Chapter 1: Mr.Honeynuts

Chapter Text

David groaned lowly, there was a weight on his chest. he mumbled and opened his eye's. he blinked slightly, his adopted son was sitting on his chest.

"Max?" David muttered.

"he's gone." Max growled.

"who?" David ask confused. there were so many 'he's' at camp.

"Mr.Honeynuts." Max growled. David groaned lowly and sat up stretching.

"you didn't leave him... in here....?" David ask, looking around the room. his room was normally organized but today it was trashed.

"no! I looked everywhere! all the tents, the dining hall, the Quartermasters store, even Gwens room! I can't find him anywhere! get up you have to help me find him!" Max said.

"okay Max, hold on. let me get dressed." David said, getting up. Max crossed his arms and stared out the window as his adoptive father headed to the bathroom to change.

"David! someone trashed my room!" Gwen hissed storming in. she paused seeing David's room the same with Max sitting on the bed. "you little shit!" Gwen hissed.

"leave him alone Gwen." David said walking out of the bathroom and stretching again.

"he trashed the camp!" Gwen hissed.

"and we'll clean it up as soon as we find Mr.Honeynuts." David said.

"WHAT!? you trashed my room for a stupid stuffed bear?!" Gwen hissed.

"he's not stupid!" Max shouted. David scooped the boy up and put him on the ground.

"come on, lets go find him before the other campers wake up." David said, taking the boys hand. Max glared Gwen down angrily and followed David. "okay Max, where'd you last see him?" David ask.

"in my bed." Max glared, pouting at him.

"okay lets just check your tent real quick." David said. Max nodded and followed him. they searched through the tent.

"he's not here." Max said, arms crossed over his chest.

"David." Gwen sighed. David poked his head out of Max's tent. there stood the rest of the campers, each looking upset.

"what happened?" David ask.

"they're missing things too." Gwen sighed. "space kids helmet, Nurfs knife, Dolphs paint brushes, Nerris' hat, Nikki's wolf blanket, Neils computer... thing, Ereds skateboard, Harrisons cards, and Prestons type writer." Gwen said. David pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I bet those stupid wood scouts did this!" Harrison growled.

"taking everyone's prized positions does seem like something they would do..." Neil offered.

"what'd they take from you Max?" Nikki ask curiously.

"the last thing my mom gave me before she disappeared." Max said. David winced slightly. by 'disappeared' Max, of course, meant that she was murdered by his father, when Max was 4. the man patted Max's head gently. of course the whole camp knew David had adopted Max, he bragged about it on and on anytime he got the chance.

"and we'll get it back. all of it. everyone will get their stuff back. no one needs to be worried." David tried to assure them. Max angrily grabbed hold of his arm and yanked him down hard.

"get. it. back." Max growled lowly. it hurt to call Mr.Honeynuts an 'it' but no one could know his secret.

"I promise Max. everyone will get their stuff back, just calm down." David sighed.

"I say we take the fight to them!" Nurf growled.

"they want a war they got it!" Neil hissed.

"no! no! no war! we have to find a peaceful way to-" David started.

"we need Pikeman, he's the leader of the group." Neil said. Max smirked.

"and I know just how to get him." Max grinned. he smirked at Gwen.

"hell no you little spawn of Satan." Gwen hissed.

"do not talk to him like that Gwen." David sighed.

"your little hell spawn wants to use me as bait!" Gwen growled.

"hey it's not my fault that stupid zit face, pizza munching, grease guzzling, dick sucking-" Max started.

"Max!" David warned.

"it's not my fault the creep has his eye's on you! now be useful Gwen or I will make the next two and a half months of camp an absolute hell hole for you and I don't mean it lightly. just because David took all the stuff he could find doesn't mean he got all my stuff and I will blow your fanfiction notebook sky high with a home made rocket." Max warned, growling. Gwen scold at him angrily.

"fine you little snot nosed creetin!" Gwen growled.

"cretin." Max corrected with a smirk.

"I'm going to backhand you." Gwen hissed. Max sneared.

"David would never let you. now lets get our stuff back." Max smirked. they followed him.

"where are we going?" Nikki ask.

"boot camp." Max smirked. "lets get the boats ready." Max grinned.

"Max we can't go over there." David said.

"no, you can't go over there. someone has to stay at the camp." Max smirked at him. he couldn't risk Pikeman hurting David, not even for Mr.Honeynuts. David sighed and waited, watching them go.

David paced silently and sighed. he looked at his watch, it had been an hour. he could suddenly see the canoe coming back, but something was wrong. he ran to the edge of the water. the kids were all beat up and most of them were outright sobbing. he couldn't see Max's face, he had his hood up. Gwen seemed more exhausted than normal and beat up just like the kids. the moment the boat hit land the kids climbed out.

"are you guys okay?" David ask looking over each child.

"they burned our stuff." Neil said quietly.

"right in front of us." Nikki added. David worriedly knelt in front of Max when he saw blood drip on the ground. his son smacked his hands away and silently headed off. David looked at them all worriedly.

"I-I'll be right back." David said, following Max. he followed the boy to the counselor cabin and found him laying on his bed. he was curled up and sniffling. "Max?" David ask.

"they burned him." Max said quietly. "he's gone..." Max added. he looked up at David with a black eye, his nose was gushing blood. David frowned and left the cabin heading for the water. the odds Pikeman had actually burned their stuff was pretty low.

"David...?" Gwen ask. something had snapped in the man and he stomped towards the canoe.

"I'll be right back." David hissed. Gwen watched him go silently, before trying to comfort the kids.

David got to the shore and stomped out. he knew the camp. he could hear the little shits laughing and growled. he grabbed Pikeman by the collar and slammed him against the nearest building.

"h-hey!" Pikeman cried. David glared at him.

"I want my campers belonging NOW!" David ordered.

"too late! they're gone!" Snake laughed. David sneared.

"alright, let me make this perfectly clear. I get my campers stuff or you get a broken neck." David warned. Pikeman paled a little.

"P-Petrol..." Pikeman ordered. the man nodded and walked off. David growled watching him go. Petrol returned after a moment with everyone's stuff. David looked through it and nodded watching him put it in the canoe.

"where's the bear?" David hissed. Pikeman snickered.

"of course. little Max can't get his stuff back so he sends daddy to get it back for him." Pikeman laughed. David growled and got in his face.

"look here you little shit, that bear is the only thing he has left from his mother. she gave it to him before his father murdered here, where is the goddamn bear!?" David shouted. Pikeman swallowed and pointed up. David followed his finger. they'd hung Mr.Honeynuts on the flag pole. "Mr.Honeynuts!" David exclaimed. he glared at Pikeman. "bring him down." he hissed.

"no way! we won him fair and square!" Pikeman hissed.

"I get the bear or you get a broken arm. I'm not afraid to hurt you kid." David spat. Petrol tapped Davids arm and held the bear out. David huffed and dropped the boy, grabbing the bear. "don't fuck with my son." David growled and got back in his canoe with all the items.

David let out a deep breath as he got to the shore of Camp Campbell. with Mr.Honeynuts tucked up under his arm, he grabbed everyone's stuff and put it on the ground. the kids immediately cheered and ran for their stuff. David gave a small smile and nodded at them.

"whats with the bear?" Nikki ask. the other kids looked at David who ignored them and headed for the counselor cabin. thats all the answer they needed. it was Max's. David walked into the cabin and crouched in front of the bed, Max as curled up in his hoodie.

"Max?" David ask.

"fuck off." Max sniffled, his voice cracking. "I don't wanna talk." he muttered.

"not even to him?" David ask holding up the bear. Max sniffled and looked up annoyed, ready to tell David off, but the words caught in his throat. he stared a moment.

"Mr.Honeynuts!" Max cried snatching the bear and hugging it tightly. "you got him back!" Max exclaimed, tackling David in a hug. David ignored the small pain when his head thumped against the floor.

"of course I did kiddo." David smiled hugging him back. Max had so many questions running through his mind, but he couldn't ask them. he was too busy with his face buried in Davids neck, clinging to his father and the bear.

"you're the best dad ever." Max muttered quietly. David smiled brightly and hugged him tighter, slowly sitting up.

"David the kids want to know if they can just do their own thing tonight." Gwen said, poking her head in.

"yeah. just let them do what they want." David murmured. "I'll be out in a bit to help." David added.

"just stay here David. I can handle them." Gwen said, leaving. David stood after a moment and laid on his bed with his son. the boy was still clinging to his bear and David could feel his shirt getting wet. he wouldn't say anything about it. he wanted to let the kid have his time. David wasn't proud of his actions, but sometimes letting your anger control you was the best thing you can do. he smiled and kissed the boys head, smiling when he was pushed away in favor of Mr.Honeynuts. everything would be fine in the end, as long as the wood scouts stayed away from his son, but David didn't think that would be a problem anymore. it's always the nicest people you don't want to explode. David tightened his arms around his son and just simply enjoyed the moment of best dad ever. he was happy and so was Max. thats all that mattered.
