I imagine the Valorant agents as fighter pilots, each in their own little squadrons.
Sage and Viper were a squadron of two, with Sage as the flight lead because of her immense skill, as well as her calm-and-collected composure in the heat of battle. Viper never liked to take orders from Sage, as Viper was more independent, but at the same time, she was dependable.
The two developed a special bond. After one night of celebration, both of them woke up the following morning on the same bed and in each other’s arms. As much as their personalities and beliefs differed, neither pilot had any problem with it. Since then, Viper made sure nobody could ever get close to Sage. On ground, at the base, wherever, it was the same story. Sage would do the same for her.
But as the war against the opposition dragged on, Viper started to question whether or not she was on the right side of this fight.
At the war’s climax, some fighters abandoned the “Valorant” side of the fight to join the other, with Viper being one of main instigators. In an unfortunate incident involving the mishandling of certain weapons, those fighters went AWOL amidst the confusion, and were never heard from again.
When the situation stabilized, the “Valorant” side reformed the ranks so that Sage gained Jett as her number two. Before that, Jett was in a squadron of three, consisting of herself, Phoenix, and Yoru.
Sage would confide in Jett when they weren’t off on sortie, worrying a lot about Viper. This would repeat itself nightly, and the two grew close as a result, but not as close as Sage and Viper were.
On what was considered the “Final Mission,” the two were invaluable in combat. During their radio celebrations, Sage felt as though she could finally move on, now that the war was over…
Suddenly, there are multiple radar contacts. One by one, all of Sage’s allies get shot down.
Including Jett, who couldn’t bail out in time.
Before Sage could cry out for anyone to respond, her plane’s radar picked up a familiar IFF signal.
Viper’s signal.
On the radio, her voice was full of rage. After all that time in hiding, she had found her reason to fight. She felt lied to.
Sage was outnumbered, it was her against a whole fleet of planes. However, this was Sage, a legendary Ace pilot. One by one, each radar blip faded from sight until only Viper’s remained.
The two clashed for what felt like an eternity. All throughout, Viper would essentially explain her thought process, why she left, why she felt the need to continue fighting, and how there was no going back.
Eventually, Sage had managed to land one final blow to Viper’s experimental craft.
Viper refused to bail out, and all Sage could do was look on while in tears.
It didn’t matter to her that she had single-handedly won the war. In the span of a few mere hours, Sage had lost the two people that she cared about the most to a seemingly meaningless conflict.
