It may not have been all that worrisome at first

Work Text:

It may not have been all that worrisome at first, but after a while the larger pieces of his irrelevant regrets started piling up higher and higher until he was finally buried five feet deep and closer to the center of the Earth than he’d ever been before, breathing nothing but the loudest of snores and racking his own brain desperately for how he’d gotten himself into this situation at all, sandwiched between two burly NBA basketball players on the same double bed at 7 am in the morning.

At the very least, Koganei considered himself to be someone used to following the rules and adjusting to the demands of other people. If it was Riko, he might complain about it a little at first (who wouldn’t?), but in general he was probably the most responsible person ever, to the point that, if he’d been in a period drama, he’d be the first one to fuck up and die–speaking figuratively, of course. It wasn’t like he didn’t want to be a minor character, anyway.

Presently, however, his role as a minor character was being unquestionably threatened. To his right, Aomine Daiki’s large frame was squashed into the space between the wall and the bed, one large arm drooped over Koganei’s chest and another leg wound around Koganei’s elbow–basically, he was humping Koganei’s arm in his sleep. On his other side, Kagami was breathing loudly into Koganei’s neck, the rumbling sound of his snores disrupted every so often by the irregular flow of oxygen between the mattress and Koganei’s shoulder. Half of his body was falling out of the bed, but his sleeping form seemed entirely unfazed by this.

Koganei tried not to shift positions, although he doubted that neither Aomine nor Kagami would have noticed it, the magnitude of their collective snoring extravagant enough to serve as evidence of this fact. The walls of his bedroom were literally vibrating.

He gave it another fifteen minutes before he extricated himself from the bed and left the room to seek refuge on the balcony of his apartment. The air was cold outside and it kept his more hectic thoughts in check. He breathed in deeply, and tried not to think too hard about what had happened last night.

The balcony door opened behind him and he didn’t have time to turn around before two sets of hands grabbed both of his arms, and he was being forcibly dragged back into the living room. “Come back to bed, Koganei-senpai,” Kagami yawned into his ear. “It’s cold without you.”

“There’s two of you there, I highly doubt that’s a problem,” said Koganei. Kagami growled softly, biting his earlobe in response. “Ow, what the fuck, Kagami.”

“I just don’t want to sleep next that idiot,” Aomine added helpfully from behind. “Hey Kagami, you take his legs and I’ll grab the other side.”

“You know,” said Koganei, when they hoisted him into the air. “I have an article to write. It’s due tomorrow. You guys were only supposed to be here for a basketball interview. What happened to that?”

“You think we’d show up just for some shitty interview?” said Aomine, and Koganei heard a tinge a amusement in his voice.

“He thought it was a proposition,” Kagami sighed, and yawned again. “Wasn’t it supposed to be a proposition?”

“Hey, don’t look at me, Kagami was the one who said you were down to fuck,” said Aomine.

They dropped Koganei back down on the bed and then curled up on either side of him again. Aomine closed his eyes and immediately went back to holding Koganei in what was probably supposed to be a gentle and loving headlock. Kagami rolled onto one side to face Koganei.

“Hey, senpai.”

“What is it?”

“It’s nice to see you again.”
