Work Text:
The envelope in Richie’s hand makes crinkling noises as it is opened. Thin fingers then reach in to grab the paper inside, pulling it out. It's the power bill for this month. Richie turns to head farther into the one bedroom apartment, bopping to a song in his head as he walks a few feet to the living room.
"We've got bills," he says to Eddie, who is sitting on their thrifted couch. Richie settles next to him before handing the one envelope over with a couple of others.
Eddie hums in answer as he takes the mail. "Anything good in here?" he asks, thumbing through the envelopes. He answers his own question when he pulls out an envelope addressed to both of them in Stanley Uris’s handwriting.
Richie and Eddie look at each other and smile.
Stan and Patty often sent letters from wherever they went with Mike. They were always full of interesting details about the place they were at, the things that they were doing and anything else that they managed to think of.
Both Richie and Eddie loved getting these letters from their friends. Not to mention the missions they also sometimes sent with the letters.
Eddie turns over the envelope, rips open the back, and pulls out the papers to read. It’s fairly lengthy this time, measuring almost three pages front to back along with a few pictures to go with it.
“Where are they now?” Richie asks, leaning in a bit more to read it with his partner.
“Florida.“
Richie nods to himself. “ Nice choice.” Just as he says this, a smaller piece of paper falls from between the others. Richie picks it up. “Seems like they have a job for us, too. And it’s right here in Chicago.”
“Who is it?” Eddie asks, looking up from the letter.
“A Timothy Lees,” Richie reads before looking up at Eddie. “You up for it?”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “Obviously.” Then he’s standing up and heading towards their room for their gear. When he comes back out, Richie is standing up. Stan’s letter is now in his hand.
“Suit up,” Eddie says, gesturing to the items in his hands. Richie smiles and takes them.
It was time to do the dirty work.
“Hey!”
Richie and Eddie look at each other and grin. This was the fun part.
Eddie takes the lead as they get farther and farther away from both the old house and the creek they had previously been at. This makes him thankful that he made daily runs while they weren’t working. Richie lags behind a little, but still keeps up as they try to shake the people chasing them.
“You!”
The voice is farther away, but both of them continue running as Richie laughs breathlessly.
“I can’t believe it was that easy,” he continues. Eddie laughs with him this time.
“Yeah, it really was so easy to get that guy,” Eddie says and Richie can’t help but blush at the amount of joy on his partner’s face. He’d save a picture if he could take one.
But for now, he concentrates on running.
