Broken Heart

Summary:

Luffy made it happen. He fulfilled his dream and yet, he remained with a blank stare, a constant nagging feeling in his chest, and his heart was broken. The young man, barely twenty years old, kept his straw hat pressed to his chest. Then Rayleigh understood immediately.

Notes:

Hi, welcome! This fanfic came to me at some point in my life and I needed to write it.

In this fanfiction, Luffy becomes the King of pirates, talks to Rayleigh and expresses his suffering to him.

English is not my first language, so you may see some mistakes. Sorry for that... I hope you enjoy the reading!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Three days to be precise. Exactly three days after the straw hat crew found the One Piece and celebrated their long-awaited triumph with great vigor, news spread around the world. Yes well, the news of the emergence of a new pirate king had shocked the world. Since Luffy's crew began to boom, defeating great and imposing enemies, many people bet on the young man, proclaiming him the next Pirate King. Others did not believe so much in the boy's potential. But the news made a big impression. However, three days after the mention of the new Pirate King, another piece of news shook humanity.

News that no one, especially the straw hat crew, were unprepared for. It was around 2 o'clock in the afternoon, when a messenger bird was passing close to the Sunny, which had a rather cheerful and contagious aura. Each of the crew members were chatting or laughing, still happy for everyone to have fulfilled their dreams, allowing themselves to fleetingly recall all the traveling they had gone through. It was Usopp who noticed the bird. As the navigator was closer to the bird, he spoke to her to get her attention.

"Oi, Nami! It's a messenger bird!" The shooter shouted back, excitedly, pointing at the bird with his index finger, and thinking of the incredible news that must be hovering over them. Nami set aside on the floor the drink Sanji had prepared for her a while ago, and walked over to the bird. She paid him and took the newspaper in her hands.

"Let's see what news we have." Commented the woman. The others approached curious to see the new news, but after a few minutes the navigator's face paled. "It can't be..." She covered her mouth with one of her hands.

"What's wrong, Nami-san?" Inquired the cook, worried about her reaction. Unable to articulate anything, Nami held up the newspaper for everyone to read. Within seconds, everyone seconded her reaction, looking pale and worried.

"This doesn't bode well." The swordsman hastened to say. "Luffy won't stay quiet."

As if he had called out to him, the little captain ran past.

"Guys! Come take a look at this! Chopper and I just caught a very rare fish. Sanji, I want you to cook it!"

The boy continued on his way, but Zoro's neutral voice stopped him from continuing.

"Luffy!" The boy stopped. He noticed that his friends remained serious around Nami, who curiously held a newspaper in her hands.

He cocked his head to the side, curious. "Are you guys ok? Is something wrong?"

"You should read this..." Nami held out the newspaper to him, fearfully. He accepted it, puzzled by her attitude, everyone's attitude. He wasn't one to read, but he skimmed through it.

News.

News.

Ah, that was about them!

Nothing interesting.

More news...

He stopped reading.

The brunet had to blink several times, he wasn't one to read the news, informing him of the news was the job of his navigator or anyone else who liked to read that gray paper. But what the hell were his eyes reading and why did he tense up so much?

New World - News

Akagami no Shanks and Marshall D. Teach reunited in the New World?!

A few weeks ago before the emergence of the new Pirate King, Monkey D. Luffy, movements were seen on the part of the Akagami pirates. After that, no trace of them was read again. Now, three days after the new Pirate King was appointed, in other words, today morning, the whereabouts of The Red Force were detected on Blue Island, a very visited place. And as if that wasn't enough, Blackbeard's pirates arrive on the scene!

Luffy continued reading, looking at the half-blurred image where he could appreciate not very well what looked like Shanks' ship not so far from Blackbeard's ship. Both captains watching each other intensely, that didn't mean anything good. Luckily for the boy, that island was not far from him.

It seems that both emperors are meeting again to pay off old debts. Without a doubt, the outcome of what happens in this scenario will have a great impact on mankind!

Luffy's crew watched him with concern, but with a glow of conviction. Willing to accept whatever decision he made.

Luffy crumpled the newspaper and tossed it aside. Serious, with a frown, he put on his distinctive hat and faced his companions.

"Guys, let's set sail. We'll stop whatever's going on!"

He had to...no, he had to get there in time. He still had to keep the promise he held with Shanks. Show him what a great pirate he had become and give him back his hat. Besides, Shanks was strong, he would survive.

With this last thought of hope, was allowed to smile, without knowing really what cruel fate was waiting for him.

Notes:

Okay, I must admit that I still don't understand AO3 very well. It took me quite a while to be able to publish the chapter.

Originally I wrote this like "One-Shot", but I decided to summarized and published it in four chapters just to publish it here, this will be chapter one...

Thanks for reading!
