A Young Girls Any% World Record

Summary:

Hello you absolute legends.

There's been plenty of decades-old games that were thoroughly disassembled and broken down to their constituent parts, resulting in incredibly optimized speed-runs. And yet, there are still new tricks, skips and exploits being found up to this day, many of them shaving off precious seconds, sometimes even minutes from runs that were considered pretty much perfect and unbeatable.

Today, were are not going to be talking about any of those. Instead, we'll be exploring the wonderful world of "Youjo Senki". A relative newcomer to the speedrunning community that took it over by storm, and yet already it is rife with some amazing skips and exploits saving hours form any prospective speedrun.

Today, we're exploring the Top Four Youjo Senki time-saving strategies.

Chapter 1: #1 - The Early Recruitment Exploit

Chapter Text

Youjo Senki is somewhat unique in it's approach to the tutorial, what with it having little to do with core mage combat mechanics, but providing a different experience from what one would expect from a game of its genre.

You see, the developers wished to create an anti-war story, concentrating their narrative efforts on the futility of war and how it brings nothing but suffering and despair. The tutorial level for the main game, that is the Orphanage Years Arc, provides a good grounding on what to expect from the life of an orphan in a war-torn country, and eventually being drafted into the military of a failing empire.

However, there's a way to trigger the 'join the military' flag much earlier, without the need of playing through in-game decades of orphan life and struggle in a war-torn country.

What one needs to do is to invest all of their free time and skill-points to grind the magical power, mana capacity and intelligence stats, while taking all the choices that decrease the wisdom stat, whenever such options present themselves. Mind you, those are slightly randomized, so it may be needed to restart the game a few times before an optimal choice presents itself. The first one will give us enough power and ability to fight through any and all challenges, while the second choice will result in the game giving us more challenges to grind EXP from, as well as the unique "Atheist" development path.

One also needs to avoid every church service possible, as well as manipulate bread values thorough every dining sequence. If it sounds weird, that's because it is. The so-called "bread values" by the community, are an integral part of the RNG seed that has an enormous impact on further scripts and enemy behavior that make use of these 'randomly' generated numbers.

Usually what one needs to keep in mind when deciding how much of the bread they share with their fellow orphans thorough the tutorial is how the malnutrition debuff will impact their character progression. The general idea is that hoarding food will be to the benefit of the character, making them stronger and healthier. However, during this phase of the game, it's important to know how giving away one's meals will impact the ever-important karma score.

The best strategy found so far posits that one should always share their meals with their fellow orphans to maximize the karma score despite it's impact on personal development stats. I've linked in the description the exact strategy used to achieve optimal results. If you'll ever want to attempt a run yourself, you will most likely need it.

With that done, during the Standardized Mage Recruitment Test administered to all children, the player should have enough stats to trigger the Recruitment Pitch script if they complete the mini-game perfectly, despite it not being available this early during a normal play-through.

What one needs to do at this point when presented with the option of recruitment into the military is to pick the "wholeheartedly refuse", "make doe eyes" and "sniffle and try not to cry" options. Then in the next day's event pick "reconsider" and "write a letter to the general staff HQ" or "write a letter to the local recruitment office" at the next earliest opportunity, depending on which option presents itself, and ask to be allowed to volunteer one's service to the Fatherland if the events triggers properly.

Keep in mind that getting the option to participate in the Standardized Mage Recruitment Test has only ~33% chance of occurring at the best of times, so you may have to reset your system several times before the option pops up, and then have the chance to participate in the test.

In any ways, if you do everything right, and the RNG favors you, you should be given the option to accept being admitted to an officer school hours before you'd normally be during a normal play-through.
