Chapter Text

It was on the way home from school. Eula and Amber decided to rest for a bit on the swings in the playground near their neighbourhood. The playground was peaceful; it was that time of the year where it was too cold to play outside. The sun was painted in prettt shades of color, matching Eula's sunset eyes.

it's the perfect time, Amber had decided.

For the longest time, she has had a crush on her childhood friend (though, it was mostly one-sided and they only became official friends in the 5th grade) since the start of the year. Actually, it was probably longer but she can only remember but that was when she realized it. So she turned to Eula beside her, brimming with determination.

"Eula" Amber grips the swing chains hard. Eula turns to look at her, a small dot of cream still on her face form the crepe she was eating and she looked absolutely cute, how can someone be so graceful and ye- ok Amber, not now "Umm... I-I like you"

"I like you too" Eula simply says. Amber's eyes widened, her pulse racing fast "you're the first person to ever be nice to me, something that I will have vengeance for, just you wait!" Eula exclaims, pointing her crepe at Amber with a mock angry look. Amber didn't know what to say, she felt pure happiness, she couldn't believe that Eula actually liked he-

"We've been friends for years. Honestly, stuff like that should go without saying" Eula says and then goes back to her crepe. Amber looked dumbfounded. Well, it is Eula after all, she can be a bit dense when it comes to these sort of things. Amber turned her face back on to serious mode and tried again.

"No, I meant that I like you as more than a friend"

"Well yeah, of course you like me as more than a friend. we are mortal enemies after all, our relationship goes far deeper than those of foes" Eula said, her hand on her chest; her usual pose when she declares someone an 'enemy'. Amber, again, looks dumbfounded. She was about to correct her when suddenly, Eula's phone rang.

"Forgive me, it's my mother. She's wondering where I am" Eula stood up, finishing her crepe "I have to go now, or else she'll ban you from the house entirely, declaring you a bad influence."

"Y-yeah, see you tomorrow!" Amber waved, trying to keep the disappointment in her voice. Eula picked up her bag and left, waving behind her as she gracefully ran towards her house. Amber sighed and picked up her own bag which had baron bunny hanging from the side of it.

Baron bunny was a gift from Eula last year, saying it was extra strong and won't break like all the others. Amber had been taking extra care of it since.

Oh well, she can try confessing again tomorrow

"Alright, when's the wedding?" it was early in the morning when Lumine walked into the classroom, anxious to hear about her best friend's progress on her love life.

Amber sighed and let her head drop onto the desk, producing a soft thud. Lumine winced and sat down her bag on the desk next to Amber.

"Yikes, and here I thought she was hopelessly in love with you" Lumine was popular in both the Mondstadt and Liyue campuses. She basically knows everything that's going on Teyvat Academy, so when she found out that her first and best friend was in trouble, she had to know every detail.

"I mean, I didn't get rejected" Amber scratches the back of her neck "...I think"

"What do you mean you think?"

"She thought I was saying I love you as a friend"

Lumine looked at her dead-panned. A few seconds past before she burst into giggles.

"Yeah no, Eula's smart, there's no way in hell that she'd pull that cliche" Lumine said in-between giggles, before regaining composure and facing Amber again "alright, tell me what actually happened"

"No, I'm being serious" Lumine stared at her for a few seconds, her expression unreadable.

"It's not even the first time this happened" Amber said, resting her head on her hand. Lumine looked surprised at this. This was new. "Last month, I gave her a poem of me confessing my 'undying love' for her or whatever poetic stuff people put in those. It took me all week to make, only for her to look at it, smile, and say 'I too, consider you a precious friend'"

"...Where is she? I'll smack some sense into her" she said, looking around the room for light blue-hair

"She's at a Knights of Favonius meeting" Amber said, looking out the window to the building that the meeting is taking place in "also, please don't smack her"

the Knights of Favonius is a special club that the school organized. They're responsible for keeping the peace by certain activities like monitoring the halls, doing routine inspection, and other stuff that the student council is too busy to do.

"Wait... Aren't you part of that?" Lumine said, holding back her laughter as the realization dawned upon Amber. Suddenly, she stood up, slamming her hands on the desk before breaking into a run.

"You better hurry up before Jean scolds you again" Lumine shouts after her, shaking her head.

Let's hope Jean lets this one slide

So Jean did not let it slide.

As punishment, she has to help out in the library. It wasn't a hard task, but she was still bummed out that she was missed her chance to confess.

Well, it's not like she had a plan anyway.

After tending to the last student in line, she sighed hard. Lisa, who was by her side reading a book heard this and put down her book, her face growing concerned.

"Amber sweetie, what's wrong?"

"There's this... Girl that I like and she doesn't seem to get my feelings for her" Amber said, being too shy to say Eula's name.

"Well, Eula does seem like a dense person" Amber almost dropped the book she was holding "oh come on, it isn't really a secret that you like her" Lisa said before winking.

"If it's that obvious, then how is she not getting it?" Amber said, her face as red as the ribbon on her head

"You should've seen Jean before we got together. I literally kissed her on the lips and she had the audacity to say 'I suppose kissing between friends is normal in some cultures'" She said, looking irritated as she recalled that cursed moment. Amber let out a laugh before holding it back as she got some glares from students studying.

"What would you even do in that case?"

"I was so mad that time that I grabbed her by her shoulders and told her that I..." Lisa then came closer to Amber's ear, whispering the kind of stuff that made Amber's face grow even redder than her jacket.

"I... I don't think I can ever tell her that" Amber said, her face as red as a tomato. Maybe asking Lisa was a mistake

"Just give it time. Types like Jean and Eula tend to be a bit sheltered. For starters, you could take her on a romantic date" Amber perked up, wondering why she didn't think of that.

"That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for hearing me out" Amber beamed

"No problem dear. I couldn't stand to see a cute face like yours looking so down"

The door opened and in walked Jean, holding two lunch boxes. Lisa smiled as the other girl approached the table.

"What brings you here Jeanie? I thought you were busy right now" Lisa said, a playful smirk on her face

"Well, I was but you didn't come and..." Jean started to blush, her words trailing off

"And?~" Lisa said, teasing the poor girl even more

"I missed you" Jean finally said quietly

"I didn't quite catch that darling~"

Jean slammed the lunchboxes on the desk, her face beet red

"Alright, alright I was just teasing you" Lisa said, reaching over the desk to place a kiss on Jean's cheek.

Amber watched all of this, silently promising that her and Eula would never be as nauseatingly sweet and flirty as these two.

And so, here we are now in Amber's bedroom. Her floor was scattered with clothes next to a backpack containing everything she needed for the date.

"Hmmm...." Amber muttered, her eyebrows furrowed. She had asked out Eula to go out with her yesterday, and she had to make sure it goes perfect.

She went to Kaeya yesterday to ask for date ideas, and let's just say that that was a big mistake. His boyfriend Albedo, on the otherhand had some good ideas. Today she was taking Eula hiking. Something that they've always done since they were kids. She plans to have a picnic with her and paint the beautiful scenery in front of them.

So she says but she barely knows how to paint. Oh well, it's not about the activity, it's about who she's doing it with.

Amber decided to go with her usual red hoodie and shorts. Not like she had that many options in the first place. She put on her signature ribbon and with one final text to Eula, she picked up her backpack and went on her way
