after I turned 17. It was hard enough telling my dad, I couldn’t bring myself to tell you as well. Honestly, I didn’t want to hear your lecture on how I shouldn’t get involved with Derek. I would end up getting my heart broken because I tend to fall too quickly and other things like that.” Stiles explained.
“I wouldn’t do that.” Scott answered.
“Scott, yes you would. You’re overprotective. I sat through the same speech about Lydia, Malia, and even Danny, even though you knew there was nothing between the last two. You lecture, disapprove; honestly, you’re worse than my dad sometimes.” Stiles told him.
“I get that but what about after you were sure, why didn’t you tell me?” Scott asked him.
“The sex was phenomenal and all the secrets just made it even hotter. I can tell you more if you want to hear about it.” Stiles answered as he laughed.
“TMI, dude. I don’t want to hear that.” Scott said, looking disgusted with his best friend’s words.
“Consider it payback for all those times you made me hear about Allison’s perfect breasts, her hair, or even the way she smelled.” Stiles told his best friend.
“Stiles, what was the real reason? We’ve been best friends since we were 3, we used to share everything including a bed. I know you, and that you hide behind laughter and sarcasm to avoid conversations you don’t want to have.” Scott told him honestly.
“I was scared that you would end up being right and that Derek would hurt me. More than anything, I didn’t want you to be right. I knew that if I told you, we would soon have to tell the rest of the pack and I wasn’t sure how everyone would react to the fact your Alpha’s mate was a human.” Stiles told him honestly, unable to look Scott in the face.
“I’m sorry, dude, that you felt like you couldn’t tell me. Did I hear you right? Did you say mates? As in, you and Derek Hale, my alpha are mates.” Scott questioned.
“Yes. We knew there was something between us after the whole Jennifer/Darach situation. So, we went to Deaton who told us that we were mates. At first, we fought against it, but then we realized that we just fit together.” Stiles said while tentatively biting his lip. Scott could tell that his best friend was anxious and he knew that his lack of a proper response to Stiles’ surprising announcement was just making it worse.
“Stiles, that’s great. You found someone that makes you happy and I couldn’t be happier for you, even if it is with him. You know I”m not exactly Derek’s biggest fan, and hell, I still have my own personal biases against him. But, I do have to admit that he’s changed a lot since we first met him. He’s a good one, Stiles, and I promise that I’ll do better.” Scott said as he went over and joyfully hugged his best friend.
“So, you really don’t have a problem that your Alpha’s mate is a 147 pound, scrawny, talkative, and sarcastic human boy.” Stiles asked him tentatively.
“You’re my best friend and my brother. There’s no one more worthy to be an alpha mate than you. I will fight anyone who disagrees with that including our own pack. You two are good for each other.” Scott told him before he gladly went over to hug his best friend.
“Do you want to join us for breakfast? Derek is an amazing chef when it has to do with meat. As we both know, my dad still thinks he’s the Gordon Ramsay of breakfast foods. I already know that Derek and my dad are downstairs arguing over the best way to cook eggs.” Stiles told his friend.
“That sounds good. But, everyone knows that scrambled eggs are the best, especially with cheese and peppers.” Scott answered smiling.
“You don’t want to get in the middle of that argument, believe me. They will each cook their favorite eggs, so just sit back and reap the benefits.” Stiles told him seriously as they walked down the stairs.
