Work Text:

Josslyn Silva a new generational royal to the Silva family.

The granddaughter of the steel warrior Princess

The granddaughter of the first commoner to join the magic knights

The first daughter to a peasant and a royal

She was going to be an outcast since the very beginning. They were correct

Josslyn had been rebellious as soon as she learnt how to talk. She talked back to anyone who she’d merely disagreed with, wizard king or magic knight captain she couldn’t care less

Status is a word that didn’t exist in her vocabulary. Status was the reason her grandfather died and she promised that she’ll avenge him somehow

Starts with a simple step. Join the Purple Orcas
Next move?
Well the investigation on who killed Zara was never cleared, that only made her blood boil magic knights were supposed to protect the kingdom, the land and every single citizen

And don’t get her started on the “Silva” name that she carried so what if she was born with pink hair and green eyes?

She wasn’t gracious and elegant and she didn’t fight like a royal

Expectations angered her.
Control was just stupid.
Why do we have to be tarred down for being ourselves?

At the Purple Orcas base Josslyn was now facing her captain Kaiser after supposedly attacking some members of the crimson lion kings out of the blue

“Tea?” Kaiser pushed down the tea cup to Josslyn’s field she nodded in reply. Listening to her answer Kaiser took the tea pot in his hand and poured tea for the both of them.

“Josslyn you’re a formidable magic knight
that has done feats greater than any magic knight but I have to ponder why did you attack one of Fuegoleon’s men.”
Mentioning the assault Kaiser wriggled his eyebrows out of frustration

Josslyn could only laugh on the inside, her captain did look silly whenever he tried to take order

“I’ve mentioned this before those men weren’t being respectable to those residents! Sexual assault, damage to their language and not to mention riding at a limit they could of caused injuries to the passengers!”

To elaborate on what happened these magic knights were lend a mission to transport a group of residents from the village of Miroyed to the Noble realm of Berakyu though, these magic knights behavior was unbecoming and feral as to how Josslyn described them.
Sexual assault. Personal property belongings damage and not to mention their method of unsafe driving was off the rails.
Josslyn at the time was returning from a mission staying at a small town for lunch, the wagon went through the town seeing this despicable sight Josslyn relied on her biggest weapon, her fist.

Kaiser took another sip of his tea, looking back up to Josslyn.
“I already the discuss the matter with Fuegoleon, he claims that his knights apparently said it was a misunderstanding”

Josslyn furrowed her eyebrow.
“A misunderstanding?”
Coming up with a misunderstanding was probably the biggest bullshit Josslyn had heard all day aside from Nozel complaing About his missing comb.

Kaiser went on and on about his meeting with Fuegoleon that he forgot to ask Josslyn about the passengers in the wagon and their report.

Trying to remain calm was her best option.
Though the word. “Calm.” Didn’t friction well with her.

Slamming her hands on the desk silencing Kaiser Josslyn death glared at him
“Soo you choose to listen those jackasses over your own squad member! You didn’t even listed the victims and I was the one to interview them!”
Josslyn’s mana started to flare sakura-pink.

Kaiser gulped down the mana he felt was very intense for a 15 year old Josslyn lived up to her name.
The flaming Sakura of house Silva

Procrastinating Kaiser had to take a risk.
Taking out his grimoire he used his vortex magic to create a whirlwind around Josslyn settling her down.
The whirlwind had cause Josslyn to sit back down

“Josslyn Silva! We’ve already had this discussion about mana flare on anger, the last time you did that the vice captain had to be hospitalized.”
Josslyn grumbled underneath her breath hearing those words.

Why wouldn’t they listen to her?
Her tactics are harsh but for what purpose?
I mean come on there are people being murdered right now!
Her mind is seriously corrupting her.

Kaiser rubbed his temples, he wanted to break something. Exhaling out he returned to his calm nature. “Josslyn your dismissed for today if your not willing to have patience your uncle will might be able to knock some sense into you if you return to the Silva palace.”
There was no point in reacting
Josslyn rolled her eyes, got off the chair and slammed the door leaving Kaiser.

Returning to the Silva palace she walked into the Ideale headquarters with a stern expression.

Nebra was sitting down admiring the same white flowers the Zara adored in a gaze she didn’t notice Josslyn taking a seat beside her.
Josslyn was sat crooked on the chair, hands crossed, quivering her lip

Seeing how soft her mother eyes could be she didn’t want to ruin the moment with her winning, instead she thought the most reasonable solution would be slamming her head on the table this caused the table to shake pulling Nebra from her daze.

“What are you doing back here?” Nebra asked in a curious tone. Josslyn lifted her head up showing an exhausted expression bags underneath her eyes and all.

“Got dismissed today from the Orcas base” Josslyn Huffed
Nebra turned her chair to Josslyn. Using her hands she picked up her daughters chin off the table to face her.
Clapping both her cheeks Josslyn could only look at her shoes, the drops of hope were at its lowest her mind couldn’t talk but her body did.

“Mmmmm.” she groaned out.

“Josslyn look at me when I’m speaking to you.”

Josslyn lifted up her head, the green irises that sparkled the same way her grandfathers did she only wished to have that type of ambition he had have.
To have the same smile as him if only....

Feeling the sharp shock on her cheeks as Nebra clapped them she finally saw the expression of worry splashed across her mothers face.

She placed her hands over her mothers to take her hands off her cheeks, sitting up straight she slapped her own resulting in two red hand prints on both her cheeks

Quivering her lip Josslyn yelled.
“I’ll try harder next time!”
Nebra showed a rueful smile hoping if she actually meant those words.

“Now if you pardon my boorishness I need a VERY good nap.” Throughout the sentence Josslyn stood up, went to her bedroom door and just before finishing the sentence she clapped her hands together at the “VERY good nap”part before heading off into her bedroom.

Closing the door Josslyn was carrying a letter that was hidden in her robe that she stole off Kaiser’s desk.
Walking to her window Josslyn opened the window before opening the envelope she took out the piece of paper and started to read it.

“To Kaiser captain of the Purple Orcas there been a current botheration of a group of bandits attempting to smuggle drugs into the royal capital. I humbly request for you to send out a party of mages to apprehend these criminals and remove those drugs out of there possession

All regards the Wizard King
P.S Noelle wrote this because Asta didn’t understand half the words.”

Seeing the sunlight reflect on the letter there were words reflecting through. Turning the letter over there was an awful, scribbly, a little to vocabulary note that was challenging to read.

“Heya Kaiser! Asta here.
Can you send some of your squad mates to Rekyleon where drugs are going to be imported to the royal capital? Make sure to arrest the criminals and take the drugs with ya!

Love Asta!”

Josslyn had an unsure reaction
“Love Asta?....” was the most suspicious also stating his name at the top and also at the bottom? Damn how did her father put up with him for so long.

Josslyn put the letter on her desk with a paperweight over it. She felt too exhausted to function she fell on top of her bed awaiting her long nap.

Lifting up her eye lids the moon was already in view, her bedroom curtains blew as if they were dancing in the moonlight. Holding up her head Josslyn tried to remember what she was planning. Landing her eyes on the paperweight the memories came flooding in

It was go time.

Getting off her bed she moved out a chest from underneath her bed opening it was one of those chest where you could story dress up but in Josslyn’s case it stored something of most importance.

Her Vagilante suit
It was similar to Zora’s. The mask, belt, shoulder bag, bracelet, that weird fluff blanket too were all the
same
but a little bit of difference sprinkled in
A black bandage the would wrap around shoulders to her belt covering her chest and stomach. Instead of pants she wore shorts to her upper thigh

Putting on the suit Josslyn felt as if she had entered a new life.
Tiptoeing her way to her bedroom door she gently grabbed the door handle and pulled it down to where she got a small glimpse at her sleeping little brother who slumbered in the lounge, and the baby red fox that slept with him under the blue blanket.

Her expression was one filled with regret, she wanted to hug him but she didn’t feel like she was enough for him. She wanted to prove to Ace that she was a good sister that she can protect him.

Shutting the door she went towards the paperweight, to where she grabbed the letter underneath then placed it firmly in her short pocket. Turning to the window she managed to get both of her feet on the window sill before leaping out, the window continued to let the cold breeze in.

“A full moon huh…haven’t seen one of those since the witches forrest banquet Victoria and her mom dragged me to.”

Jumping from rooftop to rooftop she kept her paste sharp yet silent. Being a vigilante has both its cons and pros.

Continuing to leap and leap over every rooftop she was able to get a chance of seeing some families still up at this hour. Some families waiting for their love ones to return from work. Some maids cleaning while their masters slumber. Some only having their dinner. While others were having too much fun at the bars….tsk.

Josslyn has only had a sip from her mother’s wine glass once. Wine tasted like the poisonous stuff in puffers.

“Hey nice job kid, keep on pushing!!!”

That….voice….

Josslyn’s paused in her steps. She stood to her ponytail flowed within the winds nightly waltz, her black silhouette matched with the moon shining behind her. Almost as if she were a superhero.

Lightly placing a hand on her ear, her forceful exhalation through perused covered lips.

Eyes sparkling she knew it was her mind only playing pranks on her. She switched back to her determined expression as she begun hoping onto more buildings in front of her.

~In Rekyleon~

“Mommy! Mommy! Look at this!.” A little girl with twin braids pulled her mother by the hand. The lanterns swarmed the village, even at a midnight they still stood tall. A shady guy in the corner stood out from the shadows. A dishonest smile plastered on his face.

“Come on mommy! If you don’t hurry the fireflies are going to dissapear!” With such an eager tone she let go of her mothers hand from the excitement she felt fluttering within her heart.

“Alright honey a little more quietly please it’s super late and you should be in bed by now.” The mother said, looking quite agitated.
The little girl stopped infront of the ally way waiting patiently for her mother to catch up. Though to what she was expecting a peaceful and exciting trip it was going to turn into something frightening and unforgettable. Suddenly someone grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into the ally way.

The mother rested her hands on her knees infront of the same ally way looking down, she assumed her daughter was only a couple of steps ahead of her.

Then all of a sudden somebody grabbed her wrist from right behind her.

“AAH!”
Her scream cut short when a hand placed itself on her mouth. Both the mother and daughter had been captured. The shady guy was super pleased with himself, he couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Now now, look at what we have here, I’ll bet you two will be worth a couple of hundred yule, or perhaps you two can be a present to whoever we sell our latest batch to.” He licked his lips as he pinned both girls to the wall. No drop of guilt spilt out of him.

“Shall let’s get going.”

A pair of mint green eyes peered from the rooftop up above witnessing the sight. As he walked out of the ally way Josslyn still kept her eyes fixed perceived on a fallen item of his.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.

“Aye! Everybody look what I brought back home.” His devilish tone made the entire group drop and turn. He boasted the two hostages as if they were brand new trophies.
Entering an abandon warehouse where an nobleman use to generate oil drums.

A guy sitting on an oil drum muttered profanities to himself. The shady guy noticed on this and acted right away.

“Oi, problem you got there big barb?”

He snorted when that jackass addressed him as “big barb”

“Was anyone suspicious.”

“There was no one to make suspicions about me in the first place, big barb.”
Throughout the entire sentence he pushed the two girls into the corner of the room where he pulled out some duck tape and chain them to an attached post.

Not impressed how he got addressed as “big barb” again.

“Show me your scroll.”

“Which scroll are you talking about?”

“The scrolls that are made to seem like we are magic knights, you buffoon.”

“Don’t get your panties into a knot.”
Now approaching where big barb sat, shady guy digged his hand into where the scroll should be sitting but there was one slight issue. It wasn’t there. His anxiety was beginning to escalate. Oh no. What If he got too busy catching the two hostages and got ahead of himself?! Sweat starting to spill.

“I called it.” Big barb said, before pointing to him. “I told you before you left to leave it here but no, you had to argue back and make yourself look like a fool in front of everybody.”

The other smugglers began to laugh at big barbs comment. Big barb rolled his eyes, they did not seemed worried about the upcoming event whatsoever, how typical.
Seeing everyone laugh at him made him turn red, more red compared to any rose.

Feeling something bouncing off his head he swivelled around to where he heard the thing had roll off to.

His complexion was one with utter confusion painted on. Did his scroll grow wings?! Why did it drop onto his head?!

He went down to open up the scroll to make sure it wasn’t any of the guy making fun of him. Opening the scroll a magic circle had been formed right on his fake scroll this made his arm suddenly fall into a deep slumber, resulting in him falling onto his stomach the crowd couldn’t be bother to ponder why he fell on his stomach except for big barb who moved his head up to see somebody sitting on the edge of a small narrow platform where they sat all their drugs packaged away into cargo. Seemingly twisting a part of her hair around her finger.

Widening his mouth he turned to one of the smugglers.

“WALLACE! CHECK IF JOSHUA IS STILL WATCHING THE GOODS!”
The sudden outburst changed the atmosphere. Wallace climbed the ladder to the small narrow platform to only see Joshua restrained on the ground knocked out restrained by spider webs. Planting one foot onto the platform, the person whipped her head to where he met her forceful glare.

“UH AHHHHH.”
A sakura-pink mana flared around her. Wallace didn’t understood how mana can attack a person without any attacks landing on them. His back hit the wall, slowly descending down to hug his legs but before he could do so this sakura-pink mana flaring beast went up to him to flick his forehead that ended with him denting the wall by how much pressure she bestowed on him.

She looked into the palm of her hand and saw the trap magic circle dissolve. During the blow she hadn’t become aware that her hair tie had snapped into two.

Walking away she threw both her hands on the railings to only push herself off to attack the smugglers from above. Generating another magic circle in midair to land on. The smugglers began to circle her from all possible angles.

One jabbed the magic circle from below which set off mist. Leaping off the magic circle Josslyn landed on one of their heads before launching off, then hoping onto another, then another, then another, on account jumping off another. Yet in midair she rested her eyes on the terrified mother and daughter.

“You have to make sure your spells are perfectly aimed and well timed, otherwise
an innocent might get caught in the crossfire.”

Words of advice came back to Josslyn, from captain Charlotte back in the time her and a couple of her comrades got stuck in the past.

Breathing from calm and gentle flow to the great filling of lungs after coming to the short conclusion, it’s all part of feeling alive and being right there in the given moment.

Josslyn was right in that given moment. Altering her leg to prevent her from kicking the smuggler into the mother and daughter to changing that fate to where she would kick the smuggler into the dry hard concrete. Standing on the smuggler she bent down to see if he was conscious or not by slapping his cheek twice. Not reacting to her slaps she took that as a sign. Picking him up by the legs with both hands and begun spinning him around. Majority of the smugglers got booted into the wall that would activate even more magic circles to bind them all up.

Big barb got off the oil drum and walked over to confront the little girl. His grimoire coming to his aid. Josslyn threw the guy she was using as a weapon, smashing his head into the wall activating one more magic circle.

Growing a massive growl his arm became coated in dirt and rocks.

“This bitch. Is he doubting my abilities because I look like an innocent little girl?!”
Rage was winning her over. But what comes with rage is motivation. Summoning a wheel of magic circles she spun them around her entire body meanwhile dodging every punch. Soon enough those magic circles would come to a halt right above her finger tips to where she also halted then enlarging those magic circles at a large capacity from where they would fly away from her fingertips and to around big barb to restraining his arms.

He let out a chuckle.
“Is that the best you got little girl?”
Squeezing his fist a glowing orange was beginning to rise. Breaking the magic circle his other arm transformed to dirt and rocks as well as an arm growing on his back coated in dirt and rocks.

Now with three times the power Josslyn needed to think fast. In the midst of brainstorming she continue to evade each and every punch he threw at her. Attempting to land on a wall to launch herself to see if she could have enough to force to knock his lights out. That plan was eventually shattered as he jolted an arm up to block her path. She landed rough on the ground. Josslyn steadily pressing herself up she could’ve have the chance to recover and return to her first plan, though that plan got ruined again when another arm appeared right above her and punched her into the ground.

“Turns out I overestimated you.”

Her vision went black.
All she heard were whispers.

“Oh have you seen Josslyn Silva?”

“Her father is a peasant! My oh my, what was were mother thinking?”

“The Silva genes are completely ruined now.”

“Making a change? Please. They’re only making a mess.”

“Have you seen Josslyn Silva? She’s beautiful! I cannot believe rumours are around telling how much of a rebellious child she is.”

“Steam magic and trap magic? Is she that weak she has to rely on peasant magic?”

“If she dies I’m sure the Silva family might be able to return to its true roots.”

“Gah. Not even one Silva feature. If you ask me she’s a Vermillion.”

“She’s not even worth one yule.”

“Josslyn should just give up already and join her grandparents.”

Two Silhouettes stood by a door frame, it was her great grandparents.

“Josslyn we’ve never asked for you to be birthed. It was an opportunity for Nebra to be selfish.”
The croaky voice came from her great grandmother. Both the silhouettes left the room.
A young Josslyn wearing a yellow dress, her face all swelled up from her great grandmothers stupid comment. Tears leaked down her cheeks as she sat on the cold floor hugging her knees.

Standing behind her younger self she crouched down to hug her from behind.

“Hey nice job kid, keep on pushing!!!”

That same voice came back to her. A yellow sheet had been blown into her face. Removing the yellow sheet off her face she saw the shoes of unfamiliar people. Immediately pulling her head up it was her grandma and grandpa. Zara Ideale and Acier Silva.

“Hey.” Both lifting a hand, Zara’s greeting a little more enthusiastic.

“Eeh did I die?!”

“Nah this just you in your unconscious state.” Zara replied calmly as he repeatedly slapped her shoulder. Acier had a small giggle to herself which Josslyn to switch her attention onto her.

“Josslyn when your in a difficult situation like this don’t jump for the easiest escape, your going to have to focus on all aspects and sometimes that motivation you get from people making you angry can lessen the chances of you being at complete control with all your abilities. As you did before looking at that mother and daughter you knew you had to have resilience and be present at the given moment.”

Zara launched an arm around Josslyn.
“Throughout that fight you showed guts! And we’re couldn’t be more proud, but Acier is right you gotta have some resilience and be present at the given moment or else you’re going to be too focused on winning the battle without even focusing on how to win the battle.”

Josslyn starred at Zara’s eyes. They did have the same eyes after all.
Zara returned standing at Acier’s side.

“Neither of us might’ve played a major role in your life and the hurdles you were forced to jump, sometimes you wouldn’t always jump over those hurdles and you wouldn’t recover from the injury it left you with. However if your still managing to run with all those injuries than your probably one of the bravest people I know.”

“Josslyn sure marking where you stand with people is alright, but when you constantly do it so you won’t let anybody hurt you, hurt it evens more. You’ve been hurt too many times to the point where you treat yourself less than a human because you believe your at fault for everything. When In reality you just weren’t brought up in a healthy matter, it’s like when I passed away my kids changed for the worse but looking at them now they achieve great feats and I’m nothing but the proudest mother in the world. Sometime. Josslyn. You need to get rid of that line and let people in because if you do so change will never come into your life.”

“We’re thankful you were born.”

Josslyn held both her hands on her chest. Seeing her grandparents transform into beads of light her cheeks red and her tears warm spilling down on her face standing proudly with a smile on her face. She was grateful that she could call them grandparents.

Turning her head around another yellow sheet got blown into her face again. Removing the sheet off she was facing her younger self hugging her knees still in tears.

Crouching infront of her this time she lightly touched her cheeks. Her younger herself looked up, her eyes red and puffy. So did hers.
Tilting her head she smiled, still crying,

“Please, continue to move fourth with your life.” She cleaned her younger self tears before she kissing her forehead, pulling back she witnessed as she smiled at older herself before being turned into beads of light.

Sakura like mana blossomed around her. The pressure in the room got flipped upside down. Big barb felt his pressure on her was growing weak. Magic circles created themselves surrounding them both in all sizes and colors. Once all formed and ready fire bursted within half and mercury arrows on the other. As the mercury arrows were thrown within the blaze, they left the blaze all liquid. With the amount of liquid being fired out it was impossible to dodge them all. Hot burning mercury splattered into his eyesight causing him to take let the pressure off Josslyn. Taking advantage she decided to do what she loves best.

Punching.

As soon as the magic circle dissolved she came in and did not hold back. She punched the mercury back into his eyes.
Landing on both feet she finally noticed her hair was down the entire time.

“Wait was my hair holding me back the entire time?!” She mumbled to herself.
Walking towards the fella she stood on his stomach. Big barb mumbled to himself in terror. Was this satan’s incarnate? He wondered.

“How about I explain to you dumb shits?”
She crossed her arms. “While dumb shit over there” Pointing to the shady guy who kidnapped the girls. “Dropped his scroll though in that scroll wasn’t a magic knight identification, it was actually a bunch of notes scribbled down and the location of the warehouse. Truth be told when he couldn’t find his scroll you weren’t bothered at all and I would know fake magic knight Identifications are hard to create. Not my first time seeing one. You blatantly called him a fool infront of anybody because you were frighten to say to his face when he was boasting about the two hostages. To understand how I managed to enter with only alarming one person I walked the area of the warehouse and placed magic circles on every inch on the outside. With simple trap spells, like binding traps you can sink them through the wall because the amount of mana you can pour in their are bounded to be leftover mana within those traps lurking somewhere. On how I got in here, I used a rather more complicated trap that required more mana out of me, that explains why I was doing fist to fist combat rather using my steam magic because it uses more mana. Climbing a ladder attached to the outside I hoped in without making a peep. While your dumb shit subordinate was having the time of his life I swiftly pulled another binding trap that would obviously bind his mouth first and the rest of his body last and you want to happens next. I dropped the scroll, I bet you guys up, I dodged all your punches, you punched me into the ground, had a moment where I met my grandparents, then took you down.”

Finishing the sentence off with a toothy grin underneath her mask.

“MMMMM HMMM MMMM.”
The outburst of muffles captivated Josslyn. She went from confident to mere surprise.
One last kick in the stomach she hopped off the baboon before attending aid to the mother and daughter.
Disconnecting the chains from the post she then carefully took her time ripping the duck tape off their mouths. The little girl threw herself onto Josslyn after she had finished ripping the duck tape off her mouth.

“Thank you miss! Thank you! Thank you!”

“Oh my Olive your manners!”

“Don’t worry about it ma’m, I’ve been cold all night so feeling some warmth doesn’t bother me at all.” She said as she prompt herself up while still holding Olive in her arms.

“Uh I’m glad? But anyways!!” She got onto her knees and bowed so far in her head was in tact with the concrete.

“Olive and I are forever in your debt, at first I did think you were some bad guy, but it’s like the saying goes never judge a book based on its cover.” Josslyn has sworn her cheek felt warmth. “P-P-Pardon my straightfowardness I think we never got a name.” The mother peered her head up to meet Josslyn’s mind eyes.

“Yeah we never got a name!”
Olive said turning to the sakura knight.

“OLIVE!! PLEASE.”

“Haha, no worries I won’t hurt you. My name is Zera, Zera Ideale.”

“Hm? Ideale? Are you in relation to the second daughter from house Silva’s husband?”
She asked, now sitting no longer in tact with the concerete.

“Not at all. We just share the last name that’s all we have in common.”

“Oh, well peasants did come up with their last names so it is likely people have the same last name without even being related to each other, I mean mine is Smith and I know plenty of Smiths but who aren’t related to me.”
Mrs Smith whispered under her breath in one go. Josslyn couldn’t understand how she said that in only one breath.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Standing on the Smith home porch Olive was out of Josslyn’s and back into her mothers where she cradled her in her arms as she slept peacefully.

“So what are you going to do with those drugs those smugglers we’re going to import?”

“Probably head to the royal capitol and report it to magic knight hq, they’re going to have a field trip I bet.”

“Hahaha, but are you going to be sad when they’re going to be given all the credit?”

“To be honest I don’t really care if I get given credit or not, all that matters is that I prevented a horrible future for you and your daughter.”
Mentioning to what that shady guy said to them earlier made Mrs Smith cradle Olive even more tighter.

“Thank you Zera, you really are a blessing and if you ever need somebody to open their doors, our doors will always be open for you.”

“Thats really generous of you Mrs Smith. I’ll take that into consideration.”

“Again thank you but I need tuck this little one into bed, safe travels!” Josslyn got off the porch and waved her goodbyes to Mrs Smith and Olive.

Walking midst the moonlight’s waltz, she bounced over every puddle, and hummed to herself about her rather exciting night she had as a vigilante. That was one of the pros. One of the cons was that she’ll never cross paths with any of the people she previously saved. But to her, as long as she sees other people have their happy endings it doesn’t if she’ll ever get hers.

On the Smiths residence’s rooftop a pacific awesome masked guy rested both hands on his nape, his toothy grin was very clear to see.

“That’s my baby girl.”
Standing where the moonlight shined behind her.

At daytime she is known as Josslyn Silva

But during the nighttime she is Zera Ideale.
