Chapter Text
Silence fills the smoky war room, as several admirals and captains look over documents on the map piled table. All of their minds were focused on the matter at hand. As the United States was forcefully brought into war, many elements key to the nation's success were still being converted to handle the war. The weight of an entire people was on every American fighting on the frontlines. Shuffling of the files and coughing begin to wear at the late hours as the meeting dragged on. Breaking the silence, one of the captains at the table spoke up about the situation.
"Sir, with all due respects, I don't feel like this is doing anything," he spoke furiously, "Even with this vital intelligence from the Brits, it's the same thing as last week."
In unison with the captain finishing, the head admiral began to speak.
"Captain Sutton, this information is vital for the war in the Atlantic, and even with the Royal Navy capturing an enigma machine earlier this year, has us one step closer to victory."
"Sir, that enigma machine they captured from the U-boat was partially damaged and trying to find another complete model would be impossible. Those Kriegsmarine sailors are hard to convince not to destroy their secret equipment."
"Yes, but with due time our British allies, or even the Free French will stumble upon a complete enigma machine. We need to plan for what is next in this war."
"Plan for what, sir, plan for another kraut U-boat sinking our ships and costing both lives and war material? To let them to continue to blitz across Europe and then into the States?"
"Our boys in R&D are designing ways to hunt them," the head admiral asserted calmly, "Better systems compared to the ones we used in the last war."
"Sir, with all due respect, that could take up more time that we don't have. We may have an ocean as a barrier on both sides, but that can only hold off invaders for so long."
"Captain, unless you can figure out a solution for our problem, better than the scientists, be my guest."
"Sir, I believe that I might have this solution," Captain Sutton responded, "And the boys down at the warehouse might be able to help us."
In a hurry, the head admiral, captain, and an MP enter a parked staff car. The vehicle rushed towards one of the storage warehouses in the dead of night. Opening the gate, they get several workers to lead them to their prize. Illuminated by the warehouse lights and flashlights, the group peers over the marked crate. Its inscription read: Eigentum der Leimweil GmbH. Mit Vorsicht handhaben, zerbrechliches Material: Prototyp-Modell and a seal of the Nazi Party under the company logo. Prying it open with a crowbar, they all look upon the key to win them a war, a maidbot.
"Captain Sutton, is this some kind of joke," berated the head admiral "You tell us you have a solution, but have wasted vital time towards the war effort. I might consider a reassignment and a demotion in rank."
"Head Admiral Hinton, hear me out," retorted Captain Sutton, "This is a piece of German technology we liquidated from Leimweil LtD."
"This explanation better give me a reason to not consider a punishment or give a light one."
"Yes sir," he stammered, "Well, the robot was imported to the states just as the war started, under a neutral flagged ship. Its target destination was for the headquarters of Leimweil LtD as a secretary robot. The Germans there wanted to work with their own instead of the basic models Sterling Robotics produces."
"And this means?"
"It knows the enigma machine well, technically the civilian variant that came first."
"How is that possible, we barely know how it works, even with the British's effort."
"It will tell us by decoding it, but I don't know how we will get the thing to communicate with us."
"Let me guess Sutton, the robot is only capable of speaking German."
"Possibly, so we may need help from the tech wizzes at Sterling."
"Well then, I'll have a call with Sterling Robotics concerning this, and have this sorted out."
"Thank you sir, is that all."
"One final thing, your punishment for almost wasting valuable time, you will go with this robot to Sterling and observe the inspection"
