Work Text:

Tyler caught sight of Emily in the mirror as she curled her hair and she smiled at the brunette.

“Hello gorgeous,” Tyler said grinning, dropping one curl before moving to the next lock of her hair.

“Are you sure you can’t stay tonight? I know Jayj and Pen won’t mind…” Emily said, leaning her shoulder into the doorframe as she met Tyler’s gaze in the mirror. This was the first girls night since the team had met Tyler almost two months ago. Emily had assumed Tyler would stay and join, while Tyler had pointedly made plans to allow Emily some space and time with her friends. It had been a point of contention for a few days before Tyler floated the compromise of coming home early enough to spend some time with the three women taking over her house for the evening.

“I know baby, but I promised Matty. And besides, don’t you want some girlfriend free time to spend with your friends?” She saw Emily shrug non-committally in the mirror as she turned the curling iron off and set it aside, leaning forward to finish her makeup. Emily pushed off the door jamb and approached, placing her hands on Tyler’s shoulders before sliding delicately down her arms as she leaned in to kiss the blonde’s neck. “Don’t you have food you need to finish making?” Tyler asked as her head fell back to give Emily more access to her neck, contradicting her question. Emily reached the juncture of Tyler’s neck and shoulder and she sucked soft skin into her mouth before biting down, earning her a low moan from the blonde. “Jesus Em.”

Emily increased the suction and bit down again, marking the blonde thoroughly before she finally released the tan skin. Emily trailed her fingers along the blossoming bruise and hypersensitive flesh she had created, smiling softly to herself.

“Whoops,” Emily said with a laugh and not a hint of contrition, thumb stroking Tyler’s neck. Tyler swatted Emily’s hand away playfully,

“GO. Make your dinner,” Tyler commanded, leaning forwards to swipe on a final coat of red lipstick before slipping her dress over her head as Emily skipped from the room with a throaty laugh. Tyler rolled her eyes and sighed as she inspected her reflection, the darkening bruise clearly evident peeking from under the strap of her dress.

Deciding it was too late to change her outfit to hide the bruise (and a little bit wanting to show off the mark), Tyler headed towards the kitchen. She found Emily sitting on a stool at the breakfast bar, sipping a mug of coffee as she watched the timer on the oven tick down. Tyler could tell by Emily’s change in posture that the brunette had heard her approach but Emily didn’t turn around.

“You are in so much trouble,” she murmured, hands falling to grip Emily’s hips firmly.

“Who me?” Emily asked with mock sincerity and innocence, tilting her head as she felt Tyler’s lips on her neck. She felt Tyler laugh against her skin as she plucked the mug from her hand and placed it on the island. Emily yelped as Tyler used her grip on her hips to spin the barstool so they were face to face, the blonde stepping between her legs and bending to capture her mouth.

“You did that on purpose,” the blonde breathed between kisses, one hand drifting to tangle in Emily’s hair to control her head while the other slid up beneath her shirt and roughly palmed her breast. Emily moaned and her head fell back, Tyler’s lips travelling across her jaw and down her neck as her hand wandered, leaving Emily’s shirt hiked up, fingertips dipping into the waist of her jeans.

Neither woman heard the front door open and shut as JJ and Penelope arrived, having keyed in the code Emily had given them to unlock the door so the two blonde agents got quite and eyeful when they entered the kitchen.

“Wow,” was all Penelope managed, while JJ just stood next to her, mouth opening and closing soundlessly. To Tyler’s delight, Emily didn’t panic and jump away like she expected, she just broke off the kiss to look at her blushing friends with an apologetic smile. Tyler slipped her hands back to Emily’s shirt and tugged it back into place before she kissed her on the cheek and moved away to fix her lipstick.

“Sorry ladies,” Tyler said laughing, “Got a little carried away.”

The timer on the oven chimed and Emily jumped from her seat to turn it off and retrieve dinner. Garcia and JJ shook themselves out of their stupor and each slid onto a barstool as Emily placed the hot dish on the stovetop before placing a tray of garlic bread in and resetting the timer. Tyler passed behind her girlfriend and brushed her fingertips down her arm to get her attention,

“There’s some wine for you ladies on the bar, I brought it up from the cellar this afternoon and uncorked it so it could breathe, there's plenty more if you need it downstairs. Have a good night, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do! I’ll pour you all into spare beds or cabs when I get home, whatever’s your preference,” she said with a chuckle. “Now I’m running super late so Emily will have to give you the grand tour,” She kissed Emily soundly and headed out the door.

As they heard the door click shut, Garcia rounded on the brunette, fanning her still pink cheeks, “Emily Elizabeth Prentiss! That was the sexiest thing I’ve seen in a long time, maybe ever! Where’s that wine? I need to cool off.” Emily laughed, heading to the lounge to retrieve a bottle and glasses from the bar. When she returned, she found JJ and Garcia deep in whispered conversation that stopped abruptly when they noticed her. JJ grabbed Emily’s wrist as she went to pour the wine so she could read the label.

“Jesus Em, this is a six hundred dollar bottle of wine!” Emily glanced down with surprise, she hadn’t even noticed (though she had noticed two more bottles waiting on the bar for them later). Emily shrugged and continued to pour generous measures into three glasses.

“God, can I have your girlfriend?” Garcia asked jokingly, lifting her glass to taste the burgundy liquid. She let out a small moan as she took her first sip, “I have never had better wine in my life. Don’t tell Rossi!” Emily and JJ laughed.

“Come on, I’ll give you guys a quick tour while we let this rest,” Emily picked up her wineglass and motioned for the others to follow. Emily led the way, through the lounge where Garcia spied two more bottles of wine breathing on the bar and gasped,

“Em! She opened eighteen hundred dollars worth of wine for us!”

“It’s her love language, gift giving,” Emily smiled softly, “Well one of them anyways. That and physical touch.”

Garcia snorted and JJ laughed, “We noticed.” Emily blushed and rolled her eyes, leading through to the dining room and the family room before ending in Tyler’s prized sunroom.

“Wow,” Garcia breathed, “This is incredible.”

“It was a patio,” Emily told them, taking a sip of her wine. “Tyler glassed it all in to make a sun room like her father’s. She smuggled most of these plants out of her mother’s house.” Distantly, the timer on the oven chimed again, “Oh shit the garlic bread! I’ll be right back.” Emily placed her wine glass on the table and jogged from the room, leaving JJ and Garcia to gossip.

Emily started dishing out dinner, letting her friends take some time to chat between themselves as they made their way back to the kitchen. The two blondes quieted as they entered the kitchen, JJ carrying Emily’s wineglass as well as her own.

“This is ready,” Emily said with a slightly forced smile, attempting to brush off the fact that the two women seemed to be hiding something from her. They took their plates and glasses to the table and an odd hush settled over the women as they started to eat, Emily mostly just pushing food around her plate as her anxiety got the best of her. Noticing the brunette’s sudden change in demeanour, JJ spoke up,

“Hey Em? I’m really happy for you. You and Tyler seem so good for each other and I’m honestly a little jealous of the passion you two share,” JJ blushed and looked down at her plate.

“Same here princess. You two are so hot, but so damn sweet too. I'd kill for someone who treats me like Tyler treats you. If I didn't love you so much it would be sickening how perfect you two are," Garcia chimed in, reaching across to squeeze Emily’s hand. Emily smiled and visibly relaxed, taking a forkful of pasta and putting it in her mouth. The shift in mood was immediate, with Emily pouring out more wine and JJ telling a story from the previous week when she and Will had been occupied with adult activities and Henry had barged in looking for a midnight snack. Laughter rang out and the rest of the meal passed with laughter and saw the bottom of two of the three bottles of wine.

After the meal they returned to the sun room with the remaining wine, Emily curling up in a chair while JJ and Garcia shared the plush couch. The doorbell rang, interrupting Garcia’s story about nearly hooking up with a guy in a bar bathroom a few weeks prior. Furrowing her brow, Emily stood and headed to the door, calling up the feed from the video doorbell on her phone as she approached. She stopped short as she saw the porch empty but for a plain white styrofoam cooler, rerouting to grab her gun from the safe before heading to the door.

“Em? Is everything okay?” JJ called, noticing the brunette had armed herself.

“There’s no one there, just a styrofoam cooler,” Emily called back, glancing over her shoulder to see that the blonde had already flanked her. Cautiously, Emily opened the door and stepped out, clearing the porch before squinting into the darkness. The speaker on the video doorbell crackled and Tyler’s voice rang out,

“Oh my god you lunatics it’s from me! Jesus you try and do something nice for your girlfriend and her friends.” Tyler’s laughter echoed from the speaker and she disconnected.

Releasing a nervous chuckle of relief Emily passed her weapon off to JJ to re-secure and picked up the cooler to carry it inside. Garcia was standing nervously by the kitchen island when the two returned, Emily placing the cooler on the counter and popping off the lid. A dramatic plume of frosty air billowed out and Emily waved a hand over the cooler to clear it before peering inside. Reaching in she pulled out four tubs of gelato and Garcia exclaimed,

“Ohmygosh is that Black Dog gelato? What flavours?!” Garcia lunged forwards, tilting the tubs to read the names aloud. “Honey Butter Almond, Ruby Chocolate Strawberry, Lemon Passionfruit and Birthday Cake. Oh god I don’t know which one to choose! Did Tyler do this? Seriously, I love that woman.”

Emily grinned and pulled spoons from the drawer as JJ and Garcia popped the lids off of the tubs. They were eating straight from the tubs and laughing when a creak from the hallway caught everyone’s attention, JJ’s hand automatically reaching for the weapon she had left at home.

“Momily?” a sleepy child’s voice called into the kitchen. Emily dropped her spoon and moved quickly towards the voice as a dark haired little girl of about three rounded the corner, thumb lodged firmly in her mouth and a worn rabbit tucked under her arm. “Momily…I heard voices. What’s happening?”

Emily scooped the girl into her arms and stroked her hair, “It’s okay Rose. Remember how I told you I was having some friends over? We were just talking, did we wake you?” The little girl nodded and rubbed the sleep from her vibrant green eyes as she peeked over Emily’s shoulder at the two women standing in the kitchen. “Do you want to say hi to Penelope and JJ?” The little girl nodded again.

Emily walked over to the island and sat the little girl on the edge, “Jayj, Penelope, this is Rosalie. Tyler has been her foster mom for the better part of the last year. Rosie, this is JJ and Penelope.”

The little girl looked up shyly through dark lashes, and whispered, “Hi.”

“Hi sweetheart,” JJ cooed, smiling at the small girl, noting how she leaned into Emily.

“It’s so nice to meet you Rosalie,” Garcia said, watching as the little girl eyed the tubs of gelato and then looked up at Emily with big doe eyes. JJ snickered when Emily reached out and scooped some of the birthday cake gelato onto a spoon and held it out for the little girl whose eyes lit up immediately. She pulled her thumb from her mouth and leaned in to take the dessert from the spoon, humming with contentment.

“A couple more spoonfuls,” Emily told her, reaching the spoon out into the tub again. The tiny brunette nodded happily, swinging her feet as JJ and Garcia looked on, speechless. After a few minutes and four more spoonfuls of gelato, the little girl couldn’t suppress a yawn. “Okay kiddo, bedtime.” Emily hoisted the girl off the counter and she immediately nestled into her arms, nose nuzzling Emily’s neck and her thumb finding it’s place back in her mouth.

“Goodnight cutie!” Garcia called to the retreating back of her colleague and the little girl lifted her head to give her a sleepy smile and wave.

Emily carried the small girl down the hallway to her room and settled her back into her bed, tucking her beneath the covers and kissing her forehead, “I’m so sorry we woke you up sweetheart, I hope we didn’t scare you.”

“I’m not scared when I’m here Momily. I know you and Mama will keep me safe,” the little girl whispered, eyes growing heavy. “Can you sing me the birdy song?”

Emily smiled and began to sing Blackbird quietly as the little girls eye’s slipped shut and her breathing evened out. Emily let her voice trail off at the end of a chorus and she leaned in to kiss the young girls forehead again before she rose to leave and rejoin her friends in the kitchen.

“Hey,” she said, noting JJ and Garcia’s heads bent together again, speaking lowly when she reentered the kitchen. “Sorry about that, usually her white noise machine is enough to help drown out ambient sound and help keep her asleep.”

“Em…” JJ started.

Emily launched into an explanation, “Rosalie was placed with Tyler about three weeks after we started dating, while her biological mom went to rehab and did some parenting classes. A couple months ago CPS sent Rosalie back to her bio mom for a trial reunification. Unfortunately her mom failed a random drug screen and then missed a check in with the case worker so she was re-apprehended and returned to us. Once she came back, she started calling me Momily and neither of us have had the heart to stop her. CPS started the process of terminating her bio mom's parental rights last week. She's Tyler's tenth foster placement but the first she's ever considered adopting." Emily's explanation came out almost in a single rushed breath, her anxiety evident as she chewed on a thumbnail.

“Motherhood looks good on you,” Garcia said softly, covering Emily’s hand with her own. Emily reddened and dropped her gaze to study the granite under her hands.

“I just….I never knew how to bring it up with the team. It felt like enough of a shock when you all met Tyler the idea of piling on that we’d been created this little family so quickly...I didn't know what to say."

"It suits you Em. I always knew it would," JJ said quietly, reaching out to squeeze Emily's hands.
