Work Text:
"Hurry up! You're taking too long, slowpoke!" You shout to your friend who is admiring the many flowers amongst the tall grass.
Your friend snaps out of their staring and rushes to catch up to you.
"Sorry, y'know I- ah I just love flowers, okay?" You snort, patting their back.
"Of course, you think I've spent these three school years stuck with you and never noticed?"
Chuckling he pushes you a little.
Stumbling a little, you laugh, preparing your hands for a tackle.
"Oh yeah? You think I won't fight back, huh? Well think again!" You yell, and dash to tackle down your friend.
"Wha- Wai-" He shouts before your arms wrap around their back.
And you both start to fall.
Your smile falls, and he tenses up. Seeing the ground below coming up closer, you shut your eyes and hold on tighter to your friend.
"Oh shi-"
You both tumble off the dirt road, into the tall grass that makes you feel itchy all over. "Ow- shit!" You both shout with each bump and each move. Still holding on to each other.
Finally when you land somewhere, and both your bodies stay still. You open your eyes.
Your friend smacks your shoulder with an annoyed frown. "Hey! We could've gotten hurt y'know? Now we're both covered in dirt and dust!"
Getting up, you pat the dirt off your shorts, shirt and hair as best you could.
Sticking out your tongue at him, you pat their shirt too, as he also stands up with a huff.
"Weeell, it's not like I wanted to roll down a tiny hill either, but here we are- Wait.."
"..What is that?"
There's a brown.. block that stands out among the pale yellow of the grass.
Your friend turns to where you're staring at, so you point and walk closer to it.
"Do you see it? It's brown, and.. looks like a block?" Your friend stares at the direction for a good few seconds before gasping.
"Ooh! I see it, should we go check it out?" At your friends question you laugh. "Of course, what's an adventure without mystery?" You grab your friend's hand and start to walk towards the area where the brown mystery block is.
Well..
You both find a random old looking jukebox covered in vines and tall grass.
You also spot a music disc covered in dirt right next to it on the ground, you pick up the dirty disc, turning to your friend.
"Should I put it in the juke box?"
Your friend mutters a- "I dun'o.." -shrugging. "It looks old so it may not work, but we can try." So you put in the disc and as it lowers into the jukebox..
Nothing happens.
You and your friend wait a few more seconds. Still nothing.
Sighing, you open your mouth to tell your friend it isn't-
Suddenly the music box plays music, at first a little wonky and distorted, then it starts evening out, you think it sounds calming.
Your friend and you stare in surprise for a few seconds before sitting down in the grass. Listening to the peaceful beat of the song.
You turn to your friend with a large smile.
"Hey what if we came here often to just chill and listen, huh Tubs?"
Tubbo smiles back, and nudges Tommy's shoulder with his hand, who swats at him in return.
"Yeah big man, the music sounds nice, oddly familiar too.."
"Yeah, it's sounds so.. familiar for some reason. Weird."
_____
"The discs don't matter Tommy! Why can you not see that!?"
"Th- The discs- The discs were worth more than you ever were!"
______
"T-Tommy.." Tubbo, his friend even after all that's happened, all the fighting and bloodshed.
"T-" He coughs up blood, wiping it from his mouth, the flimsy wooden sword embedded in his chest, near his slowing heart is nothing to him. He stares at the sunrise from the ground before whispering.
"Tubs.." Tubbo steps closer before falling to his knees, Tommy stares into Tubbo's dark blue eyes that fill with tears. Tommy coughs up more blood, the sword in his chest flaring with endless pain with every cough and move.
"Tommy, this.. this is it- this is the end.." Tubbo whispers, tears finally falling, his too skinny body shaking, Tommy knows if he saw underneath Tubbo's dirty shirt, all he'd see is Tubbo's ribs.
Tommy smiles at Tubbo, reaching a shaky hand to Tubbo's hand. "Big T, everything is going to be okay. Even if it's the end, we always survive the end, re- remember?"
Tubbo sobs, grabbing on to his hand with what little strength he has left from starving.
Tubbo slowly reaches into his inventory.
Tommy watches as one of his favorite discs is brought out, he stares in shock, breathe caught in his throat. Tubbo laughs, voice hoarse as he whispers.
"I finally understand why you fought so hard for these discs Tommy, I get it now."
Tommy breaks, tears blurring his vision, and when he tries to breathe to calm down, he's reminded that cruel death is approaching. He notices how Tubbo's body shakes and how tired Tubbo seems just to keep fuctioning.
"I- I know Tubs, I know."
Their disc lays there, untouched, for decades until now.
