Work Text:
The Lemoyne sun beat down on Clemens Point, making a certain camp work-horse regret waking up as he swept the back of his gloved hand across his forehead, wiping away most of the sweat that lay clammy and cook against his skin. He quickly got back to work by bringing down the axe he had in his hand, splitting another log in half.
Arthur had already done his chores that day, including hunting and a bit of shopping with Sadie; leading to a shoot-out, (which was a little too close to camp for Arthur’s liking) but they got back to camp with no law alerted and no wounds.
“All of you...al of you, get to work.” Dutch’s voice echoed through the camp, the women already forgetting their task to listen closely.
“This is fine country, rush country. So, get to work, all of you. We can do well and fine here for a while.” The man paced, his cigar held delicately between finely-ringed fingers. The rest of the gang abandoned their tasks. A crowd hastily forming, all eager to hear Dutch Van Der Linde’s charismatic words.
Arthur himself put down his axe to make his way forward into the shade to stand next to Mary-Beth.
“They will not think we came this way, so get to work! We still need money. Lots of money!”
Arthur sighed S the subject of money, money that they were all bringing, came up. It was always somehow the topic of Dutch’s speeches; no matter how much money went into that donation box.
The outlaw felt someone nudge him. Ignoring Dutch for a moment, he looked to his right, Mary-Beth was smiling up at him, the look of pure joy clear in her eyes. She carefully gestured in front of them, near the edge of their little rally.
Kieran and Bill stood side-by-side, faces pink and smiles evident, even as they try to hide them. Their shoulders are pressed together. Arthur followed Mary-Beth’s pointing finger.
And there, quite well hidden for two idiots obviously in love, were their pinkies locked together.
“Ain’t they sweet? Been too long, I’ve been waiting for this for so long...” Mary-Beth whispered, earning a low chuckle from the outlaws throat.
This was definitely something for this journal.
