Work Text:
The Maiden of Journeys, who also is revered as Mercury, seeks to keep the world ever in motion. To keep all in the tapestry on a journey is her purpose. In that she is much like Luna, discontent with the now, yearning for the then. Unlike Luna, she does this not out of love of strength and growth, for the Maiden of Journeys will send you along the road to your doom as likely as she will lead you to your salvation. All journeys are of equal worth to her, so long as you are in motion.
The Maiden of Serenity, who is also revered as Venus, wishes to enliven the world with love. To tangle every thread of the tapestry in the pattern of love is her purpose. In that she is much like Luna, defined as she is by her love of Gaia. Unlike Luna, she does this not out of a reflection of her own love. Luna's love of Gaia is pure and fulfilling, strengthening them both. The Maiden of Serenity will send you lusting after those you can never have, or tangle you with another with whom you are your worst self just as likely as she will lead you to a happy matrimony. All loves are of equal worth to her, so long as your heart is captured.
The Maiden of War, who is also revered as Mars, sharpens the world with mortal struggle. To have every thread bear arms in mortal combat is her purpose. In that she is much like Luna, red in tooth and claw. Unlike Luna, who bares her fangs in defense of Gaia, she sees no value in peace, and no reason for strife beyond strengthening the tapestry by cutting the weak threads in endless strife. The Maiden of War will have you fight your own sister for no reason at all just as likely as she would have you beat back the circus for Creation to thrive another day.
The Maiden of Secrets, who is also revered as Jupiter, holds dominion over the secrets of the world, and shares them with those who need to know, keeping such knowledge from all others. To have every thread see only what it should see when it should see it, thus weaving the tapestry to the shape whispered by Samsara, is her purpose. In that she is much like Luna, who beckons those to pass beyond the known when the time is right. Unlike Luna, who respects the autonomy of her children and the world itself, Jupiter desires all to dance to the strings of Samsara. The Maiden of Secrets would show you the terror of the Void itself even if it would sap your very will to live just as likely as she would have you learn the secrets of your own Essence if doing so is in accordance with her unknowable plans.
The Maiden of Endings, who is also revered as Saturn, ushers away those whose time has come to make room for the things of the future. Like Luna, she aided the Unconquered Sun in his war against the Primordials. Unlike Luna, she is a static being, surrounded by the dead and their keepers. The Maiden of Endings would kill you even if it hastened the end of Creation itself just as likely as she would slay your enemy. In her mind, she has assigned the year of both deaths.
Pups, this story is in the present because the Maidens are timeless. They entered Creation just as they are now, unchanging, uncaring, with their desires whispered to them by Samsara. They hold nothing and no one sacred. They do not deserve your worship, nor do they ask for it, nor would their actions change were they to receive it. They are too far above the gods you know, too alien to Creation, to hear the pleas of our prayers. Do not trust them, and do not trust their Chosen, who are mere extensions of the Maidens' mad whims. They are bound by paper to beings they cannot comprehend, and thus cannot match, just as we are cursed to live, finding the best way through bad times.
