a pleasant surprise

Summary:

"While he wandered aimlessly between the rows and rows of tables, he wondered where everyone else might be.

At least until he heard a crash from the kitchen. Q-Taro quickly snapped out of his thoughts and rushed into the room. He was definitely caught off guard from what he saw next.

"Kai..? Is 'zat you?""

Or in other words, Kai and Q-Taro reunite in the afterlife.

Work Text:

Q-Taro opened his eyes. There was a terrible pain in his lower back and his entire body felt like it was fire. He felt hotter than when he did playing baseball in the summer time. Now why the hell was that..? Last he remembered it was around spring...

Then it hit him. He was dead. Once when he was in the hospital he was sure he would die and didn't due to Midori and his consent form but this time...this time he's dead for sure.

It all came back to him. One moment he was urging Mai to hurry up and close the coffin and the next...he was here. Dead as can be. Then another thought hit him. Where exactly is here?

Q-Taro pushed himself off the ground. It hurt quite a bit, but he couldn't just stay on the floor forever. After a quick glance around the room, the baseball players stomach filled with dread.

Oh no. No, no, no, no, no. This couldn't be. Why...? Q-Taro's head was spinning. Why in the world would he be stuck in the same place he died in...forever? What kind of shitty afterlife rule is that? Sure, for some people that'd be pleasant, staying in your home forever and all that. That was definitely not Q-Taros case. The Death Game traumatized him horribly and he had to stay there forever? Utter bullshit.

Slowly but surely, Q-Taro gained composure over himself again. Taking a deep breath and re-adjusting his cap, he started to explore. Since he's here, the others might as well be too. The last time he checked, he wasn't the only one dead.

Pretty soon he found himself in the kitchen. The lowest floor was fairly empty so far, but maybe, just maybe he'd find someone in here. While he wandered aimlessly between the rows and rows of tables, he wondered where everyone else might be.

At least until he heard a crash from the kitchen. Q-Taro quickly snapped out of his thoughts and rushed into the room. He was definitely caught off guard from what he saw next.

"Kai..? Is 'zat you?" Kai stopped dead in his tracks and almost dropped the pan he just picked up. Turning around rather slowly, Kai was quite taken aback to find himself in the arms of none other than Q-Taro Burgerberg himself.

"Q-Taro, I...I never thought I'd see you again," Kai responded, still a bit in shock. He just couldn't believe it. He was with Q-Taro again.

"Were ya that sure I was gonna survive? I'm glad ya had so much faith in me at least...But it's real good to see ya again. You don't understand how torn up I was over yer death..." With a slight chuckle, Kai responded.

"Yes, I was fairly certain you would make it through the Death Game. You definitely seem like the type, if you get what I mean. And it's awfully great to see you too, but could you please let me down?" Q-Taro practically roared with laughter at that. He patted his back and let the smaller man back down on the ground again.

"Sorry 'bout that, guess I was just too excited to see ya!"

"Don't worry about it. It was a pleasant surprise, I'm just not too fond of dangling in the air for too long."

"I get that! I doubt many people do..."

"I suppose so. Before you came along I was cooking some lunch for the others. Could you maybe assist me in doing so?"

"I don't see why not! Growin' up I hadda cook for the younger kids a lot an' I always enjoyed it! Where do most of 'em live anyways? I was lookin' around some earlier an' I couldn't find any of 'em..."

"Fantastic! I'm glad to have someone with some experience to help me out...Sad to say, but Nao isn't much of a cook... Oh, and to answer your question, pretty much everyone lives on the third floor. It seems most convenient since it contains bedrooms, a medical office, and the relaxation room. Now, let's get started."
