The Next Generation

Summary:

The race had just ended. It was an unexpected turn of events. Nobody had ever beaten Adam before. You could see in his disheartened eyes the shock and disbelief that came over him. He stormed off, as he was mad at himself. I could longer see him, the rays of light were getting so faint and scarce. So many questions filled my mind. Would he ever race again? Was this too embarrassing for him? What would happen to Adam’s reputation? Little did we know this was the last time anybody would ever hear his name again.

The shouts and the screams were blasting into my eyes. The colourful lights suddenly beamed down on ‘Rebel’, a mystery girl.

Chapter Text

Chapter one

The race had just ended. It was an unexpected turn of events. Nobody had ever beaten Adam before. You could see in his disheartened eyes the shock and disbelief that came over him. He was truly ashamed of himself. Would he ever be able to recover from this, nobody thought so. Though in the moment, the crowd was going wild, as the bright colourful lights beamed on Langa in his succession of victory. He waved to the audience and took a proud bow. Shortly after, Reki, accompanied by Miya ran towards the blue-haired boy. They all hugged and cheered for their friend. Cherry and Joe soon followed. However, if the audience had taken one moment to look away from the proud winner, you could see in the depths of the shadows, Adam, desolate and alone after his loss in the race. He had his coffin shaped skateboard by his side and his masquerade mask gently placed in his hands.

She wore a velvet black cape, as her dark braided hair was covered by the hood. Her emerald green eyes stood out the moment you glanced at her. Though, you couldn’t quite exactly make out her entire face, as she wore a skeleton designed mask covering half of it. And her skin was ever so fair and pale. As I got in my seat, waiting patiently, I could tell that the race was soon about to begin, as everyone was already cheering for Rebel’s opponent, a well known skater named Renge. He had been skating ever since he was young. He performs moves that require a lot of training and skill. Those are what usually guarantee his win. However, nobody knew how well this mysterious girl could skate, this was certainly her first time racing here. I could hear many conversations coming from the audience regarding her:

‘‘How good is she?’’ asked a black-haired, tall and skinny man.

‘‘Does she really stand a chance against Renge? After all, his parents are high ranked skaters.’’ asked another crowd member.

Nobody had ever seen her skate before. Nobody knew what the outcome of the race would be. Suddenly,  Renge submerges from the shadows, holding his iconic skateboard. The crowd started cheering for him, as they were chanting his name. He gave a big smile and ran over and acquainted himself with his opponent. They then wished each other good luck. Rebel took her skeleton inspired skateboard and positioned it on the ground. She put her foot in the middle of it, ready to begin the race. A woman jumped down from the benches holding two white flags. She was now in the middle of the track and held them high in the air, as she was about to activate the start signal.

The woman yelled:

‘‘1...2...3… GO!!!’’

The flags with the ‘‘S’’ logo were now drawn to her hips. The race began.
