Chapter Text
There’s a slight breeze blowing through the open curtains of the bedroom. The birds are chirping, sun shining through. Piers is laying in bed, sheets tossed below his bare torso. He glances next to him to see the other half of the bed empty, the sheet is pulled down completely, the indents of Chris’s body still imprinted in the old mattress.
He turned his body over onto his back and stretched his arms out. His eyes wandered around the room, until they met a photo that was framed on the wall. It was a photo of the day he was finally released from the hospital. Chris had organized a little gathering with their close friends and they snagged the moment at the end of the night.
Smiling, he swung his legs off the bed and unplugged his phone, quickly sending a good morning text before making his way towards the bathroom. Their shared quarters were tightly organized, with all his products neatly placed on his side of the countertop.
Throughout his normal routine, his eyes were glancing towards his phone, hoping to see it light up, but it never did. Setting his toothbrush back into its little cubby, he walked out of the bathroom and down the stairs to the kitchen. Dishes from the night prior were now neatly placed into the drying rack. Chris must’ve done them before leaving this morning. Much to people’s assumptions, the man was very organized at home, at work on the other hand, he was not. Before opening the fridge, he noticed a small post it note.
“Piers,
HQ called, a sudden meeting with TerraSave was issued and I was requested to attend.
I’ll be back by lunch, xxx”
A meeting with TerraSave. today of all days. Piers thought but shrugged, closing the fridge and gathering his keys before walking out the door.
Their property was surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers lining the gravel path. The sole sight of the landscape had made Piers fall in love with the place the moment he laid eyes on it.

The drive wasn’t long at all, a mere 5 minutes. Arriving at the base he headed straight for the gym, training had been scheduled for this morning and he was running a little late.
“Morning everyone!” Piers shouted as he walked into Alpha’s private training quarters.
“Morning!” They responded, giving the man some bright and wide smiles. “We started warmups while we waited, Sir.”
“Good! Sorry, usually Chris wakes me up, but he had to rush out of town early today."
It wasn’t news to the team, the men and women of Alpha Team were aware and supportive of their relationship. The two soldiers were role models to the newer recruits, from Chris’s extensive list of accomplishments to Piers’s ultimate sacrifice in 2013.
“Alright team! Attention” Piers demanded, everyone quickly lined up and stood straight.
Training consisted of close combat, weight training and basic exercises. The team was looking good, the improvement had been incredible the last couple of months and now they were finally being sent out on their first mission. More importantly, Piers’s first mission back as a B.S.A.A field agent after being cleared of the C-Virus.

Hours had passed, the team was tired but still energetic, Piers watched over as they did one-on-one combat rounds, his attention drifted across the room to the clock, 11:36 it read, Chris said he would be here by lunch but hasn’t as much as replied to his text. “Keep up the good work everyone, I’m just going to make a quick phone call.” Making his way out the room, he tapped one of the numbers from his recents list, not like he couldn’t just dial it himself, he had it memorized the minute he first joined the BSAA.
RING ~ RING ~ RING
Piers huffed in annoyance and pressed the phone closer into his ear.
RING ~ RING ~ RING
“Come on Chris, answer!” He grunted, shaking his head slightly.
RING ~ RING ~ RING
-Hi, you’ve reached Chris Redfield, I am unable to answer the phone right now- PIERS I DON’T SOUND LIKE THAT! Shush it Cap’n! *Clears throat* I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. -
He let out a deep sigh “That’s just great...”
“Everything alright, Piers?” A female voice echoed behind him, he turned around with a faint smile on his lips.
“Yeah Jill, everything’s fine.” Piers replied, but his face said otherwise.
“Come on, spill it! What’s going on?” Jill asked, leaning against the cold wall.
“Chris and I were supposed to meet up for lunch and he isn’t answering my calls or texts, and it’s just…”
“Just what?”
“You know what day today is, I was hoping he’d be here with me, he SHOULD be here, you know?” Piers said, his left hand instinctively rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“That’s cute, and I get it, but don’t forget you’re Piers Nivans! Plus I’m sure he’ll show up soon. The big goof can’t stay away from you for more than 2 seconds.” Jill laughed, placing her hand on his shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.
“Thanks Jill. It’s crazy how dependent of each other we’ve gotten.”
“Hey! It’s not crazy Piers! You’ve been through hell and back, and you two got a second chance at life, what would be crazy is to let it go to waste. Besides, it gets lonely being by oneself all the time. I'm happy you two finally found each other, I can see how the light returned to Chris’s eyes since you’re back.” Jill said, pushing herself off the wall and taking a few steps towards him, her arms opening, asking for approval.
Piers smiled, and accepted the hug, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, bringing her into a tight hug. “Thanks Jill, we’d be lost without you though.”
“Well duh! Now enough of all this sentimentalism! Get back in there, mister! You’re still on the clock!” Jill yelled as she turned on her heels, a smile forever plastered on her face.
Piers watched as she disappeared around the corner, smiling as he walked back into the training quarters.

Almost another hour had passed, alpha team were now in their locker room, fresh out of the showers and heading to the diner. Piers dismissed the last remaining recruits when he noticed his phone light up on the bench, a picture of Chris smiling was being displayed. He couldn’t help but grin as he redirected his attention towards it.
“Alright, good job you guys! Remember, 4 sharp! Have everything ready by then!” Piers shouted for all of them to hear, as he walked quickly towards the bench and snatched his phone.
“Bear, where are you!!?” Piers yelled into the receiver.
“Piers, I’m-“ CLICK.
“Damnit!” He redialled the older man's number.
-Hi, you’ve reached Chris Redfield-
“For fuck’s sake! I always tell you to charge your phone at night!” Shaking his head, he slid the phone into his pocket and sighed. Shutting his locker, he recollected himself and took a breath before heading out.
