Eunbi likes Yuna. She always found the girl charming, and oh-so gorgeous.
So it's not a surprise when she asks her out not too long into their friendship.
Luckily for her, Yuna feels a similar way.
Their first date is a simple one. Nothing too fancy, nothing too formal, nothing too complicated - just simple. They go out for dinner, go to the arcade, Yuna walks Eunbi home, and she gets a kiss on the cheek.
Their second date is arranged for three weeks later. They both have been busy college students preoccupied with typical college student things...except Eunbi figures out that Yuna is even more busy than first thought. The girl does everything. She does track, she does ice skating, she does gymnastics, she does badminton, and she even has time to slot in pole-dancing for exercise. As if she didn't need more.
So it doesn't surprise Eunbi that Yuna has a lot of friends, given all the activities that she does.
Yuna asks if Eunbi wants to play some card games with some of her friends.
Card games are fine, they're nothing too complicated, and they weren't a lot of work to play.
Or so Eunbi believed.
But when she's sitting beside Yuna in a board game café, scared out of her mind from the other woman's fast reflexes, she thinks otherwise.
The bell in the middle of the table doesn't even ring - it is slammed too hard by Yuna's hand to even make a noise.
Everyone at the table groans again, as Yuna's grin is sewn across her face when she collects all the cards into her pile.
One.
Three.
Two.
An incorrect ring of the bell signals for one of Yuna's friends, Yerin, to hand out a card to each remaining player.
Eunbi's eye fixate on the cards being laid face up on the table, trying to anticipate the time when five of the same fruits will appear.
Eventually it comes.
There it is.
When Yewon flips over one of her cards to reveal a singular banana that adds to the count, Eunbi knows.
It's five.
Now all she needs to do is just -
"Ah..."
Eunbi sighs in defeat when she can't even reach out to touch the bell.
Yuna and Sojung's hands are on top of each other, both with the intention to claim the large collection of cards. Eunbi hears the two arguing out who touched the bell first.
A loud laugh fills the room, Eunbi - another Eunbi, not Yuna's date Eunbi - laughs at the older girl who shares her name.
"You can't act disappointed when your hand was nowhere near the bell!"
It's chaos.
As time passes, Eunbi sits out with the other losers, the other Eunbi, Yerin, and Yewon, as Yuna and Sojung fight it out for first place.
It's accompanied by a lot, and she means a lot, of shouting from Sojung.
The other patrons of the café tell her to quiet down, but as Eunbi figures out, it does little to lessen the volume.
Sojung looks pissed as Yuna wins, although Eunbi already knew what the result would be.
"That's right, I'm the Halli Queen!" Yuna says victoriously.
Everyone looks slightly cranky, save for Yewon. Eunbi rarely knew her, but she got the feeling that she was a ray of sunshine.
It all ends the same - Sojung and Yuna as the final participants, followed by Sojung wondering why Yuna has superhuman reflexes.
The pair leaves the board game café after everyone decides that there's no point in playing against Yuna anymore, and Yerin does not want to keep holding Sojung back from tearing down the place.
"Did you see that, Eunbi? I won all five rounds!" Yuna says.
"It's nice, Yuna." Eunbi replies, linking their arms together. She tentatively snuggles into her.
Yuna rambles on and on about her victorious streak, and Eunbi can't help but feel bad that she doesn't quite share her enthusiasm.
"Hey, are you okay?" Yuna asks.
Eunbi nods hesitantly.
It's not the ideal second date, Eunbi thinks.
She doesn't want to admit that she didn't enjoy it. She feels selfish.
Maybe she wanted a cute date with Yuna, some time with her in a less chaotic and loud place.
She didn't mind seeing Yuna's friends at all, but she didn't expect most of their date to be sitting around waiting for Yuna to claim another victory against the same sore loser.
They end the date with Yuna walking Eunbi back to her household, mirroring the end of their first date.
"I'll, uh, text you again." Yuna says, before kissing her on the forehead.
She sees Yuna walk slowly away, almost as if she was unsure about something.
And then she stops.
Eunbi feels a buzz in her pocket.
Her phone lights up with a text from Yuna.
Maybe through text is easier. Are you feeling fine?
They exchange a glance.
Eunbi sees Yuna type again.
You don't have to tell me the details, but I'm sorry if I did anything wrong.
They meet each other's eyes again, and Eunbi's hand comes up, gesturing for Yuna to come back.
Eunbi can see the slight worry in Yuna's eyes and Yuna can see the longing in Eunbi's.
Eunbi hesitantly guides Yuna's hands to her waist, letting go when Yuna's grip settles gently and the sweetest smile grins back at her, telling her that this is okay.
"I...just wanted to spend time with you." Eunbi confesses, before leaning her head against Yuna's chest.
"I appreciate the time spent with your friends...it's...nice, but -"
Yuna sighs as she brings Eunbi closer.
"I really like you and ever since our first date, I wanted to see you again."
Yuna mentally facepalms, putting two and two together that the date didn't create the ideal environment.
"I'm an idiot."
Eunbi panics. "No, I didn't mean it like that! I mean, you're still really pretty and I still like being around you and..."
Her voice trails off once she realizes that she is rambling so much that her pride is shattered.
Why don't we just stay like this for a while?
Warmth takes over Eunbi's body as the two stay in front of Eunbi's house, embracing for what felt like hours.
Their third date takes place a little sooner, a week later.
The two spend their time in Eunbi's house, cuddling and talking until the next day comes.
Both of them are the winners.
