My Ken

Summary:

Quick little AU sorta inspired by Kizuna. Imagine Daisuke and Ken are young adults living in NY, and Daisuke works at a restaurant, Ken visits and Dai's coworkers flirt with Ken. He does not like that one bit.

Notes:

I started this for the last day of the Daiken week 2021, but was late to finish it.

It's cute and short. My jam for these two lovely boys.

Work Text:

Daisuke liked working at the japanese restaurant. It wasn't exactly authentic, but the owners truly did appreciate japanese culture and more importantly, japanese food. He was hired as a dishwasher, but quickly moved up to a sous chef. He felt like his boss respected him and valued his opinion on the menu and other aspects of the restaurant. It wasn't something Daisuke was completely used to and he absolutely beamed while at work because of it. The restaurant became one of his very favorite places in New York pretty quickly. He'd been begging Ken to visit ever since he started.

One afternoon Daisuke was chopping vegetables during their typical lull between lunch and dinner when the waitress came running into the kitchen. She was obviously excited about something, bouncing on her heels as she spoke to the girl washing pans.

The girls loved to fawn over any customers they thought attractive. Tonight was no different. The two girls snuck up to the ticket window and peeked out at the dining room. Both girls vocally fawning over a solo diner who came in ten minutes ago. Daisuke liked both girls, yet always worried the customers would hear them. They were not subtle, even by Daisuke's standards.

Phrases like, 'so hot', 'look at those eyes!', 'and he was so polite', 'oh so cute', were tossed shamelessly between the two of them.

Daisuke kept to his job for the most part until the waitress returned with the customer's order. Daisuke looked at the ticket and smiled wide. This particular type of ramen was one that Ken loved. Daisuke actually suggested the dish to the menu because it was delicious and he had a lot of experience making it for his boyfriend.

As he started the prep for the dish, the girls continued to oggle. Their comments continued, at one point one of them dared the other to ask the guy out. They giggled to themselves as they swapped ideal dates they would enjoy with him.

Daisuke started to cross the kitchen to reach the stovetop. As he did he couldn't stop his curiosity from wanting to see this fella that his coworkers found so captivating. As he glanced out into the dining room he could only see half of the diner's face from the angle. Still, Daisuke recognized that face instantly.

That wasn't some random attractive guy.

It was his attractive guy. It was Ken.

Daisuke was suddenly very very upset.

"Have you seen him smile? Oh I just want to kiss him!" A feminine voice called out next to him.

Daisuke felt a fire blaze inside him. No body was allowed to talk about Ken like that in front of him. They didn't know him like he did. They didn't share the connection with Ken that he did. They certainly didn't get to kiss him!

Always the one to react with his heart before his brain, Daisuke marched out into the dining room. He knew the girls were watching as he went straight up to Ken. Daisuke smiled wide as he immediately tipped Ken's face up to look at him as he leaned over enough to kiss the man before him squarely on the mouth.

Ken squeaked in surprise as Daisuke kissed him. "Daisuke!" He hissed as he pulled away, only to blush at the look in Daisuke's eyes. He was so intense, like he was facing off against a dark digimon and he was certain he would be victorious. "Dai?" He asked much quieter.

"Thanks for visiting babe!" Daisuke responded loudly, enough for the kitchen to hear.

Ken raised an eyebrow, knowing his boyfriend didn't usually use that pet name. Then he heard the gasping, "Oh My God!" From behind him and it clicked. That waitress was awfully flirtatious with him, and Daisuke loved to show off his affection for Ken any chance he had. That and he had a jealous streak a kilometer long.

"I think they understand now Daisuke." Ken whispered.

Daisuke shook his head, "They better!" He kissed Ken again more gently, smiling as he pulled away this time. "I'll be right back with your meal sir!"

Daisuke hummed to himself while he cooked, ignoring the shocked expressions staring at him while he worked. As he called 'order up' he also added, "Hey ladies, I'm going to take my break as soon as that customer finishes their order. Maybe walk him home. Okay?"

"O..kay," They muttered in unison.

Daisuke was having a great day.
