Work Text:

Marinette loved sleeping. Not a lot of things could make her wake up early, including her alarm clock which often remained ignored. But one of them was watching Adrien sleep.

Yes, she loved his wild and unstoppable nature. She loved his loudness and his jokes, something only she got to see because he trusted her. She’d learned to treasure that and miss it whenever he had to put his model persona on.

But there was something about how peaceful he looked when he was sleeping that she couldn’t get enough of either. She could watch the sun rays dance on his face for hours. Getting lost in the golden hair, tousled from sleep. Tracing the eyebrows and the eyelids that moved almost imperceptibly as he dreamt. Sliding down the slope of his nose to the nostrils that fluttered when he breathed. And finally dancing on the lips that always made her weak, even when they weren’t curved into a smirk that made her head spin or weren’t stealing the breath from hers.

In such moments, his lively and bubbly personality that she needed in her life gave way to an ethereal vision.

Sometimes she was afraid that she could blink and he would disappear, returning to the fairy tale land where he belonged.

She was used to seeing him like this in the rare occasions when she woke up before him. Ever since the very first night they’d fallen asleep together, she wished she could fight off sleep more often. Every time she managed to do it, she’d watched him so carefully that she couldn’t believe his claims that he usually was a restless sleeper. But Plagg confirmed how much nightmares had disrupted his sleep before.

The thought of her kitty caught in dark images and unable to escape from horrible scenarios made her heart ache. It was something that wasn’t foreign to her. She had her fair share of bad dreams, mostly starring him, especially losing him.

So she was happy that her presence, even when it was quiet and consisted of just sharing the same space as him, had this calming effect on him. This was another reason she loved watching him sleep, to feel the satisfaction of knowing that he looked so peaceful thanks to her.

Yes, she was tempted to lift a hand and trace his delicate features with her fingertips. To feel his breath tickle her skin, to smooth the light crease on his forehead as he faced something confusing in his dreams. The desire to lean in and capture his lips in a loving kiss was overwhelming at times. She was tempted, but she resisted. Soon, she reminded herself.

Very soon he’d stir and stretch like the big human cat he was. And those brilliant green eyes would open and take her in, lighting up with happiness and making her heart flutter anew. His arms would tighten around her and he would whisper her name and for a few precious seconds all would be right in the world.

Marinette wouldn’t give up these moments for anything, even a few more minutes of sleep.
