Work Text:
sukai has a thought.
and he doesn’t feel weird about having it. he’s just... curious.
it comes naturally when he’s watched all the korean dramas syoya recommended to him and he’s thinking about the possibility of the things in the drama happening in real life, which is so innocent of him to think about, really.
it’s not like sukai has nothing better to think about but exams are over, leaving him with no choice but to let the thought occupy his brain. he’s been thinking about it the entire evening, on the way back to their apartment.
“do you wanna go grab a bite?”
keigo’s voice brings sukai back to reality. they’ve walked far enough from the campus and to a street where restaurants are on every corner. his best friend slash roommate is already contemplating eating beef or pork for dinner while sukai can only sigh. as expected, it might be impossible after all.
“let’s have pork cutlet.”
“again?” keigo peeks curiously at him. “didn’t you have that yesterday with shion?”
how embarrassing could he get? sukai mentally facepalms before nodding, “yeah.” because he just remembered that he did have pork cutlet with shion yesterday. “do you want ramen?”
keigo rolls his eyes and continues walking several steps ahead of him. “that’s what i’ve been saying! you’re not paying attention again, aren’t you?”
sukai stares at keigo’s back. sometimes, he forgets how his best friend can’t go a day without getting attention because of how naturally keigo gives attention more than he receives from the people around him and it’s making sukai feel bad about zoning out on him.
sukai isn't sure about how they end up getting curry rice from the nearest convenience store but he knows both of them don’t even care.
“what’s with you?”
is he that easy to read? sukai wonders if keigo’s just really good with people.
they’re sitting on the couch and of course there’s a damn drama on the television. sukai has never seen it before and certainly has no idea what it is about but he’s more curious about something else and it’s something that’s been preoccupying his mind. “nothing. i’m just tired. how did the exams go?” sukai hopes he’s not so obvious about wanting to change the topic.
“i think i did pretty well.” keigo says thoughtfully then shifts his eyes back to the television screen. “uh, come on, just let her kiss him!” he exclaims before taking another spoonful of curry rice into his mouth. the sentence said to no one in particular, makes sukai’s eyes go wide.
“so, you think it’s possible?”
suddenly, sukai doesn’t feel like finishing his food. there is something more interesting to do.
“what is?” keigo turns his head to him.
“wanting to kiss your best friend?”
he expected a teasing smile or something close to it but it’s like something clicks in keigo’s head (sukai swears he almost hears it) and then his best friend smiles, the kind of smile that he always has whenever he’s happy or something goes his way. sukai doesn’t know what to expect now that keigo is possibly aware of what’s been on his mind.
“sure is. why, do you think it’s not possible?”
sukai actually thinks it’s quite the opposite. there have been several moments where he thinks it’s quite nearly impossible to resist. and right now is one of them. or maybe he always has the thought with him. whenever he thinks about keigo and how pretty he is when he smiles.
again, it doesn’t feel weird to have the thought. they’ve been friends long enough for the curiosity to spark or maybe it’s just him (because of those dramas he’s watched) but sukai wouldn’t find out unless he tried. he just wants to see if it’s a normal thing (yeah, absolutely).
soon, they have forgotten about food. is there something more important than proving your curiosity when the time calls? so, sukai takes his chance, when things can go so wrong but at least the possibility of it being right is not zero. right?
“no, i do think it’s possible.” sukai admits and now that it’s proven, he’s thinking if just wanting is enough. “but like, don’t you think it will ruin the friendship? wanting is one thing but actually doing it is a completely different thing, no?”
keigo sighs and sukai can tell he’s mildly annoyed. “why do you have to think so much? don’t you want to do it?”
sukai can do nothing to save his busted ass so instead of trying to deny it, he leans over and pushes keigo down against the couch slowly and carefully. keigo is looking up at him with anticipation in his eyes and sukai thinks he sees excitement there too. is his best friend out of his mind?
“why are you so cool with this?”
“please,” there’s the smile again and it’s driving sukai crazy. “i’ve been waiting my entire life for this.” he says and the next thing sukai knows there’s a pair of lips on his own.
it’s funny how his mind goes blank when it actually happens. the feelings are familiar yet at the same time, unfamiliar but it’s not something he can't live with. he wouldn’t mind getting used to this, having his hand propel his entire weight while the other on keigo’s waist because it just feels so natural. he wouldn’t mind, as long as he gets to see keigo’s soft and shy smile after every kiss.
or even a teasing one, like the one he’s giving him after they pull away from each other.
“be honest with me, have you kissed before?”
did he suck that much?
sukai raises an eyebrow. “how many practices do you think it takes for me to be good at it?”
sukai has several thoughts.
and he doesn’t feel weird about having them. he’s just... embarrassed (but doesn’t show it).
