Work Text:

As much as Jisung always waited for the summer to come when the end of the sememster was approaching, as bored he wound up being most of the summer. Of course, that was no one’s fault but the town’s he was living in (also his parents’ but he was not going to say that in front of them, like, ever). Curfews were sadly still a thing for the high schooler and while he knew why, he also felt like he had the right to complain about them. Like every teenger ever. He just was lucky that his parents were rolling their eyes and letting him be.

However, the fact that there were barely any fun things to do in his town also irked him to some extent. There were just so many times he could go bowling with his friends before it was going to get boring. Also the skateboarding park started to get more and more full ever since almsot every kid and teenager had a board of their own. Also some of the more fun things were mostly open in the evening and those were going past his curfew most of the time.

Being a kid in the nineties sure was fun as hell.

“Jisung-ah.” his mom called out in an exasperated tone.

“What?” he answered in Korean, since it was the language he spoke the most at home. He would be speaking half Korean and half English with his dad at times, though. His mom was not that good in English.

“When will you decide to get your ass out of my couch and help me around, huh?” she started nagging him as she came out of the bathroom and saw him focused on his gaming device, making her roll her eyes. “You should do other things other than straining your eyes in that annoying little screen, broomhead.” she let out another snarky reply and Jisung sighed in a desperate manner at the sound of the English ‘insult’.

“But when I ask you if you need help you always say no, ma.” he retorted back and closed his gameboy, putting it on the couch next to him. “How am I supposed to know when you need my help and when you don’t?”

“Stop acting like Saint Mary and help me clean around the house.” she simply said and handed him the broom and a cloth. “Go tidy up the kitchen while I finish off the bathroom, after that you will clean your room and then you’re free to resume whatever thing you were doing. Stop giving me that look and now move your ass before I move it for you.”

“Yes, mom.” he sighed and took the broom and the cloth, walking lazily towards the kitchen and he looked around, feeling thankful that there was not really much to do. However, the horror that sent shivers all over his body about what he had to clean in his room. Maybe he should have been making an effort to be more clean. As if that was going to last, anyway. It was the thought that counted, though.

Dusting off the surface areas didn’t take him long and putting back the dishes that were done drying was not too big of a deal, however brooming the place was always one of his worst nightmares. He wasn’t very good witha broom and his mom knew that, but she considered that if he forced him enough times to do it, he would learn. She was wrong. It’s been ages and he still had no idea how to do it efficently. But at least he was getting the job done. That counted, right?

As he was finishing doing that, he heard the house phone ring and his mom yelling ‘I got it’ as she came out of the bathroom and picked up the phone, asking who it was. After a bit of back and forth in korean between her and whoever was on the other line, Jisung was done and was placing the broom back in its designated place.

“Jisung-ah!” she spoke up suddenly which startled him. “It’s Minho. Come talk to him.” she said and then she extended her hand with the phone in the direction her son was. He got obviously excited at the mention of Minho and sparks formed in his big round eyes as he tried to nonchalantly walk lazily towards the phone and not give away the fact that he was maybe a bit too excited.

“Hyung!” he said as soon as he put the phone next to his ear. “What made you grace me with your phone call?” he asked and that got him a chuckle from the other boy on the other line. Jisung’s mom was long gone back in the bathroom to finish it off, since she was almost done as well.

“You see...” Minho started saying. “There’s this drive-in movie theatre thingy that will happen soon and I think that’s pretty gnarly. Was wondering if you’d want to come with me and see the bad movie they are going to put up? If you want, of course. No pressure.”

“That sounds like fun! Do you know what kind of movie they are going to put on or are you clueless on that one?”

“Well, no, I have no idea.” Minho said but there was more to what he said. Jisung was able to feel it, but he decided to let it slide instead and pretend he didn’t notice for the sake of the ‘surprise’.

“Okay, when should we see each other?” Jisung then asked.

“I’ll pick you up! At 7:30 PM. Make sure you’re ready and I already talked with your mom, she said that it’s okay if you come back home past your curfew since we have no idea how long it’s going to last.” Minho informed his friend and the other almost let out a squeal out of excitement.

“Hyung, you’re the best.” he simply said and that earned him another giggle from the other line.

“All snazzy. See you then!” he said with finality and then Jisung replied with a small ‘Bye’ before ending up the call by placing the phone back in its spot.

“The hangout goes after you clean your room, Han Jisung.” his mom told him after she closed the door of the bathroom. “So you better be fast at it. You’re lucky I like Minho enough to let you in his care.”

“Have I ever told you I love you?” he asked and his mom just laughed softly.

“Go now.” she simply replied and Jisung first leaned in and left a kiss on his mom’s cheek before running upstairs to do what he was told.

Truth be told, when you mentioned Minho overall, Jisung’s attention would always be perked up by so many levels. He would always do things at a faster pace if he was supposed to meet with him. People considered it endearing to some extent and they thought it was a really wholesome friendship and they would be right. However, Jisung knew there was something more about his interactions with Minho than what they were letting others know.

He started picking up on them later than he should have, probably, but he was aware of them, he just pretended he did not know what some innuendos meant. It wasn’t because he was scared of reading too into it or of the fact that he might have been judged, no. He was just afraid of how his relationship with Minho would turn around if he was going to speak up on it. They felt the same, it was pretty obvious if you didn’t have your eyes closed. But he was afraid of the outcome if they ever decided that the advance of their friendship was not what they looked for anymore. Wouldn’t it be awkward?

“Jisung, you think about this too much. Ah…” he told himself and sighed, trying to woosh away those thoughts. He needed to focus on the… ‘date’ tonight and have a good time. Overthinking could happen later when he got home.

After he was done putting on his clothes and combing his hair, he walked downstairs, saying a loud ‘Hi’ to his father who just came home. His dad returned the gesture in the same manner, which just made his wife and Jisung’s mom roll her eyes.

“Where are you heading, bud?” he asked after he took off his shoes.

“Me and Minho are going to see a movie together. He is going to bring me back home, however we don’t know how long it’s going to be. Mom said it’s okay if I come later than expected though.”

“Honestly, it was time for you to stay a bit later.” he said but his wife immediately cleared his throat. “Or not.” he added and all of them started laughing.

After the laughter died down, a honk could be ehard from outside the house, signaling that Minho was there already.

“Okay, I’m going, see you guys later!” Jisung said and put on his shoes and then basically ran out of the house to meet Minho, who let his window down and a smile appeared on his face as soon the younger one came into his sight.

“Hi there, Sungie. Ready for a fun night?” he asked and Jisung couldn’t hide the big smile that took over his face.

“With you? Always!” he simply told him and then walked over to the other side of the car getting in, as Minho rolled up the window and got back into his driving position.

“That’s what I like to hear. Let’s go.”

When Jisung thought the movie would be a surprise, he thought of any genre besides the one themovie actually was. Now, he wasn’t taht much of a scaredy cat, but horror movies did get to him. Ok, so maybe he was a scaredy cat that was currently hiding his face in Minho’s chest and the older one was simply laughing at the younger’s reactions to the movie and whimpering whenever a loud sound was heard.

“You’re actually the worst, you know?” Jisung whined and Minho ran a hand through his hair at that, letting out a light-hearted chuckle.

“Oh no, I know. Don’t worry.” he affirmed and let out another giggle when the other whimpered again at a loud sound. “Can you blame me for wanting a cute guy holding onto me with his dear life, though?” he asked and that sent a lot of signals to Jisung’s brain, of varying degrees and genres. From confusion to realisation to shyness and to realisation again, as a sahde of red blush crept onto his face.

“Ah, really… You’re too much Lee Minho.” he simply said, but didn’t do any movement to leave the older’s embrace.

A comfortable silence fell over them, as Minho’s eyes were fixed on the screen, as the movie was approaching to an end. There was a question hanging around in the air, but it seemed like neither of them was going to ask it or even think of mentioning it. Jisung was slowly growing frustrated with it though.

However, when he least expected it, Minho finally decided to speak up.

“What do you feel, Sungie?”

“I don’t know… But I know that I like this.” Jisung answered and the older boy just let out a quiet hum.

“I also like this. And I like you.”

“Yeah, like me enough to take me on a date to a horror movie. Bloody hell, Minho.”

“I’m a gentleman.”

They both started laughing and Jisung finally pulled away from Minho’s embrace after the laughter died down. They both looked in each other’s eyes as the tension from earlier dispersed long ago.

“Can I...?” Minho asked and before he could even finish the answer, Jisung immediately cut him off.

“Yes.” and leaned in, meeting Minho in the middle and their lips connected slowly, sending electrifying signals of happines to their brains, as the sweetness of each other hit. The older one pulled Jisung closer, a hand on one of his cheeks and the other making its way to one of the younger’s hands, interlacing their fingers together.

Jisung definitely liked this and Minho.
