Work Text:

Charlotte was on her way back to her apartment after another failed family dinner. She just couldn't listen anymore to her parents constantly talking about her getting married to some dumb rich guys. It's not like every rich guy was dumb, but these guys were born rich and they never had to lift their fingers in their lives. They were arrogant as well. Not Charlotte's type.
She went into the elevator and her neighbour Yami came in as well.
"Hey," Yami said.
"Good evening."
Charlotte didn't know Yami well, but he was a huge man and she was alone with him in the elevator. She wasn't feeling comfortable.
They rode the elevator for a few seconds when it suddenly stopped. Yami grabbed the railway but Charlotte wasn't lucky. She hit her shoulder.
Yami sighed. He had crappie day and it got just worse.
"You alright?"
"Just bumped my shoulder."
"We are stuck. I'm gonna call the manager of the building."
Yami was on it. Charlotte was lowkey impressed about how he seemed calm.
She could hear the manager saying that he would call the company that managed elevators.
Charlotte sighed.
"You aren't claustrophobic or something, right?"
"No, I'm good."
They waited for five minutes in silence when Yami's phone rang. Charlotte heard that they would need at least half an hour to come.
"We have hair for half an hour, right?" Charlotte was a little bit worried.
"If we don't, we can open that shaft on the top."
"I see."
"So, half-hour to kill. I don't remember introducing myself. I'm Yami Sukehiro." They shook hands.
"Charlotte Roselei."
"You aren't exactly a social butterfly," Yami smirked.
"Not really." Her guard was still up. Yami took off his jacket and put it on the floor to sit. Charlotte secretly admired his arms.
"The floor is dirty." Charlotte pointed out.
"And jacket can be washed. Of course, perhaps you don't want to dirty your precious clothes."
Charlotte raised her eyebrows. "I don't."
"There is space for you to sit in as well. Don't worry, I don't bite."
Charlotte sat down without much complaint. For some reason his easy-going nature attracted her.
"So, what do you do for a living?" Charlotte tried to start a conversation. She did have to spend at least half an hour with him. She could learn at least something about him.
"I run pub downstairs."
"Black Bull?"
"Yep."
"I've seen children there." Charlotte reprimanded him. Yami chuckled. "They are all young, but over twenty-one."
"You don't look like a person to be at the pub." Yami noticed.
"I was dragged there by a colleague. a few times."
"I see. What about your job?"
"I'm a lawyer."
Yami whistled. "You like arguing with people?"
Charlotte smiled a little. "A little. But I like justice as well. I don't like rich people winning just because they have connections."
Yami laughed. "I would have never guessed. How long have you been living here?"
"Since I was nineteen, so eight years now."
Yami did a quick calculation. She was only a year younger than him. She seemed a little cold but intelligent. Her smile was nice as well. Perhaps If she was single he would ask her out.
"No offence, but you look like rich people."
"My parents are."
"Trouble?" Charlotte was surprised by Yami's perceptiveness.
"I went to eat dinner with my parents and they invited arrogant rich snob as well, implying what a nice couple we would make." Charlotte rolled her eyes.
Yami cheered inside. She was probably single.
"But enough about me. What about your family?"
Yami looked ahead. "They live abroad. We aren't close either."
"Why the name Black Bull?"
Yami smiled. "I never fitted in here. I have always been huge and people assumed I was a gang member. So, Black Bull, it is."
"Oh."
"Those kids are part-timers but they have family issues as well. They also don't fit in anywhere else."
"I see. It's a nice place then. I should come more often."
"You don't get free drinks just because you know the owner." Yami joked.
"You seem like you don't know how to handle finance so I wouldn't dream of it," Charlotte said jokingly as well.
"It's true." Yami shrugged.
"What about love life? Must be lonely." Charlotte asked.
Yami frowned. "I had some crazy experience. The last girl I dated wanted kids so she poked the condoms. I've been single for a few months."
Charlotte grimaced. "Yeah, that sounds bad. You are not lucky."
"Not at all. You don't seem that lucky to me either."
"I'm not. But I have my job and it keeps me sane."
Yami nodded. "Perhaps you want to try luck again?"
Charlotte looked confused.
"Perhaps you want to try luck with me." Yami implied while smirking, but inside he was nervous.
"If you ask me on a proper date, then sure thing."
They exchanged the numbers.
Workers came to bust them out then.
"I will call you."
"You'd better."
