Work Text:

“Is there anything else you want to see while we’re here?” Tony asked, casting a glance at Steve. The two of them were strolling down the walkway next to the river, holding hands and sightseeing as the sun was setting on the river. They had just finished dinner not too long ago, but it was a bit too early to retire for the night.

“Whatever you’d like,” Steve replied with a shrug.

“This is your first time in the Highlands,” Tony said.

“Come on, there must be something you want to do,” Tony pressed. “How about we go get you sized for a kilt? I bet you’ll look handsome in one.” He gave Steve a suggestive look.

“It doesn’t matter,” Steve replied again.

Tony came to a full stop and turned to face him. “Okay, Steve, what’s going on? You’ve been grumbly all afternoon. We’re on vacation! We should be enjoying ourselves.”

Steve took a deep breath. “Sorry, it’s just this blistering heat is driving me crazy.” He looked at Tony and frowned. “It’s making me irritable; I’m sorry.”

Tony frowned. “Steve, don’t apologise. I’m sorry, we can definitely head inside to do something instead.”

“The sunset is beautiful,” Steve murmured. “Would be a very romantic walk if I wasn’t dripping in sweat.”

“You still look sexy,” Tony offered.

Steve smirked at him. “You always think I look sexy.”

“Guilty,” Tony said with a shrug. Looking at Steve, he licked his lips. “Want to do something crazy?”

“Crazy?”

“Yeah.”

Steve looked at him warily. “How crazy are we talking?”

“I mean, you know me… Nothing should surprise you.” Tony was wearing a smirk, giving himself away.

Steve hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Okay, what are you thinking?”

“That river looks mighty refreshing, doesn’t it?”

Steve looked at the River Ness. “Thinking about taking a dip?”

“I’m game if you’re game,” Tony said.

Steve licked his lips. “Honestly, a swim sounds pretty good, but we can just head back to the hotel and swim there.”

“Yeah, but where’s the fun in that?”

“I feel like we’re not supposed to swim in the river,” Steve murmured, looking down at the water. When he looked back at Tony, his eyes widened in surprise when he saw that Tony was unbuttoning his shirt. “Uhhh… What are you doing?”

Tony grinned. “Getting naked, of course. I don’t want to get my clothes wet.”

“Tony,” Steve hissed, moving closer. “You just can’t get naked in public. We’re going to get in trouble!”

Tony laughed as he removed his shirt and started working on his shorts. “I’m Tony Stark, love; I can do whatever I want.”

“We’re going to get in trouble,” Steve said, shaking his head.

“Come on, don’t let me get naked alone,” Tony said, pouting as he looked at Steve. “Come on, it’ll be fun. The river is right there, we’ll be in and out.”

“Fine,” Steve said, moving his fingers to the hem of his shirt and pulling it over his head. When his shirt was off, he looked at Tony and saw that he was completely naked. Pausing, Steve took a moment to look over the sight of his lover naked. Licking his lips, he grinned.

“Come on,” Tony said, grinning. “I can lend a hand if you need help getting undressed.”

“Don’t. You’ll make me hard, and that’s one thing I don’t want to happen right now if we’re skinny dipping.” Shimmying out of the rest of his clothes, Steve bit his lower lip nervously.

“I can’t believe you did it,” Tony murmured in awe.

“You should know I never back down from a challenge.” He moved closer to Tony, his nerves starting to get the better of him. “Tony, I-”

Tony took Steve’s hand, and it gave a squeeze, cutting him off. When Steve met his gaze, he grinned. “Shall we?”

“One, two, thr-”

Before Steve could finish the countdown, Tony had pulled him into a heated kiss that made his body warm in a different way. He groaned, kissing Tony back, cupping Tony’s cheeks.

Eventually, they broke apart. Tony wore his trademark smirk.

Steve gave him a questioning look. “Come on, we’re supposed to be jumping into the river.”

Tony laughed. “Well, I saw a more tempting view.” Taking Steve’s hand, he pulled him in for another smouldering kiss. Their naked bodies pressed against each other as the kiss grew more passionate.

It was moments like these that Steve was grateful for Tony. He always knew how to put a smile on his face, even when he was grumpy and grouchy.

"Okay," Tony said, grinning as he pulled away. "Let’s take this jump… are you ready for it?”
Steve laughed. "Always.”

Gripping hands tightly, the two of them jumped into the Ness River. The cold water splashed over them both, instantly chilling them.

Letting go of Tony, Steve swam towards the surface. He laughed as he broke through, turning to smile at Tony.

“It’s so cold!” Tony said, laughing. “I was not expecting that.”

“But refreshing,” Steve countered, swimming closer. He pressed a quick kiss to Tony’s lips before pulling away and grinning. “Want to race?”

“You’ll beat me like you always do, old man,” Tony teased.

Laughing, Steve chuckled. “You’re just afraid you’ll lose.”

“If it involves physical activity, you always outperform,” Tony said, wiggling his brows suggestively.

Chuckling, Steve opened his mouth to say something but was abruptly cut off.

“Hey! You two! Get out there!”

Looking up onto the riverbank, Steve and Tony laughed when they saw a police officer yelling down at them.

“We’re just swimming!” Steve yelled up, his heart racing from the thrill of being caught.

“Swimming in the River Ness is against the law, as is public nudity!”

“Do you know who we are!” Tony shouted.

“Doesn’t matter. You’re both going to be under arrest if you don’t get out right this instant. As of right now, you’ll be getting a hefty fine!”

Laughing, Tony swam towards Steve. Brushing his lips against Steve’s, he murmured, “Worth it.”
