Chapter Text
Bakugou Katsuki was a lot of things.
He was the holder of a powerful quirk, he was the leader of the Bakusquad (whether he liked it or not), he was a student at U.A. And, most importantly, he was Midoriya Izuku’s childhood ‘friend.’
Notice the quotation marks.
Now, Bakugou was not used to consequences or the word no. In his world, the two simply didn’t exist. If someone said no, they didn’t really mean it. If someone gave him consequences, it was unfair and he was above that.
This mindset was shaped from the horrible school that was Aldera. They catered to his behaviors, encouraged them even. He was never told no, and his record was kept squeaky clean despite the fact that it should be literal trash by all the marks he was supposed to get.
Destroying school property, starting fights, assault, destruction of another's property, and bullying.
They never did anything about it though, because the target of these behaviors was always the weak, quirkless kid. The one who would never amount to anything. The one who was worth less than dirt.
Maybe if the target was someone with a quirk, or a more powerful quirk, the teachers would’ve intervened. Maybe they would’ve marked his record and cracked down on his behavior. Even then it was unlikely, because Bakugou Katsuki was the holder of a powerful quirk, so he needed to be encouraged.
U.A. Did nothing to curb this behavior.
Oh sure, they would scold him (sometimes) and his homeroom teacher would slightly reprimand him, but other than that, U.A. Was just as complacent in letting Bakugou get away with his behavior.
Sent another student to the infirmary after directly defying a teacher's orders? Not even a slap on the wrist.
Showed violent tendencies and went out of his way to hurt other competitors? Chain em’ up so it will be easier to put the medal on him. Other than that, who cares?
Assaulted another student on a final exam when the other was trying to cooperate? Obviously it’s both of their faults, they need to get over their ‘rivalry.’
Has talked about killing fellow students multiple times and has threatened them more than any other villain? Whatever.
U.A. Let him get away with everything, just like Aldera. And because of that, they were under fire. News outlets paid more attention and picked apart his violent behavior. They pointed out the violence he displayed in the sports festival, and the grizzly state he normally left his competitors in. And how he showed sadistic glee in beating the snot out of them. The Dorms had done nothing to stop all of the overwhelming criticism.
The problem ran deeper than anyone else knew. Only two people knew the entire truth, the whole story.
Bakugou Katsuki and Midoriya Izuku.
One of which had just recently turned over to the League of Villains’ cause.
Midoriya Izuku’s turn to villainy and his relationship with Bakugou Katsuki was connected. But, only two people really knew that.
But, now there was a third party who suspected it.
Yagi Toshinori, formerly All Might, the #1 Hero and the Symbol of Peace.
Who was now coming to confront Bakugou on this matter and his suspicions.
“Excuse me.” All Might entered the room their hobo-teacher was teaching. “May I please see Bakugou Katsuki?”
The student in question raised an eyebrow. So did their teacher. But, Aizawa only said “sure.”
All Might nodded and beckoned Bakugou to follow him. Bakugou - begrudgingly - got up and walked out of the room, wondering what the former Symbol of Peace wanted with him.
“What is it?” He asked gruffly. While yes, Bakugou did have a foul mouth, he held respect for All Might.
Yagi guessed that wouldn’t last after this conversation.
“I… Wanted to ask you about something.” The former Symbol of Peace said hesitantly.
Bakugou raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”
“What was your relationship with Young Midoriya?”
Bakugou’s face turned to outrage. “Fucking Deku?! You came to ask me about HIM?”
“Answer the question, Young Bakugou.” Yagi said patiently.
Bakugou, although unhappy, answered the question. “We were childhood friends. Bastard wouldn’t stop calling me ‘Kacchan.’ Knew him for his whole life.”
Yagi nodded. “And was there anything to suggest a turn to villainy? Any reason he would’ve left his dream of being a hero?”
Bakugou scoffed. “Of course not. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if that fucker was a villain all along and was just playing the long game. He probably outed our location to those damn villains. Bastard. When I get my hands on him-”
Toshinori cut Bakugou off before he could get into his (no doubt very graphic) fantasy of revenge. “Are you sure? Because, I must admit it’s weird you call him Deku if you were friends.”
Bakugou scoffed. “We weren’t always friends. We stopped being friends when we were four. Fucker kept trying to be mine, but I shut him down every time. Glad I did. Bastard…”
Toshinori frowned. This did not sound good.
“Bakugou…” Toshinori was about to make a serious accusation, one he felt bad for making. But, as much as he hated All for One, he had a point about how it was odd that Bakugou called Young Midoriya ‘Deku.’ And Yagi wasn’t completely an idiot. He noticed how Midoriya flinched whenever someone made contact with him, and how his eyes darted around to all the possible exits when Bakugou was around. “...Did you... bully young Midoriya before you came here?”
Bakugou reared back like someone had struck him. “Bully? The fuck? NO! I was just putting that damn Bastard in his place every time he tried to be more than a quirkless weakling.”
That sounds a lot like bullying. “And how exactly did you ‘put him in his place?’.”
Bakugou hesitated. “...Stuff.” Is all he said.
“Bakugou.” All Might said warningly.
Bakugou growled. “Fuckin’ fine. Sometimes I’d use my quirk on him to get him to shut up. Most of the time when I entered a room he would, but he still got on my damn nerves. Some of the extras at my school would destroy his stuff or some shit, but it was never anything that Deku didn’t deserve.”
Toshinori felt sick. That was the definition of bullying. Wait, no, it wasn’t even bullying, it was abuse. And the teachers at U.A. Had mistaken that abuse for rivalry. They were supposed to be Pro Heroes, damnit! How could they have mistaken an unhealthy relationship for just ‘boys being boys’?
He sucked in a breath. “Young Bakugou… I believe you might have been a key player in Young Midoriya’s turn to the darkside.”
Bakugou growled and threw his fist into the wall beside them. “Oh, I know. ” He hissed.
Toshinori slightly perked up at that. Maybe Young Bakugou realized his mistakes and would be willing to help fix it! “You do?” He asked, trying to keep any doubt or suspicion out of his voice.
“Yeah. If I had paid more attention to Deku, I could’ve kept him in his place.”
Toshinori froze. That… Wasn’t what he was expecting. “What??” Disbelief was evident in his voice.
“You heard me.” Bakugou snapped. “If I had kept an eye on Deku, I could’ve beaten his damn will to be a villain right out of him.”
Toshinori felt sick. “Bakugou… What you did to Midoriya was abuse. I believe it may be partially your fault he left because he just couldn’t take it anymore.”
Bakugou’s head snapped up at that. “WHAT?! I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING THAT THAT DAMN NERD DIDN’T DESERVE! IF HE LEFT BECAUSE HE WAS THAT MUCH OF A WUSS, THEN HE DIDN'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME A HERO ANYWAY!”
“He has SCARS Bakugou!” Toshinori raised his voice, which actually caught Bakugou off guard. “He has TRAUMA! He FLINCHES when people try to touch him! He’s scared whenever you enter a room!”
Bakugou was silent before scoffing. “So? It’s his fault anyway.”
Yagi was about to say some unsavory things that shouldn’t be said to a child when a cold voice broke out from behind them.
“Bakugou Katsuki.” It was Aizawa.
Bakugou and Toshinori looked to see the furious face of Aizawa, and the horrified, shocked, and outright infuriated in Young Todoroki’s case (which was very unnerving to see. Young Todoroki normally wore a stoic and indifferent expression in almost any situation.)
“You have some explaining to do.”
And they all had some rethinking to do when it came to their perception of Young Bakugou and Young Midoriya’s relationship.
They all failed him. And now he’s gone.
