Good old fashioned loverboy

Summary:

On Remus' 18th birthday The Marauders decide to throw him a classic common room party and Sirius has decided that tonight is finally the night to tell Remus the truth - he is in love with his best friend. And and when his faviroute Queen song comes on he knows just what to do.

Notes:

I hope you enjoy this happy wolfstar one-shot - it is not often we, as Marauders fans, get happy fics so I thought I'd give it a try!

Work Text:

Throughout Hogwarts the Marauders were famous for many things. Their pranks were renowned throughout the halls and when students saw the four friends sneaking around they knew it would be a fun day. However, what people really loved about the Marauders were their parties. Every so often the four boys would host parties in the Gryffindor common room and all of the sixth form was invited apart from their least faviroute Slytherins, Snivellus included.

Sirius particularly loved these parties because it was a chance for him to show off his truly extraordinary dancing and singing skills. People would wait in anticipation for Sirius to stand on a table and give what he believed to be a beautiful and perfect rendition of Bowie or Queen. He had zero shame when it comes to showing off, it was when he felt the most comfortable. However right now he felt an emotion rather unexpected for him; nervous.

Sirius Black, nervous – ha! If James knew he would shit his pants at the thought of it. But James didn’t know. James knew everything apart from this: why Sirius was so nervous. There was only one thing, one person, who could make him feel like that. Remus John Lupin. Yes, tonight was the night he was going to tell Remus how he really felt towards him. How he wanted to kiss him and hold him as if the world were ending. Of course, he wouldn’t be telling Remus if he didn’t think Remus felt the same. He had seen Remus staring at him; more often than not they would catch eyes as Sirius went to stare at him and Remus would smile shyly, as he always did, and blush slightly before looking back at his book. Sirius wasn’t that great when it came to love or feelings like that but he was sure that friends don’t blush like that when they catch eyes.

Sirius skipped into the common room where Peter was helping James finish hanging up a sign that read ‘happy birthday Remus’. Was Sirius a dick for picking Remus’ birthday to tell him how he feels?
Sirius wasn’t sure - he just knew he couldn’t wait any longer.

“Thanks Pete. Oh Pads when you go get Remus can you leave a note just outside the portrait with the password for the common room on – I haven’t had time and I still need to get changed” James said with a slight tone of stress in his voice.

“Oi Potter, you’re not stressed are you?” Sirius looked up and saw Lily looking down at the boys from the balcony.

“Me? Captain of the quidditch team and Head boy. Pff I don’t get stressed” James said with a smirk and running a hand through hair.

“You can’t fool me dickhead. Now stop stressing and go get changed so we can get this party started. Marlene is dying to show everyone her new dress” Lily said with a slight roll of her eyes before turning and retreating into the girls dormitory.

“Mate, you’ve only been dating for a month but that girl knows you inside out” Sirius grinned and ruffled his best friends hair.

“What can I say, she’s just completely besotted” James let out a lop-sided grin before disappearing up the stairs with Pete to get changed. Sirius moved over to a table and scribbled ‘PASSWORD:
HUNGARIAN HORNTAIL’ onto a piece of paper. He walked out and used a sticking charm to hang the piece of paper next to the portrait of the fat lady.

“Having another party Black?” She asked loudly.

“You know me” He said with a wink before shoving his hands in his pockets and turning to walk towards the library. As he walked through the halls of the castle he nodded to people who he was sure were on their wat to the Gryffindor common room. Sirius laughed to himself: classic amazing Remus still in the library when his own birthday party was starting. God he loved that about Remus so much – that boy always had his nose in a book. Sirius loved to just watch him curled in a corner by the fire, reading, his sandy blonde curls covering his face slightly, the fire flickering against his face.
Sirius walked into the library and strolled over to Remus’ faviroute spot by the window. He was of course reading but Sirius walked over and snatched the book from his hands.

“Sirius. Give it back” Remus looked up at him with an eyebrow raised and a look daring him to do something else. Sirius lifted the book in the air and Remus rolled his yes and stood up walking over to get it.

“Moooonyyy you have a party to be at. And not just any party. Your 18th birthday party. And I would just like to add that you are in fact late” Remus plucked the book out of his hands and looked down at Sirius.

“I was just coming Pads no need to stress” Remus smiled slightly and carefully placed the book back upon a nearby shelf. Sirius grabbed Remus’ arm as soon as he had and dragged him out of the library.

“I don’t understand how you’re so chill – I am beyond excited to boogy. Like the groovy man I am” Sirius said jokingly.

“If you ever use the word boogy again I will personally shave your hair” Sirius let out a gasp

“You wound me Mr Moony” Remus let out a laugh and gave Sirius a little shove. Sirius’ breath caught in his throat at Remus’ laugh that just sounded so perfect it was beyond words. They arrived at the fat lady portrait and could hear ABBA being played at an extremely high volume and people singing even louder along with it.

“Hungarian Horntail” Remus said softly and the portrait swing open.

“MOONY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY” James shouted and grabbed him in a big hug. Remus smiled awkwardly and accepted the drink that James passed into his hand.

“Thanks Prongs” he said with a laugh and moved over to a sofa at the side of the room. James danced his way back over to Lily who giggled when he grabbed her waist and spun her, planting a kiss on her lips.

“Oi Sirius. You gonna dance with me or what?” Marlene laughed tapping him on the shoulder. Sirius laughed and gave her a spin as ‘Come on Eileen’ began playing.
The party ensued and there was music and drinking and what Sirius liked to call boogying. Remus joined for the occasional dance but often retreated back to his sofa to engage in quiet conversation with different people. Sirius on the other hand was extremely drunk and when it struck by midnight he was downing another can of beer and the room was spinning.

Suddenly a new song started playing:

'I can dim the lights and sing you songs full of sad things
We can do the tango just for two'

“I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG” Sirius shouted at James who was snogging Lily’s face off.

“SO DO I MATE BUT I’M KIND OF BUS-“ He manged to get out before Lily pulled him for another kiss. Sirius shrugged and laughed.

'Ooh, love, ooh, loverboy
What're you doin' tonight, hey, boy?
Set my alarm, turn on my charm
That's because I'm a good old-fashioned loverboy'

Sirius was dancing an singing along to Queen whom he adored. And as the song continued he couldn’t help it but he moved up on to the table – everyone expected it, this was a Sirius speciality. As he was up there singing along he caught Remus’ eyes who were looking at him deeply.

Remus. How could he forget his plan to tell him – he could hardly get out a sentence what was he going to do? Then an idea struck him. ‘Courage Sirius’, he thought, – ‘you ran away from home, you defied all of the noble house of shitting black and you’re scared of this one little thing, you’re a fucking Gryffindor. Come on’. Sirius locked eyes with the boy he was madly in love with, pointed at him and stepped off the table.

“Say the word your wish is my command - Ooh, love, ooh loverboy” He sang as he stepped towards Remus, keeping his eyes on him. He knew the whole room was watching him now but he didn’t care, he wanted to do this. No, he needed to do this.

As the music surrounded him he extended his hand out to Remus, giving a grin. Remus smiled and blinked slowly, clearly weighing his options. Remus took his hand and stood up and began dancing with Sirius. Sirius laughed and continued singing.

“When I'm not with you. Think of you always” He sang to Remus as he led him up on to the table, their faces tantalisingly close. The chorus was coming back round and Sirius new this was his chance, his moment it was now or never.

'Ooh, love, ooh loverboy'

Sirius grabbed Remus’s face and kissed him. Remus broke away a look of surprised filling his face. ‘Oh no’ Sirius thought, ‘he doesn’t feel the same’.

“Remus I-“ Suddenly Remus grabbed Sirius’ waist and pulled him in for another kiss. Sirius felt fireworks explode in his mind, it was something he'd never experienced before - a high that of course no drug other than Remus fucking Lupin could have given him. They broke apart – Sirius was vaguely aware of people cheering around him and whistling but all he could think about were Remus’ amber eyes staring into his.

'That’s because I’m a good old fashioned loverboy'

The last beat of the song played.

“Happy birthday Remus” Sirius offered shyly – he hadn’t thought about what would happen after he had executed his plan.

“I love you Sirius” Remus said his eyes burning into Sirius’. Sirius grinned slowly.

“Well obviously I love you too, I just fucking kissed you didn’t I” Remus let out a burst of laughter and kissed him again.

Sirius knew there was a war brewing, and that when he left Hogwarts he would be fighting for his life – hell he might even die, but in that moment it didn’t matter.

Because Remus John Lupin loved him.
