Work Text:
In the four months that Izuku has been dating Todoroki Shouto, he’s only met one member of his family – and not in a boyfriend context, but in a hero context, before they even started dating. Shouto’s father, Todoroki Enji, is the number one hero after all and Izuku (and Kacchan) did a work study with him in their first year at U.A.
After “finally getting their shit together” as Kacchan had put it, Izuku and Shouto can look back onto four successful months of dating, hero-ing and studying. Izuku has tried to keep himself from pestering Shouto about his family during that time but he can’t help it. The Todorokis are, after all, the most prolific hero family in the nation, maybe in all of Asia. With all six members listed in the top 50 of the Japanese Hero Billboard Chart Izuku sees his in-laws more on TV than he does in real life. Not a high bar given that he hasn’t met any of them except for Endeavour in person at all.
That’s why he tells himself that it’s an absolute valid reaction for his jaw to drop and for his eyes to widen almost painfully when Shouto announces, plain as day, while they’re lounging around in the common room in sweats and faded t-shirts: “I’m meeting my sister for dinner later. Want to join?”
Yes, absolutely reasonable reaction on Izuku’s part. He could have skipped the squawk, but hey. Everyone has flaws.
“Your sister?”, he asks, voice a lot higher and shriller than usually.
Shouto doesn’t pick up on his excitement-distress-apprehension (Izuku doesn’t even know how to put into words what he is thinking and feeling right now) and only nods. “Yeah. She asked to meet you and I figured she’d be the easiest one for you.”
That pulls Izuku out of his stupor and he blinks owlishly. “The easiest? How so?”
Shouto glances up from his phone, face blank as usual. “You’ve seen Dabi, Frostbite and Yukimura on TV.”
Izuku winces slightly. Dabi is fairly infamous among the heroes, and he ranks high on the ‘Heroes that look like Villains’ list too. Frostbite has a temper to behold in fights and Yukimura’s icy behaviour borders on frightening. “I – yeah, but surely their hero personae are different from how they are around family.”
“Not really”, Shouto mutters. “So. it’s the fairest option if you meet Nee-san first.”
Fuyumi. You don’t really hear heroes’ civilian names on the news or in any media, that’s why there are hero names to begin with, but it feels weird to think of the Winter Hero: Avalanche as Todoroki Fuyumi.
“Okay”, Izuku squeaks and curses the break in his voice. He’s aspiring to be the new Symbol of Peace – he can handle meeting his boyfriend’s “tamest” family member.
“Her boyfriend is coming too”, Shouto says and this time, Izuku does drop his phone.
“Ingenium?!”, Izuku shrieks, a little too loud because Iida pops his head into the common room.
“What about my brother?”, he asks and Izuku fumbles.
“Uh, nothing! Just doing, uh, crossword puzzles on my phone, haha, and I thought Ingenium was the answer for one – nevermind, Iida-kun!”
Shouto sinks deeper into the pillows with a sigh. Izuku kicks him in the shin, and he sees the corner of his mouth twitch in response.
“Oh!” Iida lights up. “Send me the link!”
“S-sure”, Izuku says, and Iida leaves again. Izuku drops his head into his hands. “Crossword puzzles?! What am I thinking?!”
“Have fun making one up”, Shouto says, a hint of amusement swinging into his voice. “But yeah, Nee-san and Tensei-san are coming. Are you in?”
Two pro heroes. A Todoroki and Iida, the most prolific hero families in Japan.
‘What am I making a fuss about?!’, Izuku swears at himself. ‘I’ve been sharing a bath with a Todoroki and an Iida since I was 15. I hung out with All Might in middle school. Get a grip, Midoriya Izuku!’
“You shared more than a bath with said Todoroki, too”, Shouto mutters and Izuku realises in horror that his old habit of mumbling out loud returned.
“Oh God”, he groans and pushes his hair out of his face. He’s starting to sweat in panic, he’ll definitely need to hop into the shower before they’re meeting Avalanche and Ingenium.
Shouto puts his phone down on his chest and frowns at Izuku. “Why are you so worried?”
“Why am I – ”, Izuku stops and clears his throat when his voice comes out as a squawk again. “I’m not worried, per se… I- I guess ‘anxious’ is the word? I’m – they’re pro heroes!”
Shouto gives him a blank look. “Izuku. Are you aware that you are in the third year of the hero course at U.A. and have been meeting and teaming up with pro heroes for three years? Not to mention All Might is your dad?”
Izuku rolls his eyes. “All Might is not my dad.”
“I’ll believe it when I see a paternity test.”
“I’ve shown you pictures of my actual dad.”
“You look nothing alike.”
“I have his freckles! And curls! I take after my mum! Not everyone can be a perfect half-half combination”, Izuku mutters.
Shouto pauses, then says: “Thank you.”
Izuku smacks his ankle and Shouto retaliates by nudging his bare knee with an icy cold toe, making Izuku yelp. Shouto smirks the way he usually only does during sparring.
“So what time are we meeting?”, Izuku asks.
“Seven. I already got permission from Aizawa-sensei”, Shouto says. “You don’t need to dress up or anything.”
“Should I wear my hero costume?”
The question is out before Izuku can stop it.
“No?”, Shouto sounds genuinely confused. “It’s a civilian outing, Izuku.”
“R-right”, Izuku mumbles and scratches the back of his neck. “I guess I still think of them as Avalanche and Ingenium.”
“Don’t.”
“Easy for you to say.”
“Yes.”
“Great.”
Shouto nudges him again, this time without freezing his toe. “Hey. Nee-san is cool. Don’t worry.”
Izuku almost points out the pun that Shouto made but adoration grips his heart hard enough that he can only beam at his boyfriend. “I’ll try.”
It works. By the time they arrive at the restaurant – a non-formal kind of place that is completely fine with jeans a button-down – Izuku’s stomach is no longer twisting into knots at the thought of meeting Aval- Todoroki Fuyumi and Iida Tensei. Now he’s so excited he’s almost buzzing. He’d never thought of it as a nice plus of dating Shouto – but he gets to meet so many high-level pro heroes.
“Here you go”, the waitress says and shows them to a still unoccupied table. The sparkle in her eyes tells Izuku that she very well realised who she will be serving tonight.
“Thank you”, Izuku says and sits next to Shouto. The ambience in the restaurant is cosy, there is a soft hum of chatter, not too loud, and soft music playing. “This place is nice.”
“My family came here often”, Shouto says and Izuku doesn’t comment on the use of past tense. He’s learned that it refers to prior to Endeavour’s and Yukimura’s dramatic divorce. Well, it was dramatized by the media. Shouto told him it was only about where Shouto should attend high school. Combined with some previous issues present in most arranged marriages, their fragile relationship broke in the discussion.
“Shouto?”
Izuku is already turning around to greet the newcomers and misses Shouto’s face scrunching up in confusion. He opens his mouth to cheerfully greet Shouto’s sister and brother-in-law, but the words die on his tongue when he looks at no one else but the Cremation Hero: Dabi and the Crumbling Hero: Pentagon.
“Nii-san”, Shouto says and makes a bit of a face. “I didn’t know you were going to be here tonight.”
“It’s date night”, Dabi – Todoroki Touya – says with a shrug and elbows his companion (his date???). “Right, Tenko?”
Shimura Tenko rolls his eyes. “Not like you laid claim to the whole place, Icyhot.”
“We’re in civilian attire”, Shouto says. “No hero names.”
“D-dabi and Pentagon”, Izuku stutters out before he can stop himself, his brain finally having caught up with the fact that there’s two other pro heroes right in front of him. Shouto gives him the side-eye, but Izuku barely notices.
Todoroki Touya looks like someone fused Shouto’s two sides together into one. Snow-white hair that Izuku knows used to be deep red but whitened due to the stress his Quirk put on his body, piercing bright blue eyes. Touya’s face is covered in piercings – three simple studs on the side of his nose, a ring in his bottom lip and two studs on each side of his cheeks. Outside of his bright blue, flaming hero costume he looked like a regular punk but Izuku is smart enough to not voice that thought out loud, even accidentally.
His boyfriend – partner? Date? Izuku hasn’t heard anything about Dabi dating – is also a familiar face on the news. Pentagon specialises in urban rescue, using his Quirk to crumble debris to dust and free victims. In an earthquake-ridden country such as Japan a blessing. Shimura Tenko’s grey hair is kept long enough to hide the scratch marks everyone knows covered his entire neck. His skin looks dry, his lips are obviously chapped – a side effect of his Quirk, as far as Izuku knows. He’s slouching, half his palm and his little, ring and middle fingers are tucked into the black gloves that made it possible for him to grip anything with all five of his fingers without crumbling it to dust.
“Deku, right?”, Touya says. “You’re pretty flashy, aren’t ya?”
“Says the guy who mastered blue fire just to stand out more”, Shimura says dryly and Touya threw him a flat look.
“Oi. Back me up when I’m intimidating my baby brother’s boytoy.”
“Don’t call him that”, Shouto says.
“Don’t get your panties in a twist, Shouto”, Touya says and rolls his shoulders. “You’re so uptight.”
And then, without further ado, he drops into the chair opposite Izuku. Shimura rolls his eyes and sits down opposite Shouto.
“Those are Nee-san’s and Tensei-san’s seats”, Shouto says.
“Oh, Fuyumi and Mufflers are coming?” Touya lights up and Izuku makes a mental note that it wasn’t just his lovey-dovey feelings for Shouto that make it look like his eyes brighten up like fire. Seems to be a family trait. “That’s fun. I think Natsu’s and the parents are out tonight too.”
“Not like they’d all show up at the same place”, Shimura says and lets it happen when Touya pulls him in to plant a wet kiss onto his cheek. “Ugh. Touya.”
Touya smirks almost boyishly and Izuku couldn’t help but smile a little at the action. Shouto just looks unhappy.
“Nii-san, please”, he says. “It’s Izuku’s first time meeting anyone apart from Dad in my family. I wanted it to be Nee-san.”
“To ease the slide into the clusterfuck that’s our family?”, Touya asks, a grin playing on his lips. “Smart thought there, Shouto-kun, sorry that I showed up, I guess. But that’s just how it’s going to be.”
Shouto wilts visibly and Izuku squeezes his thigh under the table in encouragement.
“I don’t mind!”, he says. And it was true – after the initial shock (he had prepared for Avalanche and Ingenium after all, not for Dabi and Pentagon), he quickly adapted to the new situation at hand which was that he now has one of the top combat heroes and easily the most efficient urban rescue hero at his free disposal for pestering and questioning. He was really regretting not bringing his notebook. “It’s nice to meet you, Todoroki-san, Shimura-san.”
Touya pretends to gag. “I’m not our old man, jeez. Call me Dabi or Touya or anything but that, fuck.”
“T-touya-san, then”, Izuku stutters out, remembering Shouto’s earlier ‘No hero names’ that he promptly ignored then. “My name is Midoriya Izuku.”
“I know”, Touya says flippantly. “You sure left an impression at the first year sports festival, Deku.”
“No hero names”, Shouto says again and Touya waves him off.
“Who are you fooling, man? Like your whole appearance isn’t already a dead giveaway and the waiters are giggling over there, they know”, Touya says. Shouto scowls but didn’t argue. “Unlike Fuyumi and Mufflers to be late.”
Shouto makes a pained noise. “I wish you’d stop calling Tensei-san that.”
“It’s cool, we have a deal, he calls me Piercings in return”, Touya says. “Ah, speak of the devil.”
“Shouto, I’m so sorry we’re late – Touya?” Todoroki Fuyumi comes to a stop at the end of the table, overlooking the situation with wide eyes. “Shimura-kun? What’s happening here?”
“The kids interrupted date night is what happened”, Touya says brightly.
“Didn’t think this would be how you finally admit that you and Shimura-kun are dating, but I’ll take it”, Fuyumi says with a sigh and bows lightly, hands folded in front of her. “Midoriya-kun, Shimura-kun, it is nice to officially meet you. Again, in your case, Shimura-kun.”
Shimura bows his head awkwardly, a hand coming up to scratch at his neck.
“Hello!” A dark-blue haired man who looks so strikingly similar to Iida that they have to belong to the same family pops up behind Fuyumi with a sheepish smile. “Iida Tensei. Sorry we’re late, again. Stuck in traffic. And you know how anal the Commission is about Quirk usage outside of missions for pro heroes.”
Both Shouto and Izuku wince a little. Yes, they had made that experience before. Quite unpleasant.
A waitress comes over, eyes widening at the family reunion happening. “I – should I bring another table?”
“That would be lovely. Sorry for the trouble”, Fuyumi says and bows again.
She looks surprisingly ordinary out of her hero costume; she gives off the air of a school teacher with her hair pulled into a simple ponytail and her rectangular black glasses. Tensei doesn’t look like he could be a hero either – if their faces weren’t on the news every other day, you’d think they were just an ordinary college couple out on a date.
“I-it’s very nice to meet you too”, Izuku squeaks out and he hears Touya snicker.
The waitress and a colleague of hers carry another table over and push them together, quickly setting it up. Fuyumi thanks them and sits. Tensei just rolls up to the table.
“Have you ordered yet?”, he asks.
“I think the staff is too scared”, Shouto says.
“All of you look pretty scary together”, Fuyumi says and quickly grabs Izuku by the arm. “Not you, of course, Midoriya-kun!”
Izuku rubs the back of his neck with strained laughter. “Ah – don’t worry, Fuyumi-san.”
He freezes. He just referred to her by her given name without asking for permission. Oh God. “T-todoroki-san! I meant Todoroki-san! My apologies!”
Fuyumi laughs. “It’s all good, Midoriya-kun. I think it’s best if you refer to us by our given names, to avoid confusion.”
“Confusion with who”, Touya says dryly. “I never reacted to ‘Todoroki-san’.”
“You still do”, Shimura says and Touya shoots him a betrayed look. Shimura only shrugs and ties his hair back with a hairband. “Are we expecting – ”
“Are y’all having a family dinner without me?”
Izuku feels faint when he lays eyes upon who is unmistakably the second Todoroki son, Todoroki Natsuo, the Icicle Hero: Frostbite, accompanied by no one else but Usagiyama Rumi, the Rabbit Hero: Miruko.
“Natsu-nii”, Shouto says, sounding just as faint as Izuku feels. “Miruko-san.”
“If it ain’t little Shouto!”, Miruko announces loud as always. A few patrons turn their heads. “And hey, you’re the self-destructive kid from the Sports Festival two years ago, right? Deku?”
Izuku rubs the back of his neck. “I, uh, don’t do that anymore actually. But yes, I’m Midoriya Izuku, the hero Deku.”
“Pleased to meetcha”, Miruko says and drops into the chair opposite Fuyumi. “Yo, Fuyumi, looks like it’s just us supplying the oestrogen here again, huh?”
Fuyumi laughs. “Unless Mother decides to show up, yes.”
“Don’t jinx it”, Touya says. “It’s bad enough all of you showed up.”
Shouto gives his oldest brother the stink-eye. “You were the one who sat here uninvited. I was supposed to meet with Nee-san and Tensei-san only.”
“Ouch, playing favourites”, Natsuo says and sits next to Miruko. The cluster of waitresses and waiters gets bigger by the second. Izuku briefly wonders if any of the other patrons have received service yet.
But that thought barely takes up a second. Izuku’s brain is currently still trying to comprehend that he is sat at the same table as six pro heroes. And Miruko is the number five hero. Number five. Nationwide. Sure, Dabi scratches at the top 10 ranked 12, and Avalanche and Frostbite operate in the twenties, and Yukimura is number 18 right now – but number five? That was a whole different league.
“Let’s hope Father didn’t have the same idea as us”, Natsuo says. “I think it’s date night for him and Hawks too.”
“Your dad is dating Hawks?!”, Izuku whisper-shouts to Shouto, who just shrugs.
“Seven months. It’s not public yet.”
Izuku really wishes he brought his notebook.
Finally, one of the waitresses dares to come over, her colleagues giggling behind the counter.
“Good evening”, she says, eyes roaming rapidly, taking in all the faces. “Welcome to Keyaki Cuisine. May I take your orders for drinks?”
“At the rate this is going, vodka on the rocks for me”, Touya mutters.
The waitress hesitates. “C-can I see your ID for that, sir? I apologise, it’s restaurant policy – ”
Touya narrows his eyes at her. “You know who I am, you know how old I am. C’mon. Cut it out.”
“Touya!”, Fuyumi snaps. “Will you be nice? Please excuse him, miss!”
The waitress fumbles a little with her notepad. “V-vodka on the rocks for D- you, sir.”
Tensei gives her an encouraging. “Refer to us by hero names if it makes it easier on you.”
Shouto wilts at his ‘no hero names’ policy dying once and for all for tonight.
The waitress looks relieved. “Thank you, Ingenium-san. I will just go around. Vodka on the rocks for Dabi-san, and for you, Pentagon-san?”
“Diet Cola, please”, Shimura says. “Someone has to drive.”
Touya rolls his eyes at the comment.
“And for you, Shouto-san?”
“Japanese green tea.”
“Deku-san?”
Izuku snaps out of his reverie and fumbles to open the menu for the first time tonight. He says the first thing he sees. “Uh, a, uh Chardonnay?”
The waitress pauses and bows. “Apologies, Deku-san. We do not sell alcoholic beverages to minors.”
Izuku’s face heats up rapidly. Oh God. How embarrassing. “A… a normal Cola for me, then.”
“Right away, Deku-san. Avalanche-san?”
“I would take that Rosé at the top, please”, Fuyumi says.
“Just carbonated water for me”, Tensei says.
“I’ll take a Guinness”, Miruko says. Natsuo next to her holds up a finger. “Two Guinness.”
“Right away”, the waitress says, bows, and hurries back.
Silence falls over the table and Izuku starts to sweat. This whole affair was supposed to be for him to meet Fuyumi, but now he was faced with all of the Todoroki siblings plus their partners instead. Might as well add Endeavour and Yukimura and make it the full deal, huh?
“Hey”, Shimura says in that even, velvet voice that probably works wonders with the trapped civilians he helped save. “Not to make this a full family reunion, but isn’t that your mum over there?”
The speed at which the Todoroki siblings turn to look out the window Shimura jabbed his thumb at was faster than the Iida family could ever hope to be.
“Oh Lord”, Fuyumi whispers and perfectly voices what Izuku is thinking.
Because, yes, in fact, that is the Arctic Hero: Yukimura, also known as Himura Rei, former wife of Todoroki Enji and mother of Todoroki Touya, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shouto right outside the restaurant. Accompanied by no one else but her fiancé. Izuku wonders if he is dreaming all this because it is too surreal that Yukimura and Gang Orca show up in combination with the other Todoroki siblings.
“Oh God, she’s coming in”, Natsuo says.
Touya lights up, grinning like a maniac. “I’m gonna text Father.”
“No!”, all three other Todorokis yell and before Izuku can even blink, people are reaching and falling over the table trying to snatch Touya’s phone from his hands. Miruko just laughs heartily and Tensei views the events with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
“Oi”, Shimura speaks up when Shouto knocks into him. “Can you quit it?”
“Can your boyfriend quit it?”, Shouto shoots back, with unexpected heat. Touya, blinks and both Fuyumi and Natsuo seem caught off guard too.
Izuku shakes himself free from the stupor he has sort of been in since Dabi and Pentagon waltzed in. In his own feeling of overwhelm, he’s completely forgot about Shouto. He organised for Izuku to meet Fuyumi, in careful consideration, and his other siblings showed up, his mother was going to show up and completely rearrange his plans. Combine that with the rivalry Shouto has going on with his siblings – not cool.
“Shouto”, Izuku says and wraps a hand around Shouto’s elbow, not tugging yet. “It’s fine.”
Shouto grinds his teeth. “It’s not.”
Izuku gives him a reassuring smile. “I’m fine with this. Hey, it’s paradise. I get to meet all of these pro heroes up close, in civvies. I’m cool with it, if you are?”
Shouto slowly sits back down and exhaled. Izuku suddenly shivers and notices that in his irritation, Shouto must have cranked up his heat. Yikes. That doesn’t happen too often anymore.
“Mum!” Natsuo rises and waves. “Join us!”
Shouto closes his eyes and Izuku snakes his hand down to intertwine it with Shouto’s and give it a reassuring squeeze. Shouto trembles, but squeezes back and turns to look at his mother who is walking over, her fiancé at her heels.
“Natsuo, Fuyumi, Touya, Shouto”, she says and smiles. Her smile and voice are warm and soft, to Izuku’s surprise, so dissimilar from her cold and aloof behaviour and sharp words while in costume. “Tenko, Rumi, Tensei. Ah, and you must be Izuku?”
Given name already? Izuku quickly bows as far as his sitting position will allow him. “Yes! Pleasure to meet you, Himura-san! Sakamata-san!”
Gang Orca nods in greeting. He is not wearing his thick black cloak, but is still dressed in suit pants, a button-up and vest and dress shoes. He nods. Izuku remembers the man blocking his Full Cowling Shoot Style with no effort and wonders if he stands a chance against the Number 12 Hero right now, now that two years have passed since the provisional hero license exam first year.
“Did you all mean to meet like this?”, Rei asks.
“Believe me”, Fuyumi says. “We didn’t. It’s a coincidence.”
Rei lets out a laugh. “Well, I guess the only one missing would be your father.”
“Let’s hope not”, Natsuo mutters. Izuku is admittedly a little curious about Natsuo’s resentment. He knows that Endeavour is far from an ideal father, played favourites quite obviously and fed the rivalry between his kids.
“I texted him”, Touya said and Natsuo stares.
“You’re fucking with us.”
“Nope.” Touya holds up his phone, displaying the text message to ‘Old Man 🔥 ’. “He already read it, too. Thanks for the distraction, Tenko-chan.”
Shimura throws him a horrified look. “You sick bastard.”
“Touya, I’m gonna kill you”, Natsuo says. He’s smiling, but Izuku can see the frost crawling up his clothes.
“Go ahead, bro, many have tried”, Touya says, smiling like the cat that caught the canary.
“Why would you want to bring Father into this?”, Shouto asks, head buried in his hands.
“I wanna see the world burn obviously”, Touya says and slouches back into his chair. “And now we wait.”
They’re not waiting for long. Endeavour and Hawks set foot into the restaurant only moments after they have received their drinks from a waiter who looks like he’s about to burst into tears in excitement. The Number One hero has his flames turned off, but his imposing figure and prominent face scar set him apart from others. Also, his winged companion is a dead-giveaway, even in civvies.
“Evening!”, Hawks calls cheerfully and winks at Touya, who rolls his eyes. Izuku recalls that they teamed up a few times in the past, when Hawks was the biggest threat to Endeavour’s rank and Touya obviously wanted to help Hawks make real of that threat to knock Endeavour down a few notches. It backfired spectacularly with Hawks and Endeavour dating, as it seemed.
“Hawks, dude!”, Miruko calls and waves him over. “Sit next to me, man!”
Hawks immediately ditches Endeavour and starts talking with Miruko, both of them laughing loud enough to make other patrons frown. Endeavour looks a little lost for a moment, but regains his composure quickly.
“I see”, Todoroki Enji says, eyes roaming up and down the table. “Is someone pregnant or proposing?”
“What”, Natsuo asks flatly. Fuyumi lets out a strained laugh. Touya watches everything go down with a self-content smirk and Shouto seems to be regretting most of his life choices, if not all of them.
Enji sits down at the second table staff had to pull up, opposite Gang Orca, next to Hawks who is animatedly talking to Miruko.
“Actually”, Fuyumi speaks up. “We, uh, do have an announcement.”
Izuku blinks hard. Oh God. What has he gotten himself into tonight?
“Nee-san?”, Shouto and Natsuo both ask.
“Oooh, tea”, Miruko calls and rubs her hands together, grinning widely.
“Tensei has asked me to marry him”, Fuyumi says, cheeks flush with heat. “And I said yes.”
Miruko and Hawks begin cheering right away and Rei places a treacherously delicate-appearing hand on her daughter’s arm.
“Congratulations”, she says warmly. “Tensei, I’m glad you decided to take this very much overdue step.”
Tensei laughs sheepishly and wraps an arm around Fuyumi’s waist. “Sorry, Rei.”
Enji lets out a huff. “What happened to asking the father for approval?”
“Uh, the 21st century?”, Natsuo deadpans.
“It was hard to get a hold of you, Todoroki-san”, Tensei says and Izuku makes notice of how he refers to Fuyumi’s mother by her given name, but addresses Enji by his family name plus honorific. Interesting. Izuku could dedicate a whole notebook to the Todoroki family dynamics.
“Congrats, Nee-san”, Shouto says. “I’m happy for you.”
Fuyumi smiles. “Thank you, Shou-chan.”
“Well, if we’re doing big revelations”, Touya says. “Not to steal your thunder, Fuyumi, but it’s not like we’re gonna have this round again any time soon.”
Fuyumi shrugs. “No, you’re right. Go on.”
“Tenko and I are getting a place together”, Touya says. “In Tokyo.”
Shouto blinks. “Tokyo?”
“I’m being transferred”, Shimura says. “More need for urban rescuers in a city like Tokyo.”
Izuku guesses that makes sense.
“I don’t condone moving in together before marriage”, Enji says and Hawks rolls his eyes at the comment.
“If you’re worried about my virtue, that’s long gone”, Touya says. “And besides, ‘s not like I depend on your or anything so.”
Enji’s scowl deepens. “What about your agency?”
“I’m founding my own”, Shimura says. “And Touya’s joining LeMillion Hero Agency as a sidekick.”
“Oi. As a hero.”
“Ugh. Details.”
“LeMillion seems an unlikely partner for Dabi”, Gang Orca speaks up for the first time and Izuku is sure if Endeavour said that, Touya would be reacting very differently. With Gang Orca, he just shrugs.
“LeMillion’s agency is young and independent. He’s got Suneater and Nejire-chan with him, for a start. And LeMillion needs more firepower. Guess what I have plenty.” A blue flame dances at the tip of Touya’s finger and he extinguishes it with a roll of his eyes at Fuyumi’s sharp look. “So I’m joining him.”
“Good choice”, Miruko says. “LeMillion is up here already, he’ll probably make top ten next year or the year after. Gotta watch your fin, Orca.”
Gang Orca huffs and Izuku makes a mental note to check in on Togata-senpai’s agency’s numbers to do a proper side-by-side comparison before and after Dabi joins.
“Well, gee, now I feel bad for not having any grand news”, Natsuo mutters.
“I can propose to you if you want”, Miruko suggests.
Natsuo laughs. “Let’s save that for another time.”
“Suit yourself.”
Rei chuckles. “Shouto? Izuku? Do you have any grand news to share with the class?”
“Apart from that we’re dating?”, Shouto says and shakes his head. “No.”
“I don’t have any news either”, Rei says. “Hawks? Enji?”
Enji opens his mouth to say “no”, but Hawks is quicker. “I might be pregnant, don’t know for sure yet though.”
Enji chokes on air, as does Natsuo. Rei freezes and Fuyumi slaps her hands in front of her mouth. Touya accidentally incinerates a napkin and Shouto seems to have transcended into the void.
“What”, Enji manages to wrench out once he’s recovered from his coughing fit. He looks a little ill.
Now, Izuku is aware that Hawks is transgender – every kid aspiring to be hero nowadays knows, Hawks is the first hero not confirming to his gender assigned at birth to reach the top five on the Japan Hero Billboard Chart. Izuku has not considered the implications that might have for Hawks’ relationship that he also only learned of less than an hour ago.
“I mean the test came back positive but I’ve yet to go to the doctor and confirm it, so yeah”, Hawks says and grins. “Surprise.”
“Old man, I am personally going to schedule your vasectomy”, Natsuo growls.
“Seconded”, Touya and Shouto say. Fuyumi is too stunned to say anything.
“Well”, Rei says. “Virility has never been your issue after all. It was unwise not to use protection, Enji.”
“Rei”, Enji croaks and Hawks guffaws.
“That’s it, okay, shit, that’s it”, Natsuo shoots up, looking absolutely mortified. “I’m leaving.”
“Naw, it’s just getting entertaining!” Miruko pulls at his sleeve. “It’s like ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ but in real life.”
“Does that make my Kylie?”, Hawks asks.
“In what world, dude?”, Miruko says and laughs. “Dibs on honorary auntie title though.”
“You go have your own kid”, Hawks says and Natsuo pales and claps his hands together twice in prayer. “But I guess Fuyumi’s next.”
“Fuyumi is what?”, Fuyumi says. “Don’t make assumptions about my uterus just because yours got occupied, Keigo.”
Hawks whistles. “Nice comeback! What about you, Dabi, Shimura?”
“No brats”, Touya says. “Tenko is one already.”
Shimura wrinkles his nose but doesn’t disagree.
“Izuku”, Shouto says faintly while the other parts of the table burst into heated discussions about a potential fifth Todoroki and other family plans. “How do you feel about McDonald’s?”
Izuku stifles a chuckle. “Sounds good. Let’s go?”
Shouto nods mutely and they slowly make their way to the door. Tensei catches their eye and shoots them a thumbs-up before jumping back into the discussion. The staff is so preoccupied with ten pro heroes fighting among themselves they don’t notice them leaving. Izuku briefly worries if they should have paid for their drinks.
The air outside the restaurant is pleasantly cool and the bickering from inside is muted. The fact that it’s somewhat audible from outside speaks for itself and Izuku feels a little sorry for the other patrons who had hoped to have a nice date night.
“My family is why we can’t have nice things”, Shouto says glumly.
Izuku laughs. “Are you kidding? That’s at least ten pages of notes for my Hero Notebooks I got in there. They’re fun.”
“They’re exhausting.”
“You just don’t want to stop being the family baby”, Izuku teases and Shouto squats down, head in hands.
“Oh God”, he says, voice muffled by his hands. “Father’s having another kid. I’m not processing this.”
Izuku squats next to him and wraps an arm around his boyfriend. “I can tell.”
They sit there, in the cold until gooseflesh is crawling up their arms and their breath comes out in puffs. The bickering inside doesn’t die down and curious passerbys peer into the restaurant.
“So”, Izuku says. “McD?”
Shouto shudders and rises. “I’m getting twenty chicken nuggets minimum.”
