“I can’t believe you sided with her,” Cristina Yang huffs at Addison Montgomery after Callie Torres vehemently defended Erica Hahn to her, even though Dr. Hahn was treating her like crap all day at work, and was having private parties with her in their shared apartment in the evenings.
“Callie’s a close friend of mine. You’d have done the same for Meredith,” Addison smiles.
“Yeah,” says Cristina. “It still sucks though.”
“The way Hahn is treating you?” says Addison. “Yeah, it does.”
“Thank you,” says Cristina.
“You’re welcome,” says Addison. “Hey,” says Addison softly. “I have umm… A question for you…” says Addison shyly.
Which is rather uncharacteristic of Addison, because she’s not usually shy around people, least of all interns (well, technically, Yang is a second-year resident now, but in Addison’s mind, she’s still very much an intern).
“Sure?” says Cristina curiously.
“How is Meredith doing?” Addison asks Cristina softly, and she takes in Cristina’s surprised look as her own face converts into an empathetic and also compassionate expression.
“She’s doing good-” Cristina says crisply.
“Really?” says Addison, and Cristina can tell that for some reason (she has no idea what the reason could be, nor does she really care all that much), Addison seems very invested in Meredith’s recent wellbeing.
“Well, I mean, she and McDreamy broke up, but they’re still sleeping together, and they’re still fighting with one another, so they’re basically in the same state that they were in when you left Seattle,” Cristina shrugs.
“They’re… They’re not together?” says Addison quietly.
“No-” says Cristina. “Wait are you here to get Derek back, is that what this is?” asks Cristina.
“No,” says Addison honestly. I'm not,” says Addison in a very reigned manner, that Cristina can tell is genuine.
“Okay,” says Cristina, as she asks for one of Addison’s potato chips.
“Okay,” says Addison as she gives Cristina one.
Addison can see the still curious expression on Cristina’s face as she walks away from her, but as much as she’s wondering why Addison could possibly be asking her about Meredith, she seems to have much bigger fish to fry than to continue asking Addison about it, and therefore, she doesn’t.
“Hey, do you want to come over later, after the surgery?” offers Callie.
“Wha- sure,” says Addison, as she re-focuses her energy back to Callie.
“Awesome,” says Callie. “You’ll never believe how clean I’ve been able to make it.”
“Wouldn’t miss it,” says Addison as she notes down Callie’s (and Cristina’s) new address.
Many things have stayed the same since she’s moved to Los Angeles, and yet, there are a few notable differences.
For one, Derek Shepherd seems completely resigned about having split up with Meredith, and has moved on already, with a scrub nurse named Rose.
“Have you ever considered not hurting her!?” Addison glowers at him.
“ She broke up with me ,” says Derek. “At the wedding. And after that…” Derek trails off.
“And after that, you kept sleeping with her!?” says Addison.
“And after that… Wait how did you know about that?” says Derek curiously.
“I have my ways,” says Addison. “And anyway, I told you not to hurt her again. So just don’t, Derek,” says Addison.
“Okay, okay,” says Derek.
“Promise me?” says Addison.
“Promise,” says Derek.
“It’s good to see you,” says Addison, softening.
“You too Addison,” says Derek, nodding.
