Chapter Text
Linda stepped out of her office and checked to see if they were still waiting before saying, “Okay, Detectives, I'll see you now.”
Chloe thanked her and Lucifer puffed up a bit. “Oh. ‘Detectives’.” He liked the sound of that.
“Dr. Martin, I'd like to ask you a few questions about Delilah,” Chloe started.
Lucifer knew there weren’t gong to be too many answers at the moment with the way Linda was looking at him. “You're thinking about it, aren't you?” he asked smugly.
“What?” Linda snapped out of it.
“Yes, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm like walking heroin. Very habit-forming. It never ends well,” Lucifer informed her honestly. She was very much not like the usual women that ended up in his bed and the fact that she hadn’t actually done anything yet was just proof of that. She was actually trying to fight it.
Linda just sighed wistfully as Chloe found herself getting confused. “I'm sorry, do... do you two know each other?”
“No, no, but I know that look,” Lucifer said with a smirk.
“I don't know what you're talking about,” Linda shook it off impressing Lucifer quite a bit.
“That is interesting 'cause... you don't look at me that way,” Lucifer told Chloe with his own confusion. He was getting more and more convinced that something was strange with her. Something that could be very bad for him.
“What way?” Chloe asked wearily.
“With carnal fascination.”
“That's 'cause it doesn't exist,” Chloe said pointedly wondering how arrogant a person could possibly be. Surely there was a limit somewhere.
“No, you see, that's just it... with most women, it does. I tend to appeal to the dark, mischievous hearts in all of you, but you, Detective, you seem oddly immune to my charms,” Lucifer continued trying to figure her out, forgetting for a moment about the case.
“Referring to them as "charms," I think, is a bit of a stretch. Truth be told, I find you repulsive. Like, on a chemical level,” Chloe said seriously.
“That's fascinating,” he said in confused awe before getting his head back in the game. “Now, tell me, Linda...”
Linda cut him off though as she managed to cut through the fog in her head long enough to notice something. “You say it's fascinating, and yet I can see that it disturbs you, doesn't it? Deeply,” she had to point out. Lucifer found himself scrutinizing the doctor just as much as he had been the detective now. How had she been able to see through him so easily? He was famous for not letting on any more than he wanted to. That and the fact that he had been directly focused on her during that statement and she was able to push through the reaction to his aura for it.
Chloe had no interest in psychoanalyzing Lucifer. She just wanted to get this case over with. “Dr. Martin, we know that, um, Delilah was having a clandestine affair with a wealthy married man, so if you just tell us his name, we will be on our way.”
“I'm sorry, I can't do that,” Linda said with a shake of her head.
“Oh, she's one of the complex ones,” Lucifer said with a smirk. People with strong morals were few and far between and normally he would just let it go, but in this case he couldn’t. They had to find Delilah’s killer.
“Linda, darling, why don't you tell me? Hmm?” he cranked his aura up another notch.
“Well, I can't,” she shook her head again, pulling a chuckle from Lucifer even as he cranked it up some more. And then more. And then more. He was starting to wonder if there was a limit on how strong he could make it. He’d never had occasion to find out. He just hoped she cracked before it got that far. Finally he could see her faltering. “Oh, you're the devil.”
Lucifer grinned at her as he said, “Correct. Now, come on, Dr. Martin. I know you want to.”
“Oh, man, and it's really, really juicy, too,” Linda said still trying to resist the urge to break her oaths.
“Ooh, I bet it is,” Lucifer said focusing his aura more tightly.
“No, I can't,” she shook her head again, trying to clear it.
“What did you do to her? Did you roofie her?” Chloe asked incredulously.
“Oh, no, it's not her fault. She's just reacting to me. Just watch and learn, okay? Right, the answer is yes, we can take a trip to pound town if we must, but first, you're gonna have to tell us, Linda, okay?” He pulled out the big guns and cranked his aura up even more, actually straining a bit to hold it now.
Linda couldn’t help the moan that pulled from her throat as she felt her resolve weakening. She still tried to fight it though. “Um...Okay...it's Grey Cooper,” she felt the pressure ease as soon as the name came from her lips.
“Grey Cooper? Seriously? That is juicy,” Chloe said in surprise.
“Grey Cooper, the actor? The one who's married to Amanda what's-her-chops?” Luicfer said horrified. “Oh, no, he's horrible. So square-jawed, so handsome, so vanilla. Oh, I'm really quite disappointed in Delilah. That's truly terrible taste in the opposite sex.”
Chloe started to say something to Lucifer but decided it wasn’t worth it and just wanted to get this case over with and away from him once and for all. “Thank you very much, Dr. Martin. We'll be in touch. All right, we got to go,” she got up and started to leave.
Lucifer grabbed her arm before she got far, and told her, “Yes, of course, but I...I made a deal, so I'm gonna have to hold up my end of the bargain. You wouldn't mind waiting outside?”
“Are you seriously talking about having sex with her right now?” Chloe asked incredulously.
“Well, it won't take long,” Lucifer told her, only planning to keep it quick since finding Delilah’s killer was more important than sating his lust at the moment.
“I do yoga. Hot... yoga. I'm freakishly flexible,” Linda added, and Lucifer found himself wavering on his idea of keeping it quick. “Want to see? Wow! I really tried to keep that one in,” Linda said with a nervous chuckle, still trying to fight the aura.
Lucifer realized he was still cranked up to max and didn’t blame her at all. Heck he wouldn’t have blamed her if he just had his normal aura going. That was enough for most people. “Well, you tried... that's what matters,” Lucifer told her before coming to a decision. He would come back to this one when he had more time to play. “Uh, look, I'm really sorry, but I'm gonna have to take a rain check. I will be back, okay?” he promised.
“I certainly hope so,” Linda said breathlessly.
Lucifer stopped and smiled at her. “My word is my bond.” As they left, Lucifer couldn’t get his mind off the doctor even as they continued working the case. The detective was freakishly immune. That wasn’t anything she did though as much as it confounded him. The doctor however…she was clearly affected but was strong enough to fight it. That was just as special.
Once the case was over and he saved the detective’s life, he went back to his club to drink and think things over only to be confronted by Mazikeen who accused him of being different. Of letting the humans rub off on him. Of…caring. He couldn’t help but wonder if he was right and that sent his thoughts right back to the doctor. Perhaps he could get something of his own out of her. He did have his end of the bargain to live up to anyway.
He made his way to her office and knocked on the door. Once she opened it, he could see that she was still fighting his aura and was even more sure about this. She had seen right through him once before when he was focusing it tightly on her. He might have to see if he could tone it down more than the normal level though to get as much clarity as he needed, but that would take some experimentation. For now… “Okay. Right. Uh...Here's the deal. We can have as much naked cuddle time as you desire, but... you're gonna have to listen to me, too. There's a few things that I'd like to discuss with you. You know, just a... an existential dilemma or two. Deal?” Lucifer asked hopefully.
“Yes,” Linda easily agreed. She would never turn down a patient anyway, but she was even less likely to turn down this one.
“Lovely,” Lucifer smirked as he walked inside the office and she closed the door behind them. Lucifer was surprised to find that even though she was much less…practiced…than his usual partners, he found himself enjoying it even more than usual. Perhaps because she, while still affected, wasn’t nearly as much so as his normal partners. That and she was freakishly flexible. That could definitely have had something to do with it.
