Negative.
Why did it have to be negative?
What does this mean about the future of our family?
Barry couldn't stop thinking about that after the test result revealed itself and after he went home.
His ecstatic mood from earlier had completely diminished, and he couldn't shake the feelings of confusion, doubt, and sadness that dwelt in him now.
Why did Nora say everything was going to work out?
Barry, of course, told Iris, who was also upset at the news after feeling so positive thanks to Barry and his dream she had heard about, but tried her best to encourage him by saying that this wasn't over.
It was still possible for them to have a child, have a family of their own.
Deep down, Barry knew that, but was sad because he was so sure that the dream he had of his daughter had to mean something, and that something, considering he saw Nora and that he and Iris had been trying recently, seemed to reveal all.
But now, all Barry felt left with was a feeling of negative emotions.
~~~
He lay down next to Iris that night, and trying to calm himself down from the events of the day, surprisingly drifted smoothly into a deep sleep.
When he awoke, sunlight was beaming through the windows brighter than it ever had in the loft before, and, most noticeably, Iris was no longer beside him.
He heard voices coming down from the stairs and, after he grabbed a sweater and some jogging pants, made his way down.
His surprise came when he was reaching the bottom few steps.
"Dad?" Nora, who was sitting on the couch, turned her head to face him, a smile beaming on her face.
It was then Barry realized he was having another similar dream as before, but again, why?
She got up off of the couch, wearing what she had been wearing in Barry's other dream, and came over to hug Barry, like they had hugged in the other dream.
"Don't you worry, dad," she was saying, as she looked up at him with loving eyes, "everything is going to be fine. Everything is going to work out. I promise ."
Then, something even more surprising happened.
Nora let go of Barry, and turned to face a room behind her.
"Bart?" She yelled, still smiling, "Come and say hi to dad."
Barry was confused as a son, his son appeared in the door frame, the smile on his face lighting up the same way it had on Nora.
His and Iris' son.
Bart.
"Dad?" Bart said, making his way over to Barry, also giving him a hug, and as he was doing so, said, "Like my twin sister said, dad, don't worry. Everything will work out, and we'll be here with you and mom before you know it."
Did he just say twin sister?
Twins??
Before Barry had the chance to really soak this all in fully, the door of the loft unlocked, and in stepped Iris.
"Here we are," she said, "our family."
And then he woke up, for real this time.
Iris still lay beside him, and the light that comes with the dawn had not yet broken through the curtains.
But Barry was now reassured, and was more hope-filled than ever after his dream.
He just needed some hope and reassurance, and that is what he got.
He just lay smiling at the ceiling.
Twins... he was thinking.
Just wait until I tell Iris about that!
