Work Text:
Daffodils
Soonyoung is staring at Jihoon.
Which is not a surprise, he has been doing that for a long time. His friends would always catch him daydreaming or staring at him with a loving gaze as they shake their heads because Soonyoung is in “Jihoon Land” again, or that’s what they call it.
They’re currently at a café just across the flower shop that Jihoon is working at. Soonyoung is seated by the window, hands propped up on his chin as he spins his, now lukewarm latte, Jihoon is on the other side of the street busy working to tend to customers requests. Chan, who has come and accompanied him after promising him to treat him, waves a hand in front of his face. Soonyoung immediately backtracks, focusing on what’s in front of him.
“Hyung, why don’t you just go there? It’s very clear you’d rather be across the street than here.” Chan says as he sips his tall sized caramel macchiato.
“And only make a fool of myself for the 400th time? No thanks… besides he seems busy.” he looks down, rubbing the rim of the cup he’s holding and takes a sip. “I don’t want to be a distraction to him making such pretty bouquets.”
“You make a fool of yourself anyway. Whenever you are within Jihoon hyung’s reach you stumble your words and sometimes trips on air. When I first heard it from Wonwoo hyung, I didn’t believe it.” Chan teases, taking a bite off the cake he also ordered. “You? Soonyoung hyung? The leader of our dance team and teaches children and teens dancing almost everyday, trips and falls? Impossible. Then you took me there and I still couldn’t believe it.”
“Yah, I didn’t treat you just for you to tease me,” he glares.
“Then what am I here for? I am cheering you on but you’re too scared to make a move.” Soonyoung hears the loud sip of the straw from Chan where you have already finished the drink and only ice are left at the bottom of the cup.
“What would I even say to him?” Soonyoung asks. Heart beating rapidly just thinking about it. He daydreams a lot about Jihoon. Owning a house, with a garden at the back for Jihoon and his plants, lined with white fences. And maybe they’d play with the hose for fun as they would bask in the beautiful sunlight hitting their faces.
But in this reality, every time he talks he rambles things too much. And Jihoon just lets him because he’s too nice to interrupt Soonyoung. And when Soonyoung manages to catch himself, Jihoon would just laugh it off. And it would instantly melt Soonyoung’s heart because that melodious sound is like angels singing in his ear.
“Try asking him out on a date!” Chan suggests and Soonyoung is back to his senses.
“What?! Are you crazy?!” Soonyoung says too loudly that some people in the café turned their head towards them. He mumbles a quick sorry.
“A date! A friendly date if you want to start things slow. But wouldn’t you like that? You’d actually get to know Jihoon hyung more than just imagining it.” Chan adds.
And honestly he wants to. So bad but can he even try to ask him out? God just imagining it is making his head spin.
“Come on, finish your latte and we’ll set you up on a date”
🌸🌸🌸
“Good Afternoon! Welcome to Smile Flower shop, I will be there to assist you in just a second.” Soonyoung hears Jihoon greets somewhere in the shop. His heart beats faster. Just walking across and hearing the bell is enough to make Soonyoung’s heart drop but now hearing his voice, he feels like jello.
“What can I do for you-Oh” And there he is. Even though Soonyoung has been watching him a while ago, Jihoon looks better up close. His fair skin, plump cheeks and cute eyes, as his bangs sweeps just above them. He truly looks like a magical fairy.
“It’s just you two. Finally I could relax a bit,” Jihoon sighs, “What brings you guys into my store? Want to buy something?”
“No actually, Soonyoung hyung here just wants to ask you about something” Chan speaks up.
“Oh sure, what is it?” then Jihoon looks at him.
Now he knows he felt like a jello a while ago but now his body is hard as a rock. Like try as he might, he doesn’t think he can lift his arms.
Chan nudges him with his arm. Signaling him to ask him out already. So he opens his mouth.
“I-I was wondering if you have spare time over the weekend to hangout maybe? I could treat you for lunch if you’d like? Only-Only if you are free of course. You don’t have to agree if you are busy with something else or you have plans-OW!” Soonyoung glares at Chan who has pinched him on his arm.
“You’re rambling” Chan’s eyes says. Soonyoung pouts but turns to Jihoon again.
And Jihoon just stares at them. “Is his mind drifting off? Did we catch him at a bad time?” Soonyoung thinks.
“Uhm- You’re probably tired. You should probably rest over the weekends, y’know, maybe another time tho-“
“No!” Jihoon cuts him off. “I-I mean I’d love to. It’s nice to go out once in a while.” He says his cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
“Great that’s settled” Chan claps. “Both of you should meet here at your given time, I’m sure both of you would enjoy the weekend. So you two work out what you guys want to do okay? Great. Well I’ll be heading home now, I promised Hansol hyung to help him with… something. Take care guys Bye!” Chan quickly says and immediately runs outside to go home before giving Soonyoung a thumbs up through the window.
“Sooo,,, Saturday?” Soonyoung says after a long pause.
“Is it alright if it’s a bit late? I tend to oversleep in the morning.” Jihoon suggests.
“Does 3pm sound good?”
“Sounds perfect.”
“Great. You could- uhm just text me whenever you’re ready and where you wanna go.”
“Sounds like a plan” Jihoon smiles.
And since Soonyoung is the whipped fool he is, he smiles as well. “Great well, thank you- for uh accepting. I can’t wait for it.”
“Same here.”
Soonyoung scratches his head, now awkward not knowing what to do next. “I should probably go as well. Y’know a lot of dance routine to look over.”
“See you, Soonyoung” Jihoon waves as Soonyoung reaches the door’s handle.
“See you at Saturday.”
“Saturday” Jihoon repeats.
And because Soonyoung doesn’t have a lot of self control, he ends up saying it before his mind could catch up. “It’s a date. I mean HANGOUT- I meant Hang out, late… lunch…. Yeah I should go Bye!” And Soonyoung closes the door loudly and runs as fast as he could.
“It’s a date” Jihoon whispers happily by himself when he sees Soonyoung’s figure turn to a corner.
🌸🌸🌸
Soonyoung remembers the first time he met Jihoon. He was wandering around the city trying to look for something to inspire him. He have been assigned to choreograph a dance to a boy group for heir comeback. And it’s Soonyoung’s biggest project as of yet. Usually he would just add ideas here and there for the other choreographers, but now they’ve seen his talent. And entrusted him with making a choreo for a boy group having as spring comeback. So naturally the concept is bubbly and cheerful.
He has some steps down but there’s just some dance steps that are missing. Something that others would easily dance to even if they are just sitting down.
His legs apparently led him to a flower shop, he doesn’t know why. But he steps in anyway.
It’s quiet inside with the noises from the outside muffled. There are shelves filled with pots, and flowers of all kinds. With minimal decorating on the wall.
“Hello welcome to Smile Flower shop, How can I help you” Someone at the counter speaks up.
The staff has pink hair and from what Soonyoung can see, he is a bit shorter than Soonyoung. And cute His mind supplies.
“Uhm honestly I wasn’t planning on buying flowers. I was just trying to find inspiration on something. Maybe flowers could help me, now that I hink about it.” Soonyoung answers.
“Can I ask what is it for?” The staff asks.
“Well I work as a choreographer. And this is my first time making a whole choreography by myself for an idol group’s comeback. You think you could help me?”
“Well I know some things about music, but not enough to form a dance. Though I might have flowers just for you” The pink-haired guy then steps off the barstool chair behind the counter and walked around the shop.
A few minutes later he finds the guy holding, what seems to be, a bundle of some kind of white flower. The guy then grabs a tissue paper, scissors and ribbons and Soonyoung just magically watch as the guy assembles these white flowers with yellow accents in a pretty little bouquet.
“Here. These are Daffodils” The guy says after tying the bouquet together with a pretty bow in the middle. “Daffodils means new beginnings and coming of spring. Which comes I hand with your problem I think.”
Extremely amazed by the staff’s craftsmanship he looks at the bouquet with amazement. “Wow, you’re amazing- I mean these are amazing. I’ll take good care of them as long as I can thank you, uhm-"
“Jihoon” he smiles.
“Thank you, Jihoon-ssi. I’ll definitely come back for more”
Ringing up how much it costs, Soonyoung then pays for it with his card. As he walks home having ideas already for the dance. And maybe it isn’t just his job that he’s starting a new beginning with, but with another person as well.

Tulips
Soonyoung and Jihoon’s first date-Hangout went great. They went to a small cozy ramen restaurant that Jihoon knows- The lady working there even mistaken them for a couple which made them look like 2 ripe tomatoes.
He learned a lot about Jihoon that night. And they enjoyed their each others company. Even if Soonyoung would look like an idiot, he’d do anything just to hear Jihoon’s laugh and see that gorgeous smile with his dimples coming out of him.
Soonyoung and Jihoon became closer after that night. Soonyoung would visit Jihoon everyday in the store just to talk to him. He still blushes and trips over his words but he’s getting to know more and more about the younger.
They hangout often now too. Sometimes they’d invite the other to their own apartment because they don’t have the energy to talk to people. So they would just watch Anime they feel like watching and call a pizza place.
Soonyoung ended up looking for his advice from his hyungs (read: Jeonghan and Seungcheol hyungs.) Because Wonwoo and Jun were no help.
And apparently they know Jihoon as well. Seriously is he the only one that doesn’t know about Jihoon? Though he learned from his Jeonghan hyung that Jihoon has been talking about him here and there when they do talk. He also got his life threatened, which Soonyoung’s not gonna lie, was pretty scary.
He asked for date ideas that Jihoon might like. They suggested the usual romantic places. Han river, the beach, a fancy restaurant. But what Soonyoung decided on was the Amusement park.
“Jihoonie likes the firework shows on amusement parks. You could see sparks in his eyes when he watches one. Literally and methaporically.” His Seungcheol hyung says.
Soonyoung later ends up buying the tickets online.
🌸🌸🌸
Jihoon is waiting for Soonyoung again. In front of his apartment.
The older went in on Monday, more tensed than usual. Jihoon didn’t know why, he thought he and Soonyoung were already comfortable around each other. Even if the other would trip over his words all the time, but still.
Turns out it was because the other planned to ask him out to go to the Amusement park.
“Are you asking me out on a date this time?” Jihoon had asked, smirking when he looks at the tickets the other had given him.
“Well yes- I mean no. I mean I’d love it if it was?” Soonyoung looked at him, cheeks red ever since he entered the store.
“You’re not sure if you do?”
“No, I’m not sure if you do”
“Then okay.” Jihoon halts his sentence. Adding a tense silence between them just to mess with the other. But eventually he laughs and said “It’s a date.”
Now he’s waiting for the other because Soonyoung said they’ll ride a car to get there. He’s wearing a floral polo with a yellow jacket. And then light brown pants. His outfit was chosen by Seokmin this time. He called him rather than Seungkwan because the latter would just criticize his closet again. His hair is styled normally, hair down but a bit curly this time.
He then sees a black car in front of him and he squints if it was Soonyoung. Turns out it was because the other hopped out of the car to greet Jihoon, then he opens the door. Soonyoung is wearing a simple sweatshirt with pastel stripes and then jean pants. But his hair has been styled to show his forehead and goddamn when will this man not look attractive.
“You excited?” Soonyoung asks as soon as he seats in the driver seat.
“Yep” Jihoon answers, voice a bit to high. His heart is beating as if he’s running a marathon. It just dawns on Jihoon now that they’re on a real date. And official one, and it’s just the two of them.
“Well it’s an hour long ride. You can sleep while I’m driving if you want? We did wake up too early.”
“Isn’t that rude?”
“Hmmm you’ll need energy there anyway, so try to get some rest while you can.” Soonyoung says while buckling his seatbelt. And Jihoon does the same.
And so they drove off. Soonyoung says he can even connect his phone to the radio to play music. He played songs that are either kpop or western songs. Most of them may or may not be Bruno Mars. He even thought of maybe playing his own song. But he doesn’t think he can do that just yet.
Eventually Jihoon does doze off. He was softly waken up by Soonyoung. Now if he hears that soothing voice everyday, maybe he doesn’t mind waking up in the wee hours of the morning.
They then went out of the car, Jihoon stretching to make himself fully awake. And then grabbing the ticket Soonyoung gave him from his wallet. It was still early, the line isn’t as long as Jihoon thought it would be. Their tickets got scanned and then they got the wristbands signifying that they can enter and exit within the day.
“What should we do first?” Jihoon asks once they are inside.
“Want to ride the roller coaster?” Soonyoung says as he looks at him, teasingly.
“I don’t think that’s a good start” Jihoon answers, looking at the roller coaster. People screaming in either fear or excitement.
“I’m kidding. Maybe some mini games first to get in the mood, then we’ll eat lunch. And maybe some rides?”
“Huh… seems like you already have everything planned out.” Jihoon teases.
“I like to be organized”
“Doesn’t look like it” Jihoon smirks and Soonyoung glares at him.
“How bout this, person who has the most prizes won will treat the other what meal they want.” Soonyoung suggests.
Of course Jihoon is overly competitive. He doesn’t back down to a challenge, especially with free food on the line. “Oh you’re on.”
So they started with some booth games. Catch as many ducks as you can, toss rings, shoot darts. There’s even one that let’s you play with toy guns, and aims to hit the figurines. Soonyoung was excited for that one because he claims to be an expert. They paid for 1 try each and were given 10 pellets to shoot the mini plastic figurines on the shelves.
Turns out he was right, Jihoon got a total of 5 figurines down, while Soonyoung managed to knock down 9 of them. Jihoon won a small stuffed toy cat, while Soonyoung got tiger plushie.
There are some games where they both didn’t win anything, and after a while they both started to get tired from walking around and declared the game is over.
Jihoon won. With a total of 8 wins, while Soonyoung got 7 wins. As Jihoon was celebrating free lunch, he doesn’t see Soonyoung’s fond smile.
Let’s just say Soonyoung let Jihoon win for the sake of treating him a meal.
They ended up buying some fried chicken and some side dishes at this space themed cafeteria. Jihoon waiting at a table while Soonyoung is in line ordering their food. They both enjoyed their lunch, talking about what should they do next and other random stories they like to tell.
Jihoon though offered to buy desserts. Soonyoung hesitated but Jihoon insists it’s a thank you for the free meal. In the end, Soonyoung agreed and Jihoon bought them Ice cream in a cup, and some churros.
After walking around for a bit to let the food digest, they settled on riding bumper cars. It’s not as scary as the other rides but it still holds a lot of fun to it. Soonyoung was good at it, since he does know how to ride a real car. But Jihoon doesn’t, he ended up getting stuck in one corner that a worker had to help him out.
Not his fault, Soonyoung would always bump his car and therefore hitting him in a corner where he can’t turn to get out. Soonyoung did feel bad after so he bought a can of coke as an apology.
Then Soonyoung brought up the rollercoaster ride again. Which as scary as it is, it’s still tempting to ride one so Jihoon agreed on one that isn’t too scary you’d puke. They settled on one that kinda looks like a mineshaft. The cart going inside a cave that Jihoon is unable to see the inside from the outside. What he does know is that the ride is fast and sometimes would tilt on its side.
They sat on the front of the cart. Jihoon’s heart racing either because of fear or adrenaline.
“You okay?” Soonyoung asks as he buckles his safety belts and so does Jihoon.
“Yeah, a bit scared but like in a good way y’know?” Jihoon answers as the workers check if their seatbelts are nice and secure.
When all passengers are safely secured, the handle bars are then lowered to provide more safety. And the ride starts slowly as it goes up a bit.
“If you want, you can hold my hand if you’d like?” Soonyoung suggests, holding his palm up.
The drop isn’t that big but Jihoon holds Soonyoung’s hand with no hesitation. And the ride drops down fast into a mini spiral.
The ride was fast, Jihoon felt like his soul was left behind. Theres one where it slows down as it climbs up a hill only for it to go backwards and straight into the cave Jihoon saw at the entrance. There’s a lot of shouting, Jihoon doesn’t even know if he’s shouting himself.
The cave was pretty, full of pretty crystals and jewels on the wall. Then there were animatronic bears. As they roared, smoke comes out and the ride starts again. This time it’s the one that tilts on its side. Tilting on Soonyoung’s side he tries not to squash the other too much but it ended up looking like he’s leaning his head on the older’s shoulder.
The ride finally slows down and comes to a stop. Jihoon and Soonyoung’s throat sore from the shouting.
They exited the ride and Jihoon noticed they still have their hands linked. And strangely it feels nice having Soonyoung’s hand fit into his. Soonyoung also notices but he just smiled and asks, “What’s next?”
They tried a lot of rides after that. Some hot air balloon ride that spins as it goes up and down, the spinning tea cup, the ride that you have your feet off the ground it felt like you’re flying. Soonyoung somehow convinced him to ride the carousel. Instead of horses tho, this one was forest themed. And of course Soonyoung chose the tiger ones to ride on.
Getting dizzy with all the rides, they decided to take a break. Some booth games again or just sitting on a bench eating a snack.
Then Soonyoung had the genius idea of, “Lets go to the haunted house!”
Jihoon hates the haunted house. But he agreed anyway because Soonyoung looks so excited. And so they wait in line.
Jihoon is nervous but he tries to hide it anyway. Soonyoung would check up on him and he’ll tell him he’s fine.
God what have you gotten yourself into Lee Jihoon?!
Then it was their turn. The thing about this was it had a mini maze inside. Every wrong move is a jumpscare waiting to happen. And Jihoon tries to hide himself behind Soonyoung, and the latter would just put a hand around him and guide him when he closes his eyes.
Then there were too many jumpscares for Jihoon to take. Soonyoung ended up pausing their walk and talks in a soft voice, “Jihoonie look at me okay? It’s okay. I’ll protect you hmm?” And he continues to talk in a soft voice.
Soonyoung leaning to his forehead, but just about Soonyoung’s lips would touch his forehead another jumpscare popped out, surprising both of them. Making Jihoon’s head and Soonyoung’s chin crash together.
Jihoon almost punched the guy, good thing he has self control and that it was just a mannequin attached to something.
To Soonyoung he might think he almost punched the thing because of the jumpscare. But really Jihoon was just petty that Soonyoung was supposed to kiss him to just stop because of he said jumpscare.
They continued their way out. Good thing they were near the exit because Jihoon doesn’t think he could hold on to more creepy noises and things popping out of nowhere.
Soonyoung guided him to a bench and told him to wait. Jihoon had the time to catch his breath and think… omg he almost kissed me omg-….
Soonyoung came back as he was spacing out. The cold water bottle pressed on his cheek startled him out of his trance.
“You could’ve told me no, you know?” Soonyoung says as he rubs his back.
“Well... I wanted to try anyway. I thought I could handle it. I didn’t think it would be that scary.” Jihoon pouts.
Soonyoung chuckles, “I’ve never seen someone tried to punch someone in a haunted house before.”
Jihoon smiles and they sat peacefully watching other people pass. When Jihoon has regained enough energy, they started to roam around again.
They didn’t talk about the ‘almost kiss.’ They just wandered around aimlessly, looking at gift shops in between.
Jihoon ended up buying an iron man keychain when he saw one at a gift shop.
After roaming around the skies turned to its pretty sunset colors. Jihoon and Soonyoung were getting pretty tired so they decided to ride the Ferris wheel. At least they’d get a good view of the sun setting.
The Ferris wheel has the enclosed in a glass cart instead of the ones where you can feel the air breeze. They sat opposite to each other, because they were scared it would be unbalanced.
When the doors closed, they escalated and waited for other people to ride the other carts. The sounds outside were now muted, Jihoon enjoying the cool air inside, not like the outside air was hot. But it gets pretty suffocating when there’s too many people in one place.
“Sooo,” Soonyoung starts “did you have fun?”
“It was fun,” Jihoon answers, “Even the haunted house was fun as much as it scared me.”
“That’s good I’m glad you enjoyed.”
Jihoon hums. Looking at the sunset as the Ferris wheel now move continuously. It’s slow but it’s nice looking at the sunset.
As Jihoon was looking at the sunset, Soonyoung was fully looking at Jihoon. His hair that is now more frizzy than when they arrived. His mole under his eye, his think pink lips and oh god did he apply chapstick because it is shiny.
Jihoon was admiring the sunset when Soonyoung’s hand caressed his face. He looked at the older, the other looking at him with a smile on his face as he continued to caress his cheeks. Then like magnet, they move towards each other. Both of them closed their eyes, knowing what’s about to happen.
But they didn’t expect the Ferris wheel malfunctioning, resorting to jiggling the cart, making their foreheads bump into each other. They both groan because of the impact and they hear the speaker inside ring as a voice says “We’re sorry to interrupt but there seems to be a malfunction in the system. Do not panic as we would resolve the issue as quickly as we can. Thank you for understanding.”
Both were in shock because they are trapped inside. They aren’t the ones at the top, but somewhat in the middle. And second, they almost kissed again. And was- rudely- interrupted, again!
The air inside now was awkward. Because it wasn’t like the haunted house. This was a real lips to lips kiss.
“Are you okay?” Soonyoung asks.
“I’m fine,,, you?”
“Good” he answers. “You have a bruise now on your forehead.” Soonyoung points out.
Jihoon lightly touches it and looks at Soonyoung. “You have one as well”
They laughed it off and apologized for the bruise. They tried to make small talk but it was still awkward. Maybe 10 minutes later the speaker spoke again, notifying them that the problem is solved. When their cart was on the ground both of them were relieved to they weren’t stuck there for long.
There was only one more thing to see before they could leave. And it was Jihoon’s favorite thing. The Fireworks show. They were trying to find a good spot to watch, but it was hard trying to move through a crowd. Eventually they find a good one to stay.
But Jihoon felt something was off. Soonyoung wasn’t as loud or energetic, could be because he’s tired but even his face looks sad.
“Hey are you okay?” Jihoon asks.
“Yeah,,, I’m fine.” He smiles but it’s not reaching his eyes.
But Jihoon was determined to end this day on a good note, so he tries to drag the other to a place where it isn’t as crowded.
“What? Jihoon we’re gonna lose our spot”
“Doesn’t matter. Tell me what’s wrong.” He pushes.
“Nothing? Now lets go back. The show’s about to start.” Soonyoung answers.
“Not until you tell me what’s wrong” Jihoon raises his voice a bit. Gladly no one seems to care since the show is about to start.
“Jihoon not now” Soonyoung pleads.
“Yes, now. Please tell me what’s wrong. Everything was going great until-“
“The kiss” Soonyoung cuts him off
“What?”
Soonyoung eventually sighs, and looks down, “I thought you must’ve felt uncomfortable when I tried to kiss you. I should’ve asked but I didn’t and now I don’t know what you feel. And I don’t want to be someone who makes you uncomfortable. Because… Because… Well I like you,” He confesses, “I really like you. But after I almost kissed you I was scared you’d hate me for it. I don’t want us to be strangers when I want something more than just friends.”
Jihoon stands there eyes wide and mouth unable to form words.
“You don’t have to say anything. Let’s go, we can try to find another spot” Soonyoung says, about to turn when Jihoon holds his hands.
“Wait you won’t even listen to my answer?”
“Answer to what?”
“Answer to your problem,” Jihoon smiles, “Because Kwon Soonyoung, I like you too.” He confesses just in time for the fireworks to go off.
Soonyoung is the one who is now wide eyed looking at Jihoon. “Is this for real? I’m not dreaming am I?”
“Yes. I really like you too, even if you look like an idiot most of the time. But it’s a part of you that’s charming. So I’d like it if we became more than friends as well.” Jihoon answers.
Jihoon doesn’t need the to see the fireworks. His most favorite thing to see now is Soonyoung’s eyes as he sees stars in them.
“So… you’d be my boyfriend?” Soonyoung asks, and Jihoon nods as a yes.
To Jihoon’s surprise, Soonyoung lifted him off his feet and twirls him around.
“Soonyoung! Let me down!” Jihoon orders as he hits him in he shoulders.
“Jihoonie~ my cute boyfriend Jihoonie~” He sings.
He eventually lets Jihoon stand on the ground again then asks “So I can kiss you now right?” and Jihoon nods again.
Soonyoung smiles as he caresses Jihoon’s face again. Holding his cheek in one hand, he leans down and kissed his lips he’s been dying to do. Their kiss was sweet, but exhilarating like the rides they’ve tried. And he can also feel fireworks setting off inside him as well.
They parted and went to try to locate somewhere where they can kinda see the fireworks. But Jihoon doesn’t care, he’s already experienced it.
“Y’know if I had a garden. I would plant tulips in them” Soonyoung says as they watch the remaining fireworks go off.
“Why?”
“So I could put our Tu-lips together”
“You’re so cheesy”
“You love me” And as they leaned in once again, he thinks Yeah he does love him.
