Birds song || Hawks x Reader

Summary:

Y/N is a pro who just moved from the states. With their owl quirk; having wings that almost drag the floor, stealth, and a few more little secrets--- they need to get used to their new surroundings. Often lingering around UA and occasionally the city. Y/N had yet to notice the number 2 hero Hawks. Seemingly they both thought they were the only ones around with any sort of bird related quirk; but they'll soon find out they were wrong.

Chapter Text

You'd think with a new job and a whole surroundings change, things would go smoothly. You already had your pro title, knew where you'd be living in the time you worked, had a few mutual friends so you weren't exactly 'alone'.

But in reality it turned out to be the exact opposite.

You'd taken a plane from the US, as expected; a simple quick flight from one place to the other--- even though you did have your own wings, you weren't built for distance flight, so it was way easier on your part. Regardless of the odd stares from the other passengers of the plane-- and the guy seated beside you who personally questioned why you hadnt flown yourself considering your given quirk.

You explained to him that it didnt work that way, and you'd tire out and probably drown in the ocean, or starve, or get lost. There were too many downsides to that. But it didnt matter, you knew your own boundaries and that your quirk was owl based. Owls could fly for a long time but- they surely didnt seem to be migrating birds. You werent willing to test that out any time soon.

But within a nap, and a few hours more on a plane you made it. You had a cab pull up, putting your belongings into said car, and you were off. Giving the driver directions on where you live. Taking your things and dragging them all out and to your little apartment. It was on the top floor; although it was rather small. A kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and one bath. Just enough for yourself. You werent planning on having any sort of company over any time soon. You were more of a secluded person anyway. Avoiding others was kinda your go-to when it came to the outside world.

But hey? You're new here. You knew you didnt exactly know the ins and outs; so maybe interaction was needed?

Later on in the day you found yourself sitting in a little beanbag. Scrolling through your phone and looking for some sort of excuse to look around and be nosy about your new job. There were options for it of course- Make your own hero agency or join under someone elses. You werent used to that. Back in the states they let you register as a hero, and left it at that. If you wanted to join someone else and make groups that was all up to you and everyone else. Though most stayed alone and only joined up when there was a difficult villain. You of course were one for fighting alone.

It only made sense that it was weird to you. So you went with making your own agency. Luckily you were provided with a building to do that, and devices and other things of the sort to help that kickstart. Or thats what you were told at least.

In the US they didnt exactly have hero costumes either. So- thats something you had to work on as well. But within due time of course. You were in no rush. Work started some time later in the week. So you were more focused on settling in and learning your surroundings.

And with that thought in mind. You lay back in your temporary pile of pillows and blankets. Just deciding to nap for a few hours. You'd wake up later to go shopping or something. Or find some place to get some small furniture. You hadnt decided yet.

Lulling off into a light sleep, awaiting the next day to arrive.

You hadnt realized that that your friends were trying to set you up with a sort of...tour guide. For work that is... The 'guide' himself didnt realize it either. Not yet, he had no idea you were even around. Living in his own little world...

---------------

Present Mic, who you met overseas when you both were back in high school getting your licenses. Your school just so happened to have enough space to spare for a few fledgling heroes.

Simply put it meant they shoved two or three to a dorm room. Cause they really didnt have space.

You just so happened to get paired up with some Aizawa and a Hizashi guy.

And back then? You werent known for being the most invested or nice. You managed to ignore the two of them for the first week or so. Other than the constant noise the yellow haired teen made.

Man he was the worst.

But when it was night, and you found yourself preening your wings or putting your hair up into a bonnet before you went to bed. He'd always try to chat with you. He was loud, but not ear deafening loud as he usually was.

Most likely the training they went through earlier in the day. He was probably worn out and clearly so were you.

But it definitely made it easier for him to interact. And that he did.

"Hey hey hey, " he started, earning a sigh from you. Him smiling his oddly wide smile, chuckling lightly " I noticed you werent at lunch earlier,"

Well- yeah he was right. You didnt go to lunch. But you hadnt thought anyone noticed. You just wanted to get extra practice in. Your quirk was decent. It had its limitations for sure. You were still learning yourself and how to use it even then. Hell, you'd only recently learned that you could basically turn your neck almost 180 degrees. Even that weirded you out a little. So you could only wonder what else you had hidden within yourself.

But you looked over to him as he spoke again. " Sooo I was thinking- "

you could hear a sigh coming from in the shared dorm, Aizawa, obviously " You, thinking. It cant be anything good." his little snide remark passed right through one of hizashi's ears and out the other as he voiced what he had in mind

" You, me and Aizawa. We go to get some food from across the street."

You stared at him in disbelief.

" Are you stupid or something? We'll get in trouble if we leave campus."

But he let out this quiet, but mischievous chuckle.

"Yeah, only if we get caught."

You had no idea at all how he convinced you, and Aizawa both to do this. You'd never done something this dumb before.

But you three left the dorm room, snuck through the halls. And out a back entrance. All without getting caught.

And before you knew it, you were standing right across the street, walking into a restaurant with two idiots you hardly knew.

You didnt admit it to yourself, but you were having fun. Much more fun than you've had in...well a while.

----------

" Okay okay, so let me get this straight. Owl quirk? Wings, weird neck flexibility? And thats it??" the loudmouth blabbered in between eating some fries.

You just scoffed, sipping at your drink and giving him a sharp look " You make it sound like its crappy. Its not, its actually pretty strong."

Aizawa shook his head though " It sounds...boring.." but hizashi whipped out his phone and started typing. As if he were on a mission.

Then he blurted out " Nocturnal, night vision, acute hearing-"

" Well those are a given. Silent flight too. Nothing special" Aizawa turned to his friend. Seeming grumpy that they were up so late out.

You on the other hand, were the opposite. You usually had to go to bed like everyone else. You just cant sleep through your lessons. Being nocturnal had its downside when it came to schooling. But you managed it somehow. Somehow...

But the fledgling voice hero seemed to differ at what his friend said " I think you've got something special. We just gotta find out on our own time."

He smiled over at you. And for the first time since you've met them. You smiled back. It was small, you'd miss it if you blinked too fast. But it was there.

But from that night forward, he was your friend. They both were.
