Work Text:

Under the chilly night, the bright moon looming over them and nature at its slumber, two boys sat in silence. One on a rock and the other sitting cross-legged on the grass. They sat in silence, enjoying what nature offered them during its hushed moments.

Kazuha was attempting to play a soft melody with a leaf. How? Scaramouche didn't know. But he enjoyed his music nonetheless so he didn't bother stopping him. Not to mention, a soft melody would shape this peaceful backdrop perfectly together.

It was the same night Scaramouche encountered the traveler, as well as that mage who dilapidated his plans to murder the traveler. The mere thought and reminiscence of it caused him to bitterly chuckle subconsciously. This caused Kazuha to look at him.

"Why are you laughing?" He asked in a soft tone. His voice was as gentle as the night's breeze and as silent as the leaves wavering in their trees.

"Just remembering something." Scaramouche answered, his voice mirroring Kazuha's. This was their relationship with each other. They could mutter little words, or simply be with each other silently, and it would never cause any discomfort or boredom. The mere presence of the other person was enough for them.

"What was it?"

Kazuha was such a curious soul, yet he was also always absentminded. He was as carefree and as friendly paced as the vision he wielded; Anemo. Always as gentle as the wind, yet having his harsh moments. It's these little aspects of his that Scaramouche loved.

"The stars are fake." He muttered as he stared at the dark sky. The sky was like a painting, a splash of white paint on a dark canvas; with the stars personified as tiny specks of white surrounding the moon. Although it was a pretty sight, the realization that it may all be fake seemed to ruin its beauty. "That means... the sky must be fake too."

Kazuha only stared. It made sense why the latter thought that, even he would come to that conclusion too. With his anemo vision and sword in hand, a light of turquoise green illuminated in the dark night.

"Then, I'll recreate the sky for you."

And Scaramouche has never witnessed such a beautiful painting before.

It was like a constellation, yet its beauty rivaled with the actual sky. A green display, an array of leaves moving in circles as yellow spots glittered and shone every once and a while. This 'sky' that Kazuha had made him was absolutely beautiful.

His eyes shone with the yellow glitter and his mouth falling agape. It was magical. It felt surreal. Scaramouche wondered if what he was seeing was even real or not.

However, good things always come to an end and before he knew it, the constellation of green and yellow disappeared with the wind. Despite the pool of disappointment, Scaramouche could not contain his smile.

He looked at Kazuha, who was already staring at him with what seemed to be anticipation. But the fondness in his gaze was enough for Kazuha to confirm that he loved the visual he performed for him.

And even if the painting that Kazuha illustrated just for Scaramouche, the 'sky' he fabricated out of air for Scaramouche, has ended. Scaramouche could not get the picture out of his head.

It was a painting that stuck to him for centuries.
