Work Text:
If you would’ve told Mina last week that she’d currently be inside the bedroom of the Vice President of Iota Upsilon Phi she’d have straight up laughed in your face. Heck, up until thirty minutes ago the last place she’d ever thought she’d end up was standing in front of the cast iron gate sealing off the Iota Upsilon Phi house (that’s more of a mini-mansion than a house for college students to live in really). Yet, there she had been apprehensively pushing the doorbell after pacing around the front of the building for fifteen minutes.
And now she’s currently sweating buckets in the Vice President’s bedroom looking around wearily at the overly pink and unfamiliar decorations surrounding her. It’s crazy, the room may be even more pink than the exterior of the house. It’s not exactly Mina’s personal taste but considering the room’s owner she supposes it is very fitting.
Sitting next to Mina in an equally pink sweater with a matching pink bow in her hair and a pretty dusting of equally pink blush on her cheeks is aforementioned Iota Upsilon Phi Vice President, Sana Minatozaki a.k.a Mina’s literature project partner a.k.a the bane of Mina’s existence for the past few days.
It’s not that Sana’s a terrible person, no in fact it’s quite the opposite. Mina likes to think of herself as a rather open minded individual, but she can’t deny having certain preconceived notions about a certain group of their university’s student population. It’s hard to not find Greek Life culture as a whole annoying, especially considering her apartment building is next to a frat house that chooses to throw parties every Thursday night or the fact that she’s almost been run over by a horde of 30+ sorority girls identically dressed in oversized Vineyard Vines shirts that think getting to whatever stupid fucking Greek-life event they’re late to justifies them taking up the whole god-damn sidewalk. Mina usually doesn’t like to judge books by their covers but it is a little hard to not do so when the cover literally has “I’M PRIVILEGED AND ANNOYING” spelled out in huge letters.
So when her professor had posted their partner assignments online Monday morning and Mina saw her name next to the Vice President of one of their university’s biggest sororities, she had been less than thrilled. Mina whined all morning to her roommate Jeongyeon about it and prepared herself for the grudgingly awkward meeting that was sure to come after class. She’d only reluctantly had a few interactions with sorority members before, most taking place during the beginning of her Freshman year when they tried to recruit members. The overly fake smiles, pamphlets, and utterly astounding amounts of oozing heterosexuality were as big of a turn off for her now as it was back then and she had not been looking forward to dealing with that kind of energy again.
Sana, though, has managed to upturn and destroy basically all of Mina’s preconceived notions about sororities and Greek Life in a matter of three days.
First off, the smile she had greeted Mina with upon their first meeting had no trace of fakeness. Sana’s smile was one of those smiles that makes you stop and stare. It was like pure molten sunshine had been taken and bottled up from the Sun’s surface and injected into that girl's veins. Her perfectly shaped lips tipped up on the sides and suddenly her round cheeks got even rounder (and even more adorable). The accompanying warm giggle and sweet cheerful greeting of ‘Hi I’m Sana, it’s so nice to meet you’ only added to the sheer level of niceness that Sana exuded. Mina had been gobsmacked, her heart racing as she tried to remember her name which for some reason she seemed to have momentarily forgotten. Which Sana thankfully had supplied for her a few seconds later.
You’re Mina, right? Sana had said, that blinding smile still gracing her face. I think we’re partners.
Mina could only dumbly nod and let out a pathetic ‘yeah’ as a response. Which seemed to have been a satisfactory enough answer for the other girl. Sana had promptly taken a hold of Mina’s hand and dragged her to the nearest coffee shop, and thus the start of their confusing and frustrating partnership began.
Confusing, because Sana continued to subvert every single one of Mina’s expectations. And frustrating because well…
Take Mina’s current situation for instance.
She’s sitting next to Sana on the girl’s fluffy (and also very pink) carpet, their laptops and books spread out in front of them. Which is not anything out of the usual, right? They are project partners after all, so it’s normal to meet up outside of class and work together.
However, the way Sana’s hand keeps casually drifting over to touch Mina’s leg isn’t exactly standard platonic classmate etiquette. Mina’s breath hitches as Sana’s dainty fingers ghost over her exposed thigh again. Sana’s fingers start moving in barely-there circles over the skin there and Mina curses her past self for choosing to wear short cut overalls today.
Moments like this aren’t uncommon when you’re around Sana Minatozaki. Over the last few days Mina’s come to find out that the older girl is very touchy. A back-hug here, a shoulder nuzzle there. The second Sana deems you as an acquaintance, you basically become her personal cuddle buddy.
And this constant touching is driving Mina up a wall.
It wouldn’t be that bad if it stayed in the more platonic realm of things. However, Sana’s taken to clinging around Mina’s shoulders and placing kisses on her cheeks when she catches her off guard. Not to mention she continuously chooses to coo over how “cute” Mina is while doing so. Mina’s come to the conclusion that Sana’s either really gay and teasing the shit out of her or she’s one of those oblivious straight girls that is just a little too friendly for their own good.
A few days ago Mina would’ve assumed it was the latter, given that Sana’s the Vice President of ‘We are Privileged and Straight Incorporated’.
Yet, the way that Sana’s fingertips currently have started a trek further up the length of Mina’s thigh leads her to think that maybe things aren’t always as they seem.
Mina is drawn out of her inner ponderings by a knock on Sana’s door. Much to her relief (and maybe a little bit of frustration) Sana’s fingers stop their journey and she retracts her hand.
“Who is it?” Sana shouts towards the door. She turns briefly to Mina looking apologetic.
A response comes from behind the door in the form of a loud shout. “It’s Jihyo!”
“Oop, it’s the boss. Can’t ignore her.” Sana whispers to Mina. She stands and bows her head slightly in apology again before going over to open the door. “Sorry, I told everyone we’d be studying in here but it’s kind of hard to not expect interruptions when you live with over 30 girls.”
Mina shakes her head, hoping Sana hasn’t noticed the blush that’s settled over her cheeks. “Oh, it’s fine.”
Behind the door stands one of the most confident and intimidatingly beautiful humans Mina’s ever seen. Despite the girl’s short height she carries quite a commanding presence with her large expressive eyes and composed stature. She has a smile on her face as she leans forward to look in the room. She briefly shoots a wave towards Mina in greeting before speaking to Sana.
“Sorry, I know you’re studying in here but I brought you something.” She holds up a plastic bag which Sana immediately takes.
“Yay, a present!” Sana gushes excitedly, that bright smile gracing her features yet again and sending Mina’s heart back into overdrive.
Jihyo endearingly rolls her eyes at Sana’s enthusiasm. “I don’t know if I’d call it that. We had some leftover strawberries from the Valentine’s fundraiser, and knowing your sweet tooth I thought I’d bring them to you.”
“A present’s still a present. Thanks so much Hyo.” Sana leans forward and places a kiss on the girl’s cheek.
Mina can’t help the sour taste that makes its way into her mouth at that. So she does that with everyone, Mina thinks to herself. Maybe Sana is really just that friendly afterall.
Jihyo chuckles and wipes at her cheek in mock disgust. “Okay, okay. Well I guess I’ll leave you to it then.” She turns towards Mina and waves again. “It was nice to meet you…”
“Mina,” Mina offers quietly.
“Mina.” Jihyo nods, “Feel free to have some too. Make her give you them though, or she might eat them all alone.”
Sana pouts and whines, hitting Jihyo’s shoulder playfully. “Don’t say that Hyo. You’ll scare my darling Mitang off.”
She pushes the other girl out of the doorway and slams it closed. She shakes her head as she makes her way back over to Mina. “I promise I’m not a food hog. I’ll share some with you, ‘kay?”
Mina nods dumbly as her mind reels from Sana’s use of a nickname for her. That’s another thing the girl does that makes Mina’s brain short circuit. She had used darling to refer to Mina before already but that other one she just came up with—Mitang—was new. As Sana bounds back over to her with their newly procured goodies the nickname runs through Mina’s head over and over again on repeat in Sana’s sweet voice.
Mitang. She could really get used to the sound of that.
Sana sits back down next to Mina with a smile and takes a small container out of the bag. She takes the lid off and looks inside before pushing it towards Mina excitedly. “There’s only about a dozen or so left in here, so we can split them. Have you eaten already? I hope this doesn’t spoil your dinner.”
Mina shakes her head and reaches into the container. “No, I had a late lunch before coming here so it’s fine. Thanks.” She pulls out a nice plump strawberry covered in white chocolate and tiny pink sprinkles.
“Ooh you got one I made!” Sana points towards the strawberry now making its way into Mina’s open mouth.
“You know which strawberries you made yourself?” Mina asks.
“Yeah, everyone in the house had to help make these last night but I was the only person genius enough to think to put sprinkles on mine.” Sana nods with a proud look on her face. She watches Mina chew expectantly, “Does it taste good?”
Mina hums out as she chews the sweet juicy treat. It’d been a while since she had a chocolate strawberry given that they usually aren’t a year round thing and only appear around Valentine’s Day. She’s been single for the last few years too so it wasn’t like she had someone to give the treat to her anyway. “It’s really good. The sprinkles were a nice touch.”
Sana absolutely beams at the praise. She grabs a strawberry for herself but speaks before popping it into her mouth. “I’m glad. A sweetie like you only deserves sweet things.”
For the umpteenth time that day Mina blushes. She’s not really sure what to do at this point. The flirty comments just keep coming like that and Mina’s gay heart is too weak to handle it. So, she just ducks her head shyly and awkwardly laughs off Sana’s comment.
Thankfully, Sana doesn’t say anything else and the two resume eating and working on their project. Well, Sana continues to work on their project. All Mina can bring herself to do right now is chew absentmindedly on the strawberries and stare blankly at her computer screen as she tries to stop an oncoming Sana-centric meltdown.
After a few minutes of mindlessly scrolling through her notes, Mina sees Sana shift from the corner of her eye. The next second she feels something light land on the tip of her nose. Mina attempts to identify the mystery object by staring down the bridge of her nose, which the lenses and bridge of her glasses make quite difficult. Sana chuckles at her from beside at the sight.
With a tiny huff Mina gives up and instead reaches up to pluck the object off. She’s met with the sight of a small pink sticker in the shape of a heart. Sana’s expectant giggles draw Mina’s gaze to meet the other girl’s face. She’s staring at Mina with a somewhat overwhelming amount of fondness. It’s not unwelcoming, just flustering and not at all helping Mina’s inner turmoil.
I don’t know….maybe she is into girls?
“What’s this for?” Mina asks, her voice stutters a bit as she attempts to maintain eye contact. (Which is proving to be a very burdensome task, given the fact that Sana’s beautiful warm brown eyes are peering into her soul.)
Sana shrugs, “I don’t know, you just looked so cute. You know you tend to pout quite a bit when you’re thinking. It’s really adorable.” She leans back on her hands and tilts her head, giving Mina a once over before returning her gaze back to Mina’s face.
Mina shakes her head in disagreement before looking back down at the sticker in her hands. Holy shit, she might actually be into girls, into me even.
“What?” Sana pipes up, sitting up straight. She scoots even closer to Mina than she was before. Her arm now presses up against Mina’s as she leans in and asks, “You don’t believe me?”
“No, I know I pout. It’s just that it’s not a cute habit.”
Sana tuts her tongue. She reaches over and places a hand under Mina’s chin then slowly tilts the younger’s head up in her direction. Up this close, Mina can see a natural more rosy hue peeking out from beneath Sana’s baby pink blush. The two colors mould into a beautiful watercolor-like texture across Sana’s cheeks. Mina decides then that, yeah, maybe pink isn’t such a bad color after all.
“Everything about you is adorable, Mitang.” Sana grins again, and while her normal perky bright sweetness definitely is still present a darker more coy and playful look lies beneath.
Okay, yep pretty sure she’s into girls.
Sana chuckles lightly and points at the side of Mina’s mouth. “Oh hey look, you got a little bit of strawberry juice there Mitang.”
Before Mina can react, Sana takes her finger and swipes at the juice. Mina assumes Sana would just reach over and pick up one of the napkins inside the discarded bag to wipe her finger off with, but again Sana surprises her. Mina sucks in a harsh breath as she watches Sana bring her finger towards her own mouth and loop her lips around the digit.
It’s excruciating to maintain eye contact with the elder, her eyes glazed over in a delicious and seductive manner as they bare straight through Mina’s soul. Yet, Mina can’t bring herself to look away. She’s hypnotized, entranced as Sana slowly pulls her finger out of her mouth, the digit leaving slipping out from her lips with a wet pop .
“Mhmm,” Sana hums, her lips twisting up at the corners into a devilish smile. “Tasty.”
Dumbfounded, Mina stares, their literature project all but forgotten. The perfectionist student within her cries out, begging for Mina to veer the conversation back towards a more professional and academic nature. The dumb gay simpleton inside, however, points out that she hasn’t gotten laid in months and it might be interesting to see where Sana’s heading with this. The two sides continue to battle it out, Mina sat stock still in confusion as she tries to decide what to do next. Thankfully, Sana seems to have made the decision for her.
She reaches over and closes Mina’s laptop. After pushing it out of the way she leans on her arm, cocking her head as she gives Mina a glance over. “You know, Mitang, after that interruption I don’t really think we’re getting much work done.”
“You don’t say.” Mina tries to quip, but her voice comes out more like a choked whisper. She can feel her cheeks flaming as her heart tingles at the sound of the nickname leaving Sana’s pretty mouth again.
Sana’s eyes continue to dance along Mina’s features, finally settling on her lips. Mina tries (and fails) to not gulp. With a smirk Sana shifts onto all fours and inches closer to Mina.
“Yeah, I don’t know about you but I could really use a study break. What do you say?” Sana stops right in front of Mina, her hands placed on the outsides of the latter’s thighs. She glances up, eyebrows raised in question.
Mina bites her bottom lip, eyes shifting away shyly. “Well, uh, what did you have in mind?” She’s always been quite awkward in situations like this, always unsure of how things will transpire. Maybe she’s reading into this whole thing the wrong way and Sana’s going to suggest they paint their nails or watch some shitty Netflix film starring Noah Centineo or whatever it is sorority girls do in their free time. Yeah, that’s probably what’s going to happen. The flirty smiles, the lingering touches were just all in her head. Sana’s just a nice girl who’s a bit too friendly for her own good. Besides, there’s no way a girl like Sana would even want anything to do with someone like Mina, much less be blatantly hitting on her.
“You’re thinking too hard again, darling,” Sana sing-songs.
Mina glances down at where her hands are clutched onto the hem of her shorts, too afraid to look at Sana’s charged gaze again. “Sorry, I’m, uh, I’m just a little confused right now.”
“What’s there to be confused about?”
Mina glances up at the genuine perplexity in Sana’s voice. The elder still on her hands and knees stares up at Mina, her round eyes open and waiting for a response.
“Well, what’s going on here? What is this?” Mina voices out hesitantly as she gestures in between the two of them.
Sana sits up without backing away. She places one hand atop Mina’s thigh, her pinky darting out to graze Mina’s hand there playfully. “Whatever you want it to be, Mina.”
Silence settles between the two of them, the only sound Mina can hear being their breath and the incessant thumping of her own heart. She waits for Sana to continue, to add on anything to make that statement any more less cryptic, or maybe even say psyche. But nothing comes, just Sana staring at her with her damn sparkly eyes.
“Well…” Mina says slowly, “that didn’t really answer my question.”
This sets Sana off into a series of chuckles. She tightens her grip on Mina’s thighs and mumbles underneath her breath something that sounds suspiciously like ‘too damn cute’ but it’s hard for Mina to tell in between the bubbly high-pitched giggles.
“Don’t laugh at me,” Mina whines out, “I’m being serious! I don’t get what’s going on here, you’re confusing the crap out of me.”
“Sorry, sorry. Your eyebrows scrunched up and you just looked adorable. I can’t help it.” Sana stifles her giggles and sobers her expression. “But really, Mina, what do you think is happening here? ‘Cause I thought I was being pretty damn obvious.”
Mina glances down at the hand resting on her thigh. She’s afraid to say what she’s been thinking and have it end up being completely wrong. If that’s the case, she’ll have to drop out of their lit class and avoid any and all campus sponsored events like the plague if she wants to save face and never run into the sorority vice president again. But the curiosity and confusion have been eating away at her ever since the two’s first meeting and she needs to know now.
“Are you…” Mina starts, but shakes her head and begins again. “Have you been...coming on to me?”
Sana straightens up at Mina’s strained question. “Well, I’ve been trying to come on to you, but I’m not too sure I’ve been doing a great job.” For the first time since Mina met her, Sana looks flustered and a bit unsure of herself. “I thought I was at first, you know you’d blush so cutely and everything, but, um, now I’m worried I’ve been making you uncomfortable.”
“No!” Mina reassures Sana immediately, “No, not at all. I mean yeah, your advances have had an effect on me but not in a, uh, bad way. I just wasn’t sure it was actually happening. Thought I was making everything up in my head.”
“So you are gay, right?” Sana asks, “I didn’t read that wrong?”
Mina waves her hands enthusiastically, “No, yeah totally, gay. Hella into pussy.” She cringes at how absolutely lame that was, but smiles when she sees Sana giggle at her awkwardness.
“Good to know. Me too.”
“You’re gay too?” Mina asks, then mentally face palms. Of course she is or at least some kind of queer, otherwise she wouldn’t have admitted to coming on to Mina just mere seconds before.
“Well, pan, actually. But yeah, I'm hella into pussy too.” Sana says teasing the other with her own words. “So does that clear up the confusion for you?”
“A bit,” Mina admits. She definitely knows now that Sana is interested in her and that she’s not insane and the last few days have been some weird kind of walking lesbian fever dream. But she still doesn’t know what this thing going on between the two of them is, or what it’s going to develop into. Is it just a one time thing Sana wants, a random fuck then the two of them will finish this project and part ways never to speak to each other again? Or could this thing , this attraction between the two of them, get the opportunity to blossom into a relationship?
Mina would honestly be okay with either, but she can’t help the flutter in her chest at the thought of the second option.
She bashfully explains this to Sana who thankfully, is on the same page.
“I mean I’d love to get into your pants as much as the next guy, don’t get me wrong. Or should I say girl? Person? You know, why are so many idioms needlessly gendered? It’s a little ridiculous...”
Mina fondly watches as Sana rambles on, pleasantly surprised that a sorority girl had such strong feelings about the erasure of queer folks and the gender binary. She should really thank their professor for pairing them together, because even if their romance doesn’t last at least she’s learned to not be so judgemental and biased. Sana has taught her that everything shouldn’t be taken by face value and preconceived notions and stereotypes are complete and utter bullshit.
“Sorry to go off on a tangent there, but like I was saying. Yeah I’d totally like to have sex with you, of course with your consent.” Sana winks at Mina before reaching up and running her hand lightly through the other’s hair. The touch is so gentle and filled with adoration Mina thinks she’ll melt and become one with Sana’s neon pink carpet. “But I’d also really really like to take you out on a date too.”
Mina bushes, reaching up to touch Sana’s hand in her hair. She smiles when the elder takes her hand in hers and intertwines their fingers together. “I’d like that too, Sana. A lot.”
“So, about that study break I mentioned earlier.” Sana trails off and wiggles her eyebrows playfully.
Mina pushes at the other’s shoulder rolling her eyes, “Don’t you have a roommate, won’t she walk in?” Mina gestures at the bed on the other side of the room with a duvet as equally pink and fluffy as Sana’s.
Sana half heartedly waves over at her roommates bed. “Nayeon had to man the fundraiser booth all day since she’s our treasurer. It’s a bitch having to put everything up and check the fundraising tables back into the activity center, so I don’t know when she’ll get back. Not that it matters, I was gonna ask to just kiss you. But I mean if you’re already up for more I won’t complain.”
“I think just a kiss would be good for now.” Mina chuckles out. Her eyes flit down and stare at the soft pink gloss coating Sana’s lips. “Just a kiss would be perfect.”
If you would’ve told Mina last week that she’d not only be about to kiss the Vice President of Iota Upsilon Phi, but that she’d also be going on a date with said Vice President in the near future, she’d have straight up laughed in your face.
Sana tastes like strawberry and chocolate when their lips meet.
