Work Text:
Byakuya is doing too much again. His hair is messy, his sleeves rolled up, his glasses somewhere else, and a pen is in his hand. Papers surround his desk, and he's been going at it all day.
Hiro has just woken up, groggily processing the fact it's 3 AM and his boyfriend is still awake.
"Kuya, dude, come to bed,"
"I just need to finish these,"
"You can finish them tomorrow,"
"I need to," He doesn't /need/ to, honestly, but his brain has convinced him he does. Always working harder than required, always doing more.
"Byakuya."
"Hiro."
"You need to sleep,"
"I'm fine. You don't need to tell me what to do,"
"No, you're not. You made yourself sick last time," Hiro stands up and pops his back before walking over to Byakuya.
"C'mon love. You can do those tomorrow,"
"Go back to bed, Hiro--"
"No, not without you,"
Hiro gently tilts Byakuya's face towards his own. The other male looks exhausted, with the same dark circles that had been there for years. Hiro doesn't think they'll ever go away at this point.
"It's okay. These papers can be taken care of tomorrow. Or the day after that. You can't do your work if you're exhausted."
"Bold assumption. Look, I'll just do these last five papers and--"
"Five will turn into ten and it'll be 6 am before you know it. Some of these aren't even due soon,"
"They still need to be done though, what if something happens and I don't have time for them?"
"What if it doesn't?"
"Then I'll have enough time to work on something else,"
"Byakuya. Did you do anything besides work today?"
Byakuya doesn't answer.
"...Babe. You're okay. No one is going to be mad if you don't have all of this done,"
"...I don't know,"
"Right?"
"...I suppose they won't,"
Hiro gently rubs Byakuyas cheek, "One more paper. Okay?"
"Okay." Byakuya sighs, finally giving in.
Hiro sits on the edge of the bed and watches as Byakuya begins to work on the next paper. The former Ultimate Prodigy is naturally left-handed but learned how to use his right hand as a child. He had mentioned it once that his father found it to be better.
He was currently using his left hand though, a defiant action after years of pressure. After the killing game, the memories began to come back, both good and bad. At least now they-- and the other survivors' behind-the-scenes work? Kyoko helped, yes, but she and Makoto worked on more of the social aspects rather than mechanics. Hina and Hiro worked on actually talking to people.
Hiro is so zoned out that he doesn't realize that Byakuya is done until the other man sets his pen down.
"Done?"
"I suppose so,"
"Great, you can get out of that stuffy collared shirt now," Hiro grins, getting up so he can hand Byakuya something else.
"I don't understand your dislike of my clothing," Byakuya sighs, but still changes into the shirt and shorts handed to him.
It's one of Hiro's shirts. Despite the fact they're practically the same height, their body types and clothing styles are different. That means that Hiro's shirts tend to be rather big Byakuya.
It's cute to Hiro, despite the fact his boyfriend would say something rude to that.
"I'm going to go brush my teeth-- Which, did you even do that before you slept?" Byakuya raised an eyebrow.
"...Uh,"
"Brush your teeth,"
"Damn." The two walked to their bathroom together, brushing their teeth in silence.
"Good?" Hiro asks, as the two walk back to their bedroom.
"...Good,"
Byakuya shuts the lights off as Hiro gets into bed. As soon as he lies down, Hiro pulls the other to his chest.
"You okay?"
Byakuya nods into his chest, returning the embrace. At times the affection can be too much, leaving him silent. Hiro often doesn't know what to do in these circumstances, however, he does his best to provide solace to his boyfriend.
"Uh...I don’t know how to put this, but you know your worth isn’t based on your usefulness or how much work you can do. You’re Byakuya, and that’s enough...Yeah,”
Byakuya leans upwards to gently kiss Hiro’s cheek, “Thank you, darling,”
“Yeah! ...Of course,”
“I love you,” It's quiet. Byakuya doesn't like to be loud with his affection-- he prefers actions, looks, simple things that could be unnoticed by a stranger but hold a surplus of meaning. Hiro treasures those too, of course, but Byakuya's words bring him another swell of joy.
“...Love you too, Kuya,” With that, the two slowly drift to sleep, intertwined both physically and emotionally.
