Chapter 1: Day 1

Chapter Text

5:12am

“Good morning gogy”

“Good morning dreamy”

“What are you thinking about in Britain?”

“Dream, what do you think about death?”

“It's unknown and scary to think about. What about you?”

“It's unknown and takes you away from things you love.”

6:28am

It was early in Florida, much too early for Dream to be awake. That is, if he didn’t have a best friend that lived across the ocean in a completely different time zone. This was the normal for Dream, he would wake up, send George a message followed by a pointless conversation, and then grab a coffee and begin his day.

Today the coffee maker was a little slow, but other than that it was completely normal. He had already started his routine and was ready to continue before being interrupted by a dm from George.

“Hi Dream.”

Dream smiled, even if this was an odd way to begin one of the normal chats. It was very… George.

“Hello, George”

“How has your morning been?”

“Great! I was thinking maybe we could hop on call and discuss some plans for that video idea we were talking about a few days back, how does that sound?”
Dream wished to respond with the normal ‘good? you?’ but he knew George well enough to know he would say something along the lines of ‘it's not morning here idiot’ that joke had been used too many times to count by now.

“Hmmm… Sure. I haven’t been feeling well today so sorry if I sound off. Also no camera, my beautiful face looks terrible today.”

“Nah, you're probably still beautiful.”
Dream laughed to himself. He knew George would take it as a joke, even if it wasn’t. Did Dream even know if it was? No, but he longed to find out.

The reason he spoke to George every morning at 4am. The reason he would send little reminder messages that he was awake and George could call him if he ever needed. He knew George’s home life wasn’t good. He would sometimes be on a call and George would start crying over something that happened, and Dream would always be there to help him. Always. If the butterflies in his stomach meant more than bros being bros, he was fine with it. All he knew was whatever made George happy made him happy.

7:39am

George sounded more than just ‘a little off’ today. His responses almost sounded like recordings clipped together to form sentences. When Dream would tease him sometimes he just wouldn’t respond, or say something completely wrong for that situation. There was one point when Dream mentioned something about how they should record a video where George was a fox and they beat the game, but George went on to say something about a hot dog. I didn’t understand much, but whatever sickness George had must be messing with his head.

After the call we continued to message each other. We were playing a little flirting game, the first one to become flustered loses. They both agreed to be honest, but Dream wasn’t planning on it. He had already become flustered multiple times, but he just knew that George must have been as well on the other side of the Atlantic.

“Dream, did you really mean what you said earlier when you said I still looked beautiful?”

While reading the words it was as if his body froze. The tone of that message contained none of the lighthearted flirting that went on before it. It scared Dream.

“Of course I did. Do I lie, Georgie?”

George stopped responding for a few minutes. Minutes turned into hours, and for a moment he felt like he did something wrong until he saw his phone light up with a message from his favorite person.

“Hi! I missed you!”

The message confused Dream. George’s strangeness carries over to his messages too it seemed, but he didn’t let it bother him. It felt nice to have George miss him.

“I missed you too gogy”

“What are you doing right now?”

“If I’m honest, I am thinking of you.”

And with that Dream received no messages for the rest of the day, leaving him with time alone to think of those emotions that had been brewing for his best friend across the world.

sorry that first chapter has such little in it. wanted a little bit of an introduction to the story.
