Chapter Text
Narcissa, Draco, and I sat on the couch in the living room, waiting for the Hogwarts's acceptance letter. Draco and I have been excited about it since we were kids. We couldn't wait to become the leaders of Slytherin. We used to be such best friends until we both grew up and changed.
Now, we're pretending to tolerate each other, because Aunt Cissa is here. Aunt Cissa is a nice woman that I can't believe ever birthed something as terrible as Draco. Apparently, he got his awfulness from his father, Luscious. I'm glad that Narcissa took me in when my Godmother was sent to Azkaban, though.
My real mum died giving birth to me and my father didn't want me, but Bellatrix promised my mum she would take care of me if anything happened to her. She ironically, is also in love with my father. She ended up genuinely loving me, but when I was a little over a year old, she was taken to Azkaban. She changed my last name from Riddle to Lestrange, because she loves me and also because it would be easier for me to access her vault that way.The Malfoy's know she’s my true mum too, which is why Narcissa loves me so much. She isn't my blood aunt, but she loves me like one. I think that's also partly because she was my real mum's best friend. My thoughts were interrupted by our family owl carrying Draco and I's letters.
"What do the letters say now?! What supplies do you need?! What classes are you going to have?!" Narcissa asked, excitedly, despite her typically calm demeanor.
I looked at the letter, and the first thing that caught my eye was the books for defense against the dark arts. "Yay! We get to have defense against the dark arts! Oooh and Divination and charms and herbology and flying and potions and transfiguration and astronomy!" I was getting way too excited for this, but I know all of these things, so I get to be the annoying show off that makes people feel bad about themselves! Plus, I can learn more that will help me take over the world!
Narcissa laughed at me, but Draco rolled his eyes and told me to calm down.
A couple days later, my Godfather, Remus and I were hanging out in Diagon Alley when he decided to go with me to get my robes, since I was so excited! We also went to Hogsmeade for Honeydukes and Zonkos.
After that excitement, it seemed that every day dragged on until it was time to go shopping for books.
"Time to go shopping," Narcissa cooed, excitedly.
"We can get all of your things at Diagon Alley. You both already have your wands. Drakey, you can have the family owl, and Elektra, you have your cat and robe, so we have the pets and wands. "
"I'm getting an owl," I said.
"You already have a cat! You don't need another pet!" Draco snapped.
"Well, I can afford my own animals, so it's none of your business!" I said, annoyed. He just rolled his eyes again and used flew powder to teleport to Diagon Alley. I smirked, and followed him. Mum used to steal a lot, so she's rich. I inherited all of her money. I'm more spoiled than Draco could ever dream of. My thoughts wandered to when Draco and I got our wands as we shopped for our books.
“I want that one” Draco said in his bratty tone.
“Oh, but son, the wand chooses the wizard,” said Mr. Ollivander.
Draco was actually amused and didn’t complain. He picked up a different wand and tried to use it. I burst out laughing as he made an entire shelf almost collapse on top of him. He practically threw the wand back to its case.
“Why don’t you try if you’re going to laugh at me?!” he demanded, glaring angrily at me.
I grabbed a wand made from unicorn hair and expected it to work on the first try, but to my dismay I ended up causing a bunch of objects to swirl around and shoot like daggers across the room. I gave a nervous laugh as Ollivander seemed slightly scared. Draco laughed too and then joked about the fact that at least he just made the shelf fall instead of almost impaling everyone. That made me laugh harder. A wand from across the room caught my eye. Olivander’s eyes squinted. It was almost as if we both knew this was the one. Even Draco was looking from me to the wand and back again. We exchanged glances as I picked it up.
“That’s made from hawthorn wood with a Phoenix feather core, 12 3/4” with a slightly springy flexibility,” Olivander said. ‘Wow he’s really good at his job,’ I thought.
Light shot from the wand and it was both literally and metaphorically magical. This wand had chosen me and I had chosen it. I couldn’t help but smile. It almost meant as much to me as my cat Scarlett even though it isn’t alive. It’s a part of me.
“Three feathers came from that Phoenix. Do you know from whom they belong?” Ollivander asked, intrigued.
“No, who?” Even Draco seemed interested and hadn’t continued to pick his out yet.
”James Potter was the first,” he said. That’s interesting, since Remy and my real mum were his friends.
“Who else?” I asked.
”Your mum, Evelyne,” he replied and my eyes widened. They were friends and they had wands from the same phoenix, and now I can be closer to my mother because I have the last one. I couldn’t help but smile widely as Draco picked up another wand.
”That one is dragon heartstring,” Ollivander said.
“It has to choose me, my name is Draco,” he said and I laughed, but would have said the same thing. Surprisingly, it didn’t pick him. He picked one up off a shelf he could barely reach and Ollivander said it was made from Hawthorn Wood, unicorn hair, was 10” and was reasonably springy. I could tell the experience was magical for Draco and we all knew that this wand was his.
”Maybe our wands were made from the same tree!” I exclaimed as Aunt Cissa bought them for us.
”I hope not. I wouldn’t want my wand to be contaminated,” Draco teased.
“Your wand is the one contaminating mine!” I argued and we argued until Aunt Cissa bought us butterbeer.
I held my wand and smiled. Everyday for months afterwards, we’d practice spells together. We were both quite good.
After we got our books, I had everything on the list I need, except my owl. I already have my brown and black tabby cat, Scarlet. I call her Scar for short. I don't know what to name the owl, though.
I stood there thinking, and Draco snapped in front of my face. "Are you just going to stand there?! Come on, we don't have all day!"
"You might not, but I do! All I need is an owl! I even have the newest broom already," I replied, proudly, even though we aren't allowed to bring our own.
“You're so spoiled, and full of yourself! You get everything you want and do whatever you want!" he snapped. This time he seemed disgusted, and almost envious.
"You're the spoiled brat, so why are you constantly chastising me?!" I snapped back.
He opened his mouth to snap back, but Narcissa came up to us, and handed us each a butter beer.
"Thank you!" I cheered. After we drank and talked, I finally managed to get away from Draco. Once Narcissa finished the conversation, she took him to get his robes.
I went to Sugarplum's Sweets Shop to get some candy. I got the Bertie Botts jelly beans, a chocolate frog, candy floss, and some exploding bon bons.
Right when I entered the shop, an owl flew over to my shoulder. That's how I picked Scarlett, so I know that this is the owl I'm going to pick. "'at owl really likes you," a deep voice chuckled. I turned to see Hagrid. I first met him when I ran into him in Knockturn alley. I accidentally bumped into him, knocking his slug repellent on the floor, so I had to buy him some more. He said I didn't have to buy it for him, but he was so nice. We started talking about how he works at Hogwarts and then he started telling me about his animals. I love animals, so we became friends.
"Indeed, she does, Hagrid," I smiled, "What brings you here? I thought you only liked mythical creatures, and Fang of course."
"I love all animals, but I'm h're f'r him," he replied, pointing to a black-haired boy, who was looking at everything in amazement. He seemed to be picking out an owl.
"Hello!" I smiled to the boy. Whenever I speak to Hagrid, I can't help, but be in a good mood.
"Hi," the boy said, smiling back at me.
I giggled, "You love it here as much as I do, don't you?" He nodded, smiling, before he picked out his owl.
"Wh't 're you going to name yer owl?" Hagrid asked me. I was so busy watching the boy that I almost forgot. I've never seen someone as excited as I get. "Mystic," I decided.
Hagrid smiled, "We have to go, but I will buy h'r for you."
"Really?!" I asked, excitedly, "Why?"
"Because I can tell how much you care for h'r. You'll give h'r a home she deserves. I he'rd that she went through some bad times before they found h'r," he explained.
I smiled and felt a warmth in my heart that I haven't felt in a long time.
"I can't wait to see you at Hogwarts!" I cheered, "And nice meeting you!" I said to the boy.
"Nice meeting you too!" he smiled.
Maybe Hogwarts will change me. I've been waiting so long for the acceptance letter that I never really thought about what all it would mean.
