Bubblegum Toothpaste

Summary:

Mitsuki knew her son well, and she knew exactly how to get him to do what she wants.

Notes:

This is my headcanon of why Bakugo brushes his teeth so hard.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Mitsuki has a specific schedule engraved in her mind. And the first and last thing on her day-to-day list was brushing her teeth. Being a well-known model and all, it was important for them to be completely white and straight.

She wasn’t like all those other people at her agency, who secretly used teeth whitener and Invisalign retainers.

Although she saw nothing wrong with using them, Mitsuki took pride in her perfect teeth, and she’d make sure her son did too.

“Why? I’m gonna brush them in the morning anyways.” Katsuki says, crossing his arms. “Why does it even matter?”

“You don’t want clean teeth, Katsuki?”

“Don’t care.”

“Then I guess you’re nothing like All Might.”

“HAH?!” What are you talking about? I am! I’m the best! I’ll be just like him!”

“Oh? I don’t think so. All Might brushes his teeth every day. You don’t.” she taunts him while secretly smirking. Katsuki looks absolutely baffled with wide eyes and an agape mouth.

“Wait, what?”

“Oh, you didn’t know? That’s why he smiles all the time; he's showing off his teeth.”

He pouts by putting his bottom lip out. “That’s not true! You’re bogus.”

“I am not, you little brat!” Mitsuki puts her hands on her hips after setting down her toothbrush. “Okay- look at all your All Might posters in your room. In all of them, he’s smiling. Right?”

Katsuki steps off of the stool he was standing on to quickly run out of the bathroom. Mitsuki rolls her eyes.

A few seconds later, he comes trampling back in with an even poutier face.

“Well?” she says.

“And so what if he does? That doesn’t matter! He could have pink teeth for all I care!” he steps up on the stool again, level with the mirror.

She picks up her toothbrush, “You’re right, it doesn’t matter.” and turns the nobs on the sink to rinse it off. “But, I guess that’s one thing All Might will be better at than you.”

If Katsuki wasn’t already shell-shocked before, he definitely was now. And Mitsuki knows how competitive her son is - having known him his whole life - that this’ll get to him.

“What are you talking about, Hag?!” he jumps up and down from his spot on the stool.

“First of all, Don’t call me ‘Hag’,” she puts her brush in a cup holder on the counter, “second, since All Might cleans his teeth daily, and you don’t, there’s one thing he’s already beating you at.”

He’s silent for a few moments, as he stares down, deep in thought - like he’s contemplating the past three years of his life he’s been alive.

“Gimme my toothbrush.” he quietly states.

Mitsuki leans over to grab his... All Might toothbrush. She puts the bubblegum flavored toothpaste on the brush and adds a small amount of water. Handing it to him, he brushes his teeth silently.

Works every time. She thinks and watches Katsuki with determination in his eyes. This is only the first step.

Notes:

I think I’ll make art for this once I get the app I use to draw working again :)
