Chapter Text
Doyoung tried his best to survive his high school life without encountering any problem at every single aspect he knows, except for one thing. Love. Everyone knows how painful it was for Doyoung when his ex, Junghwan from Class 2A, broke up with him.
But it was in the past now.
Or was it?
Junghwan and Doyoung were once known as the most popular couple during their high school days. As both of them belong to their school's dance club, they were notable due to their dancing skills that can compete even with the country's professional dancers. However, everything changed during that day. The day that Doyoung hated the most.
"Hyung, let's break up."
Those words still linger in Doyoung ears, even though two years have already passed. He still remembers how long he cries night by night, trying to cry out the pain and grief he felt during that time.
Today is his first day at the university as a Sophomore. Despite their history, Junghwan followed his hyung at the same university. After all, it's all in the past and that's what Junghwan thinks.
Doyoung finished tidying up his room when he stumbled on a box hidden under his bed. It was the box where he put all of the memoirs he kept during those times he and Junghwan went on dates. Polaroids, tickets, every single thing that reminds him of those dates. He was about to open the box when the door beside him opened.
"Honey? Breakfast is ready. Be sure to go down quickly. I know you hate getting late at school." His mom said. He gave his mom a faint smile and a nod before changing to his uniform.
After changing to his school uniform, Doyoung rushes downstairs to eat the breakfast prepared by his mom. The table was too silent for the both of them. His mom decided to break the silence by saying, "Doyoung-ah, I heard that Junghwan will be studying at the university where you are also studying. What is his major?"
Doyoung paused at the sudden mentioning of his ex's name. He quickly regained his composure by answering his mom with eye contact. "He hasn't mentioned to me about his course but I'm sure he's majoring in Dance Arts. After all, that was our dream together."
"Well, aren't you majoring in Dance Arts as well? I guess the both of you can continue that dream after all." Doyoung's mom left a chuckle.
After a few minutes, he finished his breakfast and bid farewell to his mom, who's being extra by fake crying like sending his only son to study overseas. Doyoung just giggled at the cute antics of his mother. Since the university is just a 5-minute walk from his home, he decided to walk his way towards it. The air was a bit cold, making Doyoung shiver at the breeze the wind blows. He stopped by at the nearest donut shop near their high school. It brought him back so many memories that it left him freezing in between the memory lane. He remembers their first date here. The smell of the freshly made donuts, the brewed coffees, Junghwan's smile, every single thing. He remembers it all too well. He continued walking to wash away the thoughts flooding his mind.
He walked a few steps from the donut shop to reach the university he's currently enrolled in. The voices of the students echoed to his ears. It was another normal first day of school for everyone. He started walking towards the hallway where students usually gather during their free time. As he was walking around the hallway, he encountered Bang Yedam, a Musical Arts major, who happens to be his best friend.
"Yow, dancing king! What's with the gloomy face, huh? Did something happen this morning?" Yedam asked while tilting his head in confusion. Doyoung gently shook his head to get rid of the serious atmosphere between them.
"It's not that serious. While I was tidying up my bed earlier this morning, I stumbled upon that 'box'." Doyoung explained. Yedam just sighed at the younger's explanation. "Well, didn't I told you months ago to get rid of that box? If you don't want to light it up on fire, you can just bury it in your backyard." Yedam reminded him.
Right. Yedam told him 3 months ago to get rid of those memoirs because it will only remind him of that painful past. But, he can't just let go of those memoirs, right? He treasured every single memory he had made with Junghwan but all it brings now is pain and tears in his eyes.
"All right, help me later. I'll bury it in front of the tree where we used to meet back then." Doyoung said. Yedam just facepalmed at what he had heard but he can't disagree. Once Doyoung said something, he can't turn back at it. Doyoung might be his batch's happy virus, but even his seniors can't stop nor defy him when he's serious. That's how scary he is.
The both of them continued their talk while walking towards the special room designated for the top-performing students in both Musical and Dance Arts. You can call it a privilege for those who do well in their studies. They don't have an official name, as the university refers to them as just a group of the best students in their field. However, they call themselves TREASURE. Choi Hyunsuk, one of Doyoung's seniors in Dance Arts, suggested that name for it means that they are the treasure of their university. They are the university's representative, The role models that the College students, even high school students look up to. They are not only good at dancing, singing, and performing. They also do well in academics, which makes them the ideal guys that girls wanted.
They stopped at the door with the sign 'TREASURE'. "Seriously? What's with the signpost?" Doyoung said to himself. Yedam opened the door, revealing the members of TREASURE.
- Choi Hyunsuk, a Dance Arts major, notable for his swag in dancing and his powerful rap.
- Park Jihoon, a Vocal Arts major, notable for his powerful vocals that always captivate the audience.
- Kanemoto Yoshinori, a Vocal Arts major, notable for his smooth rapping and his soothing vocals.
- Takata Mashiho, a Dance Arts major, notable for his powerful dance moves.
- Yoon Jaehyuk, a Vocal Arts major, notable for his sweet vocals and visual that is out of this world.
- Hamada Asahi, a Vocal Arts major, notable for his fresh vocals and his songwriting.
Bang Yedam is known for his astounding vocals. He's dubbed as the university's vocal king, for winning countless singing contests in their school. Well, he's banned from joining because the students think if Yedam participates, it is a sure win for him. Doyoung, on the other hand, is known for his dancing prowess. Doyoung has won a lot of dance contests back in his Middle School and High School days. He has already been praised by numerous professional dancers around South Korea. With it, he has earned the title of the university's dancing machine.
"Doyoung-aaaaah!" Hyunsuk screamed while running towards Doyoung to give him a big hug. Doyoung hugged him back while letting out a giggle. "Hyung, you missed me that much already? How about Jihoon hyung?" Doyoung said while hugging his hyung. Hyunsuk broke the hug and rolled his eyes. "Why would I miss that kid who's like a phone that's always on loudspeaker? And besides, we spent the whole summer together." Hyunsuk answered. Doyoung smiled at what he has heard. Hyunsuk and Jihoon have been dating for around 3 years already. Despite the childish fights between the two, they always make sure that the love and care will never fade away.
"Anyways, have you heard the news?" Jaehyuk told them.
"What news?" Jihoon tilted his head in confusion.
"The university held a special try-out for those who want to join TREASURE. Only freshmen were allowed to join though." Jaehyuk explained the said matter. Doyoung suddenly thought of Junghwan. Did he join the said try-out? Did he pass?
"One of the passers is So Junghwan. You guys remember that kid who loves donuts more than studying?" Asahi spilled out. Doyoung froze.
"Junghwan passed the try-out? That only means that we will be seeing each other more often." Doyoung just heaved a sigh.
The door of their room suddenly opened, showing 3 new members, and one of them is Junghwan, who is grinning at the sight of his hyung.
That warm smile, Doyoung remembers it well. All too well.
