Chapter Text

Well there’s a lot going on. That might be the biggest understatement of the century. Let me backtrack on how the hell this mission happened in the first place. Alright so, my name is Xxoshnec. I am a 53rd dimensional being that works for the TSDPA (Time, Space, Dimension Preserving Archives). I was assigned by my boss, The Known, to take the form of a third dimensional human being and somehow prevent Earth from ending, knowing it will end in three months from today which is August 14th, 2021. I suppose I will keep logging in this journal to keep progress on what is going on. I am currently writing this in Leslie’s apartment.

Leslie Sint is my roommate and we live in a moderately sized apartment in Brighton, UK with a cat. Leslie was chosen by the TSDPA to be a representative of this world and is supposedly my mission partner since it’s basically her world. I have no idea why The Known assigned me to be here, but it’s a world that needs saving and it’s my job. Trust me when I say I have no idea, I can think beyond any sentimental being here upon Earth and anything below the 53rd caliber of dimensions.

You might question why my diction is so casual for someone from the 53rd dimension, I suppose it’s so any of you human simpletons who survive this can understand me or I have a ghostwriter. I’ll let you guess.

I look in the mirror once more to fully process my human form. I was female, fair skin, brown hair, green eyes, and late twenties. Yes out of all of the possible combinations and settings I could have picked, I just happened to pick something so basic. I wanted my human form to fit the mundane name I chose which was just Zoe Sanec. It even pains me to physically see it in the given ID I received in my wallet that I spawned with. September 3rd, 1992, I read the birth date. Not that it was going to matter since my ‘birthday’ is after doomsday.

Even with my proper name, it’s physically impossible to pronounce it properly due to how limited human languages are and the speaking structure of humans in general. You expect a high dimensional being to be named Larry? We have to adapt our names to be pronounceable whenever we go to lower dimension missions.

Oh right, back to the mission. Basically, the Earth is ending in three months and it is up to Leslie and I to prevent that. I have no idea why The Known thinks we could do this. It has only been the first day and I still barely know her. Sure I may have gone over every record, word, and characteristics she owned within a matter of a few seconds, but I felt beyond her as the way humans think is so limited.

I looked at Leslie working away at her laptop on the couch across me looking stressed. Leslie was blonde, but the additional stress and age took a toll to the tone of it. She was only in her early thirties and developed sunken eyebags towards her under eye. Her worn out eyes were looking tirelessly through her lenses of her large black glasses. Her world was ending in three months, and I suppose having a sudden roommate slash mission mate didn’t help.
“So….what are you working on?” I asked.

“Researching? I don’t know. It’s just hard to comprehend that my world will end. I just want to know why.”

“Tell me about how you got into the TSDPA.” I wanted to ease her and even though I read her records on how she became a representative, it was still an amusing question to ask every mission mate I had.

“Well it’s not like I exactly applied. No human being would think this type of organization would exist. They just chose me. I still don’t know why they chose me, but I suppose I let it happen. It also pays well.”

She had a serious tone to her voice down to her mannerisms and inflections.

“Do you miss your old job?” I followed up.

“Not really. I was just a boring accountant. This occupation is quite interesting.”

I could imagine. Though I never experienced a human job before, seeing every single possible occupation made me wonder how human society worked. It was such a simple system. Do your job and get to live. I look back to my world and I can’t even explain how things work there. Where do I even start? Man, I digress so easily. I question my competence if I am going to save this world.

“What reasons do you think the world is ending?” I looked directly into Leslie’s eyes, trying to backtrack to the mission.

Leslie sighed, “Well there’s a lot of possible factors and reasons,”

I braced myself for what could be a panic inducing rant.

“Increased carbon emissions, glaciers melting, forest fires, a black hole sucking us up, warfare, coral bleaching, wildlife going extinct, etcetera.”

“What do you humans say whenever something bad happens?”

“Uhhh, damn?” Leslie answered with confusion.

“Right. Damn. By tenfold.”

“Definitely even more than that.”

“Yeah. Well if only The Known could’ve just told us why the world was ending. They’re The Known for a reason.” I said in frustration. It felt so limiting to be a human and so powerless.

“I remembered being recruited and being told that a rule was to not question The Known? I don’t know. I have no comment.” Leslie responded.

“Nah that’s just how the higher dimension beings taunt the lower ones. The TSDPA just happens to have a dimensional hierarchy.”

“Right, but you’re a 53rd dimensional being. Don’t you ever think you’re better than us?” Leslie stared at me through my words, making sure they were clear and unhypocritical.

“I try to be aware of that.” That was all I could say.

What Leslie just said wasn’t wrong. It’s very easy to think you’re better than a lower dimensional being because they don’t think as widely as you do. I was trying to think if humans think they’re better than lines and shapes since they’re single or two dimensional, but that was just weird for a human to think of. Then again the higher dimension you are, the more you look down on. Humans can only look down on two which isn’t even much to look down upon in the first place. It took me some time to just realize that humans look down upon other humans, which was just plain stupid in the first place.

There was an atmosphere of tense silence between the two of us as I spent the last couple of minutes reflecting on Leslie’s words.

“Look, I’m sorry if you felt that way. Being a human working for the TSDPA doesn’t sound easy and I will acknowledge that.” I sincerely apologized.

Leslie looked at me deciding on whether or not to forgive me. For the first time in a while, I felt a sense of intimidation. Despite many people including myself underestimating her, she can keep a stance of her own. Within just a few seconds of processing eye contact, she gave an approving nod and opened her mouth.

“Thank you. Come on, let’s narrow down the reasons on why Earth is ending.”
